  1. Finally had a thunderstorm. It cleared the air! But the brief rainstorm was crazy. It didnt just fall, it somehow blasted down from the sky. I heard somebody yelling outside; it was a council working fixing a streetlamp. I dont know if it was terror, frustration or anger. It might have been pain? He was being pressure washed after all. Eventually he got under a tree. Even my (usually bulletproof) full wet weather gear would not have coped with that. Maybe a 1 atmosphere diving suit? Anyway, its over now. The streetlamp is fixed and the sun is shining again.
  2. Nice one GG 👌👍 Theres a pattern forming here (all this childhood guitar lust being addressed). You must have wanted at least 200 different guitars as a kid 😉
  3. Scottie.... beam him up ....now would be a good time
  4. Its easer to use the conversion factor (25.4) mentioned by mihcmac. A piece of paper is usually .004" inch (eg: newspaper) for .3mm = .012" for .5mm = .019"
  5. Oh... Its a weed whacker !? I thought you called it a weed hacker. I obviously misheard Hammy in 'Over The Hedge'.
  6. Great, -though cant see video. Maybe try a hosting site?
  7. Must be, yes. The shaft is mahogany. The handle grip is period correct plastic, and its finished in nitrocellulose. Otherwise it would be entirely silent.
  8. Congrats GG. Another hole in your collection plugged! 😉
  9. Wow, really nice trio Fran 👌 PS Hope the strings are still holding up on the CS !
  10. There’s one thing I’m pretty certain of. If I only had a cheap guitar and had no experience of a high end one, I would assume that they would be better than they generally are. Like jdgm and his Vintage, I have a (MIC) Hagstrom which sounds like a proper LP. The pickups are stock but clearly modelled on 57 Classics (Hagstrom call theirs 58 Classics). The only mods to it are wiring/pots/switch/OP jack. AAMOF, it sounds more like a LP* than my LP does through the new practice amp! *=authentic Guitarists always respond to the Gibson LP (though not the ES-339 for some reason) and never to the Hagstrom or Squier. But to be honest, I am more appreciative when non-musicians complement me/us, because they have appreciated the music regardless of the tools we used to make it.
  11. The Dancer With Bruised Knees : Kate & Anna McGarrigle
  12. Miles Runs the Voodoo Down - Miles Davis
  13. cant you remove the cap & re-allign it where you prefer?
  14. Ok, so cant see photo, but shiny spots on satin finishes are common (maybe inevitable) especially where the picking hand rests. If so, it shouldn't be any cause for concern.
  15. This puts me in mind of those blindfold tests Anderton's do. A bunch of (8 or so) Strats or LPs. Play 'em first and find out what they are after. It might at least remove any brand bias.
  16. Well dont keep it to yourself too long... 😉
  17. Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
  18. Lets use a random letter & number generator to make a code. Give it to Gibson Custom Shop & see what they make?
  19. Very nice! Need one of these to complete it...
  20. It looks like something form my childhood....
  21. No, thats authentic. Halfway through there was definately a bit of American turf still clinging to the blind side.
  22. The new Shovelle Excavator iii It's cutting edge tech.
  23. I play in a 7 piece band, but I am the only guitarist. That helps a lot. In fact its been that way for most of the bands I worked with. I'm aware that I occupy the same range as the keys so I turn down extra low when he plays a solo. I played a beer festival once and a band came on before us and they had 3 guitarists (not including bass) and a rack of guitars as well. Two of them were playing cowboy chords with gain. One of them should have been playing clean. The 3rd played barre chords. It was ok but they hadn't thought it through.
  24. If we are speaking of working guitars, its simple enough to me. 1/ If I buy a Gibson or Rickenbacker, its fit to gig. 2/ If it’s cheap, it nearly always needs replacement electrics. Sometimes even some hardware. Once the cheap guitar is upgraded, it can be relied upon as much as the High end models. It is now of equal status in my head. I don’t much care what name is on the headstock unless posing for photos. Then I will usually grab a USA guitar. If I have a critical gig, recording session or audition, I will grab the Korean PRS SE Custom 24. It’s cheap and I hate the look of it, but it’s the best tool for the job. Public perception is something else. Most people don’t know or care what you use. But when I play the Les Paul out, I get players coming over wanting to speak about it at the end of the gig. I act polite & pleasant, but at that point I just want to pack up & get out of there, so I don’t play the LP out much now. Obviously any guitar has to be ‘good’ to start with. That goes for both High End and cheap guitars. Its also pointless trying to upgrade a pig. But I do love finding a cheap guitar that punches above its weight.
