jspt46 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Hello everyone! I ordered a new J45 Acoustic from Guitar Center and it was shipped to my house. It arrived today in a Gibson factory box. It and removed the guitar from the hard shell case. I heard something banging around inside the body as I moved the guitar around. I tilted it enough to see a small black box dangling from a black insulated wire inside the sound hole. I'm assuming it's something to do with the electronics inside the body.. Anybody else had this issue? I'm wondering if I should take it to GC or contact Gibson being that it's only two hours old. lol. Thanks guys! Quote
dhanners623 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 How big is the “black box”? Is it the battery pack? If so, they’re held in with Velcro. If not, I don’t have a clue and, yeah, it shouldn’t be banging around in there. If you’ve got a GC close by, head on over. A photo might help us here…. Quote
rbpicker Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Is there a piece of Velcro on the neck block, and another piece on the little bag? If so, just stick them together and play your new guitar. Probably got shaken loose during shipment. rb Quote

Hopefully it was just the battery bag that had come loose. Congrats on the NGD, and remember- pics of the new J-45, or it didn't happen! Edited August 26, 2023 by 62burst Quote
Larsongs Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 It’s usually a good idea to let your newly delivered Guitar sit overnight in the Box so it acclimate itself to Temperature and Humidity from its trip traveling to get to you.. I wouldn’t tell GC it was 2 hours old when you opened the box.. What’s wrong with your Guitar probably has nothing to do with my statement above.. Just an FYI to help cover you.. Quote
jspt46 Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 Thanks to you all. It is in fact the battery holder that has both sides of the velcro attached. I was able to figure out all I needed to know by watching several youtube vids and even how to re-secure it with new industrial strength velcro. Thank you all very much for the responses! https://photos.app.goo.gl/XZocVD41Xxrme7PN6 1 Quote
egoidealmusic Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 More pics than the errant battery pack! We love seeing a new beaut. Quote

Here are some Pics to compare the inside of the Soundhole & how it should look.. Hope it didn’t damage anything while rattling around during shipping. Edited August 27, 2023 by Gibson29 Quote
fortyearspickn Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 It is possible that jspt46 installed the battery holder in that location, and not Gibson. It is unlikely that the Cordura fabric pouch would rattle, let alone cause damage. Quote

As long as it works, he likes it & doesn’t cause future problems.. Edited August 27, 2023 by Larsongs Quote
gearbasher Posted August 28, 2023 Posted August 28, 2023 I don't think the picture is showing where it's installed. It's showing where it ended up after coming loose. You can see the velcro loop side strip on the right side of the photo. Hopefully he got it back on the velcro "hooks" which is probably still attached to the neck block. It they just ship it without the battery installed that would never happen. Quote

Hi! the whole battery pack fell off on my j45. can you show me how it is attached in the neck block? can you send a pic? thank you Quote
slimt Posted February 15 Posted February 15 They are held on with a velcro strip. I have a J45 and a j185 where the velcro strips fell off the neck blocks . Not sure of the adhesive used. But it did not stick. Quote
Sgt. Pepper Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) Both Velcro pieces may be stuck together on the "Black Box" when the guitar got bumped around during shipping. There should be at least some sign of sticky residue where it was first placed in the guitar. Edited February 15 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
Murph Posted February 19 Posted February 19 My old J-45 has a metal spring clip dealy bob. The newer J-15 has a nylon pouch thingamajig. Quote

Medford Guitar Posted October 14 Posted October 14 The velcro on my J-45 kept coming off at the neck heel. I ended up replacing that piece with a piece of velcro I use for my pedal board. Did the trick. Quote
DanvillRob Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I've found that the "Peel & Stick" on the Velcro doesn't hold up well on the porous wood inside the guitar.. I had a K&K Trinity pickup & mic installed in my J-50.... the Velcro stuck together, but the peel & stick gave way, so the mic was loose. I cut a small piece of double sided foam tape, stuck it inside the guitar.... then stuck the Velcro peel & stuck to it...and it's been solid for years now. I'm just about to take my old Dove in to have the K&K Trinity set-up installed on it too....I'll take some double-sided foam tape to my luthier when he does the work. Quote
fortyearspickn Posted October 16 Posted October 16 FWIW - it helps to wipe off wood with a damp rag to remove sawdust - the fine powdery residue you can't see. And, if an old guitar, to remove regular house dust. 1 Quote
Sgt. Pepper Posted October 16 Posted October 16 (edited) A couple of wood screws and tie wraps wound do the trick. Edited October 16 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
