NeoConMan
Saw this serial number on a 2008 Les Paul today. 01421522 Does anybody see something wrong? Don't jump in and post the most obvious resolution, just whether or not it's a 2008. Give the new kids a chance to look at it and discuss it.... Would this number be on a 2008 Les Paul Goldtop? 01421522 Yes or No

Thundergod
I don't know what to think... Those are not the correct numbers for a 2008 SN BUT then again, Neo wouldn't be posting it if there wasn't something to learn from it. So I'm waitin' til he tells us what's this all about. ksdaddy
If I were on the witness stand, the statement I would make is that "based on my understanding of Gibson's serial numbering system, this serial number is unlikely to be found on a Gibson guitar manufactured in 2008." daveinspain
If it was a real 2008 LP the serial number would start with 08 At least thats what they have been doing the past 10 years or so unless it's a custom shop reissue... Did I win?
MojoRedFoot
It's not a 2008 # but Neo....this better be good.

ksdaddy
Here's a pic from Bozeman in 2007. I have no idea why these were segregated or how long they had been there or if/when they will be completed, but it's not implausible that a guitar could be set aside and forgotten for some reason, only to be completed at a much later date. One employee mentioned he had started a guitar in the early days of Bozeman, then went on to other roles within the plant. Someone found the unfinished guitar and asked him about it. It slowly came back to him. So there's an example of one that conceivably could have a 1988 or 1989 serial number but never got finished until 2007. Actually I don't know if that one ever did get finished!

NeoConMan
Gibson USA has always been 1st & 5th numbers of the s/n for the year. Laaz
Saw this serial number on a 2008 Les Paul today. 01421522 In China you use the first digit then add the third' date=' seventh and eighth together... Guess tha makes it a 2008... :-
cwness
Is it a Gibson USA Sig. they had 8 digit serial #'s CW
NeoConMan
Well..... Not to split hairs, but that's worth mentioning. Starting sometime late in 2005 or 2006, they went to a 9-digit serial. So there's part of the answer. If it was a 2008, it would look a little more like this, eh? 014210522 instead of 01421522
cwness
Yes 9 digit with 2008 stamped below it. There were Signature USA models that had only 8 digits. CW
NeoConMan
Well, looks like nobody here thinks that guitar is a 2008. Okay Boys & Girls, what year is the guitar? 01421522
