  1. No. Gibson sells guitars to distributors who warehouse their own inventories. rct
  2. Once the guitar leaves their shipping dock it is no longer theirs. They don't care enough about the serial numbers of their guitars to not have the myriad problems there are with Gibson serial numbers, so I sincerely doubt they would have any interest in updating information about guitars they don't own. Gibson serial numbers are among the most difficult to wrangle, they are proof positive that serial numbers don't mean a thing. rct
  3. Of course you say that, neither of us will be here. We had our time. It was great. Let them have theirs. rct
  4. Of course it can, and of course it will. Modern music wasn't made for a bunch of geriatric Gibson forumites, just as The Beatles weren't made for a bunch of filthy bearded hipster millennial gen x y z kids all grown up in the year 2050, enjoying the music of their youth. rct
  5. The Shawbuckers they put in Fenders are just meh humbuckers. Seymour Duncan for certain, probably a slew of other makers will get you what you want. You just have to decide. I'll suggest Pearly Gates and Saturday Night Specials from Duncan. Better yet, have them wind you a pair of early 80's Gibson stock Shaws. I am sure they will do it right and it is well worth the money and the wait. rct
  6. Wow that is specific. Can't help you, just got back from there but was busy riding rides and eating. rct
  7. I have a Shaw single in my Esquire. That is a great pickup. I've had Shaw humbuckers in other Fedners, none of them all that great. My memory of the 80's was "Nothing Stock", nobody kept the stockers in anything, Dimarzio, Mighty Mite, and the beginnings of Seymour being available everywhere. So I don't recall anything spectacular about 80's Les Paul pickups. Certainly none of my 80's Les Pauls sounded great, and a couple were real bricks. rct
  8. He had PAFs in his Goldtop, and took them out of the Goldtop and put them in the sunburst. The SG was Dickeys, he gave it to Duane when Dickey went to Les Pauls, the SG had stockers in it, Dickey went all Seymour Duncan much later. Tone? Dickey on One Way Out and Stormy Monday. Them right there is some Filmore tone to be chasing. When we hung out at his bus in South Philly I asked Forest how he got that One Way Out and what was he thinking? He was thinking nothing and the sound just was one of them nights. "Jesus Christ that was some good stuff wudn it?" Yes sir, it was. In '99 or so they did like 7 nights at the Tower in Philly and I went to them all. He knocked off the Stormy Monday solo almost exactly, one of the very few times I ever saw them do that one. It was awesome. rct
  9. You would be amazed to see all of the things I can't get from Italy. Like, books worth of things that I can't get from Italy because I'm in America. rct
  10. Borgata in Atlantic City is pretty messed up still. Good thing we are eating elsewhere this weekend. rct
  11. We thought we had a good handful or two of Van Gogh at Philly but MAN we saw a bunch of good ones at the Detroit Institute of Art last week. rct
  12. I would never google "dutchburst". rct
  13. It's a delightful 50 degrees tonight in Yellowstone. Wonderful. rct
  14. You can call it whatever you want, there is no grading standard for tops. rct
  15. People who make money making music trying to make money making music. What is this world coming to? rct
  16. The fans will sit through anything to get to the hits, that's how fans are. Shoulda kept Robin. rct
  17. I haven't and wouldn't shim a nut. New nut, I'll explain it to the customer later. rct
  18. Capo the first fret, press the low E down at the last full fret. Should be .010" between top of 8th fret and bottom of low E string. Capo off, 4/64" from the top of the 17th fret to the bottom of each string, close enough to follow the radius, that's how and where you set string height. Intonate it. It should play well all over the neck after you do these things. It should be well intonated after you do these things. If it isn't, you own a partscaster, so anything you have to do is just throwing good money after decent money. 99.98 out of 100 guitars, probably considerably more, don't have nickels under the saddles. This isn't a "normal" situation that needs a little compensation. Good luck with it. rct
  19. Another Fishman LoudBox user. I recommend them. rct
  20. Yeah, but Nita Strauss has also done some pretty good stuff with Demi Lovato these last couple years. That and the fact that Nita doesn't use amps of any kind live or in the studio, so no tube cred for her, should help re-invigorate the hate! rct
  21. Many of us are of a time when there was no "guitar culture". We weren't staring at our phones all day, browsing our tablets, surfing our laptops all night. We didn't consume all possible internet knowledge every day. We played the guitar, most of us in bands, most of us trying to make a living at it and in my case failing and having to keep a job. But out every weekend with a guitar if possible. It's not the same as owning guitars and blabbing about them all day on the internet, so it is quite possible and normal for lots of guitar players of a certain generation to not have heard of lots of other guitar players. rct
