  1. Since the Les Paul (then) sold so poorly. I think the perception was that it looked old & pedestrian. The Les Paul design was essentially the same 'look' that Gibson had produced for decades. The SG had a (perceived) more modern & sexier look about it.
  2. Welcome to the forum BF. kidblast answered with aplomb. I agree completely. I'd like to see your guitar too when you get it (you might want to use a 3rd party pic hosting site though?) ATB ME
  3. Here's a question. 'I think' the moisture content of wood is essentially water. Reasoning that the job of the wood is to convey water. When adding oil to a fingerboard, the cell structure will absorb the oil as if its water. (If I'm right so far) What happens when the oil meets the water? Does the oil displace the water, or can it emulsify somehow?
  4. I'm tired of thinking of excuses for not doing stuff that I need to do. If I was was rich I'd throw some money at those jobs. I'm not rich. Not being rich is today's excuse. That was tiring...
  5. I've been slowly coming around to this way of thinking too. I do have a couple of guitars that are too finely adjusted. They happen to be the ones I have fret leveled. The other thing I find when I return to a guitar that I haven't used for a while is they can detune. Sometimes by as much as a full semitone. Often when this happens the guitar is fully in tune with itself, so the strings have lost tension uniformly.
  6. hey! That's terrific. I can only grow brambles & ivy. I managed a few onions last year and about a 1/4 of the garlic I planted. Tried tomatoes and they wouldn't ripen. Haven't even tried this year. I couldn't grow anything if my life depended on it.
  7. 🙂 I have to use something like that for quick alternating picking. It has to have points and it mustn't flex. If it wasn't for that one technique I'd still be using Gibson black picks with a bit of give in them. In fact I do still use them for rhythm playing.
  8. Line 6 POD HD400 Any clean amp fingers or V Pick Psycho
  9. I tried to get into Phish, and persevered for the longest time. There are plenty of bands that want that special - improv - uniqueness. The whole so called Jam Band thing is really down to the Dead's example. Another band that modeled themselves on this is String Cheese Incident. Now them I do like, and its great music, but doesn't travel beyond that.
  10. Well I hope its all positive for him too 🙂
  11. Yes useful tip 👍. Thats a problem with used gear. You cant know all the abuse its received. Naptha is useful stuff. I got some shortly after buying a Gibson.
  12. Well, I think they sound different. Not everyone agrees of course. I prefer the sound of an LP, but like the looks of SGs better.
  13. I hate having to adjust guitars (it's laziness). Nowadays I often leave a neck that has 'moved' for a few days because sometimes it will restore itself. Its one of the reasons why I would like a quality non-wood guitar. I got rid of a Epiphone Casino Coupe just because the d@mn thing wouldn't keep still. Every other time I picked it up it had moved.
  14. The leaving it outdoors idea is good. Obviously not in direct sunlight or any extreme conditions. I suggest cleaning it carefully too. I had this problem with an old (electric) guitar I bought on ebay. It reeked. I disassembled it, scrubbed it, scoured it. I used soap, all sorts of commercial cleansers and also vinegar. I did all this for an entire year. Finally, leaving it out in the garden for a few hours a day did the trick.
  15. I wouldn't give it house room it they gave it to me. I suppose you have to be into... y'know... thingy!
  16. Just for the record. I agree with you & feel the same way about it.
  17. Sounds great! Nice job with video too. Congrats on the LP Studio.
