  1. Looking good Rabs - looking forward to seeing that spalted london plane finished up. What type of finish will you put on it?
  2. We got a little salt water swimming pool last year. I've been super cautious about making sure I'm dry / changed out of my bathing suit before picking up the J45 to make sure I don't cause any issues with the finish.... but this gets to be a drag on those long hot days lounging by the pool. Am I being over cautious or just doing what I should to avoid damaging the finish on the guitar? Thanks all for any input.
  3. A few of my favorites: Count my blessings: RWH Rosemary: Sierra Ferrell I am the walrus: Beatles
  4. I got my J45 about 3 years ago, had a Guild D25 for the 20 yrs prior and loved it... but after a couple of years of playing the J45 and really starting to appreciate it, the D25 just feels lifeless. Was never sure i'd develop an ear for the differences, but there it is. Grabbing the Gibson makes me want to play more, grabbing the D25 makes me want to grab the J45. 'There's life in that J45 I say I say!' Guess I'd probably feel that way about many of the nicer guitars out there, but the one I have is my J45 and I'm digging it. Just thinking out loud....
  5. cool little trick, with a little bit of pete seeger in the background - what did you learn in school today, what did you learn in school...
  6. I believe volume and cutting through are two different things. To cut through, i feel your best bet is to have a different sound - if you're playing with a couple other hog guitars, maybe go maple... or said by someone above, switch instruments altogether try a banjo or mandolin.
  7. Pretty funny FYP... similar but not the same, my father was saying 'geeze i think the snow looks really white this year, do you think everyone staying home from COVID cleaned up enough pollution to do that?' After thinking for a second, i replied back, 'maybe, but I'd be willing to be it was your cataract surgery that made the difference'.
  8. I'm confident in my playing with respect to being an open mic hero, but not confident in my singing - so at the ripe old age of over the hill, i'm starting lessons tomorrow. Coolest thing about it is the guy i'm taking lessons from has the exact same name as me. Seriously though, hoping a few pointers to help make sure i'm on the right track will get me started, then next step will be looking to hook up with another person or two to play.
  9. Logging on issues have kept me from posting of late - but low and behold today it worked and happily able to leave a comment. Really good job Roger - I do appreciate your style, love all your postings!
  10. I stay logged in now, instead of having to reset my PW everytime. I like the new forum.
  11. very cool, enjoy, still be safe... does the dynamic of limited people sitting at tables vs crowding the floor change your set list? Just thinking out loud - I'd probably try to make them all look like the guy from that old speaker commercial where it looks like sound is blowing everything backward. Then lull them off the edge with a rock ballard.... then back on the edge. Wow, it's cool to hear you have a gig! 'luck
  12. Looking sweet. Looking forward to the next round of pics. Keep trying to pick the one I like best, and everytime I see a new pic, I change my mind - good stuff.
  13. I'd like to see a lot more contests where the likelyhood I win a new LP is very high.
  14. Super cool - Rock on... literally, ROCK ON! Looking forward to much more of this to come.
  15. As said to your monel strings thread, I look forward to hearing what you come up with.
  16. Looking forward to hearing your lo-fi output Jinder. Scaled back music, you the guitar with that old time sound - I got to believe there'll be some magic in there 🙂 Hope your health continues to improve and we get to hear some output sometime. Any chance you'd ever team up with a fiddle player for a song or two?
  17. I searched double strumming on you tube, and a bunch of different things came up but none on topic. Maybe you should do a video 🙂 FYI - I did slow the video down and do a lot of hardcore studying and think I've at least got something similar. Seems like alternate picking on the root note and next string down between strums... done fast, done well, and very cool. Well said, thought the same thing, a '20s sound, mesmerizing IMO TY
  18. Thank you Nick, I'll check out the Dylan song. .. maybe a little bit slower is what I need to figure it out. Out of curiosity, with the pickguard outgassing like that, would you suggest replacing it, or what would you do. Rgds - UF
  19. There's an issue with my login where I have to reset my PW every time I log in, so I've only been lurking, but came across this, wanted to share, but also had a question. The song is Rosemary by Sierra Ferrell, She's playing what looks to be a very old slope J of sorts, cool guitar so wanted to share. My question - Right at 1:04 she goes into a fast bit of strumming with a little bit of picking. Is this a common strumming style and does it have a name (I'd like to try and learn it)... kind of makes me think of bonanza. Thanks for any input. Not a huge fan of the nose ring... but ooooh, what a voice.
  20. A thing of beauty. Out of curiosity, why would you continue to struggle w/ a guitar instead of finding one you mesh with? With your collection I gotta believe there's an LP or two in there you've made nice with?
