There are countless guitarists that I admire and am a big fan of. But by "influence" I think of players that affected the way I play guitar. In somewhat chronological order since I first started playing:

Randy Rhoads

Jimmy Page

SRV

Dickey Betts

George Harrison

Neal Young

Billy Joe Armstrong (yes that's right!)

I'm sure I missed a few

I had just started playing guitar after 6 years of Piano lessons and was on

my way home from Tuesday night church school and I stopped by the theater

a friend worked at it was half way through the show so he let me in for free.

The movie was Woodstock and when I sat down Alvin Lee and Ten Years After

played I'm Going Home. The rest of the week I showed up at the same time

and watched it again and again. Took the acoustic in and traded it in on my

first electric an Airline 3 pickup wonder. Alvin Lee started my guitar playing.

There are 2 other notables. Allen Collins doing Freebird his energy and the

fun it looked like he was having and Tommy Bolin Poste Toasty.

In no particular order:

James Hetfield

Jerry Cantrell

Chet Atkins

Kirk Hammett

Paul Gilbert

Jari Mäenpää

Heri Joensen

Randy Rhoads

SRV

INXS started it all though. I first heard them when I was 6 years old. It was fall 1987 and I remember I was in my dad's car on my way to school. I knew music was going to be a huge part of my life until the day I die. I still love them. Well, Michael Hutchence era anyways.

To Metalheads and shredders, if you have never heard Jari Mäenpää, do youselves a favor and listen to "Winter Madness" by Wintersun. Jari composed all the music except drums for their debut album.

I've been performing or involved with music since about 1954. I was influenced, at that time, by anything I'd listened to and enjoyed up to that point in my very young life. That exact process has continued up to this very moment. I couldn't possibly begin to list the influences individually. Just the notion is exhausting! #-o[cool]

Because, I mean, I'm sure you've listened to him at least a little...

Top five:

1.Tony Iommi- Sabbath is awesome but Tony was the inspiration for me. THE MAN'S MISSING THE ENDS OF HIS FINGERS FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

2.Eric Clapton- ALL OF HIS WORK. No he's not God but He's blessed.

3.The Who- Like him or not Pete's a visionary.

4.AC/DC- Mostly Bon Scott era, some newer songs.

5.Allman Bros.-R.I.P Duane, and that Trucks kid has golden fingers, Dickey ain't bad either.

There's loads more but that would take all day.

HOLY SH!T Christopher Parkening!!! I haven't heard that name in a while. Shoot, I have his autograph somewhere at my parents house I think. He came to the Kennedy Center many years ago. I didn't make it to the show but my friend got him to sign the program.
