How much GAS?

How often do you get "serious" GAS?

I realize that just about everyone gets it everyday (especially around here), but how much do you get a prolonged version?

I had it bad for a few months, until I got my Casino, and then it went away for a while... now I'm itching to buy a Strat or Tele, and a new acoustic.

That's in addition the daily urges to buy a Dot, or Les Paul, or one of the dozens of other guitars I see.

Currently I am gas-ing for:

1. Epiphone Flying Vee Wee Rave Rig.

2. Line 6 pocket pod.

3. Any of the Prophecy line of Epiphone guitars.

Not necessarily in this order.

I forgot to add:

Epiphone WildKat Ltd Electric Guitar

I bought and sell around 30 guitars in the last 3 or 4 years.... Since E-bay got me sick for GAS... I normally keep my main guitar for long period, but the backups are travelling a lot.

Normally when I liked a guitar, I don't suffer for GAS for about a month or so...but there is some I did'nt even had for 2 days.

I'm not the kind of guy that will keep guitar to hang on the wall...I have to play it. This way, it's the same money that turned around. Normally I keep four of them. My main guitar to gig ( My Les Paul Ultra actually, but I had an American Strat for 3 years before ) my electric backup ( Hagstrom Viking for now ) and I still have my 2 accoustics for a couple of years... My gas is only effective on electrics....

i have gas like none other..... alot of it due to having several music styles that i play... some is that being a lefty, i have to have everyone i can get my hands on... some of it is thati want different versions of the same thing and different finishes for different vibes... if you are debating strat or tele, get a tele.... the waythat slab body feels is more like what you like about the bigson balance...that strumming arm contour thing SUCKS in my opinion.. i don like my whole arm rubbingthe guitar...

many things i gas for are the guitars i have always drooled over.... flying v, explorer, more lespauls, more sg, ore more more and all the fenders i want, short scales, thinlines, teles, mustangs, jaguars, jazzmasters the list goes on and on... probably die with 100 guitars. lol..

GAS happens everyday. If it's not a guitar, it'll be an amp; or an effect box;

or accessory.

GAS even happens while your ordering 'cause your mind is already

thinking about the next thing.

I've found the best way to combat gas (aside from Pepto Bismol)

is just play your gear...

1. Epiphone Flying Vee Wee Rave Rig.

I forgot that I wanted a Rave Rig... I don't care if it's a Pee Wee or a Vee Wee, but I want one... especially since I read that they were upgraded a bit.

I'm thinking about opening a Guitar Center credit card (with no payments or interest for 12 months), and buying something in the $700-800 range. My theory is that "the nicer the guitar, the less I'll want another one."

Something within that price range lets me pay it off before I go to college and lose most of my income.

I've always got GAS in one form or another..

Some of it is long term, (I've wanted a Rickenbacker 360 and a 4001/4003 bass for as long as I can remember..)

Some of it is short term, (the kind that you satisfy after a couple of months)

Some of it goes away for a while, then resurfaces... (Like the LP Junior - By the time that GAS came back, it was too late)

And sometimes, you end up wondering why you ever wanted that guitar in the first place..

I also have to justify my GAS.. I won't buy a guitar just because I think it looks cool. It has to fill a niche that is lacking in my collection.. Once that void is filled, I don't want another guitar of the same type, unless it's a substantial upgrade.. Like replacing my Dot with a Gibby 335... Or owning an Elitist Casino as well as my MIK (I'll never get rid of that guitar) I wouldn't buy another identical guitar just to have one in a different color, or feel the need to own a Tele in half a dozen configurations.. I do want an Ultra II as well as a studio, or standard LP... But I think those guitars are substantially different enough to warrant having both.

Of course, all of this is subject to change... There once was a time when I thought all I needed was one acoustic, one electric and one bass!

Eloquently stated! Couldn't have said it better my self. I think I'm safe in saying you've just stated

the position of many collectors who converge on this great site to find a common denominator... :D

The older I get the more gas... also I seem to have passed(...) the point where I feel the need to control it...

First 20 years I was content playing one custom built guitar. Now I have bought 4 guitars in 2 years. And I'm not done yet...

I am in the midst of building my own acoustic but can't wait to finish so I purchased a LP standard. The wife is going to be pissed. Not just for the guitar but also for the accessories that you NEED to have with the electric - amp, cord, stand, etc. I will be taking TUMS bigtime to keep GAS at bay while the dust settles at home.

There have been guitars I have wanted for years and years and.....

Now that retirement is not too far away I feel that NOW is the time to treat my GAS. Doesn't that sound logical? Huh? (Say yes please lol).

There is only one style of guitar that I don't yet have, a fat-bodied jazz machine. An Epi Vintage Sunburst ES-175 or Joe Pass is a real possibility in the near future. Then I will have cured my GAS. Really. 8-[

Well...

This week (sometime after Wednesday), I'm picking up a Strat.

In the past week, I bought a keyboard from a pawn shop (a cheap Casio, but its go some nice features).

I'm building a pedal board (Still a GAS issue I think).

I started bidding on a Tascam DP01FX/CD on ebay. I lost, so GAS hit me hard. So I went to Muscian's Friend. Saw the DP01 (The same as on eBay but without a CD burner and the effects). I applied for their credit line. To my surprise they gave a $700 credit line ! I ordered 2 effects pedals, the Tascam DP01, and a BOSS DR3 drum machine.

Hopefully this case of GAS will be gone for awhile (Probably no more than a week or two if it goes away at all :( ).

now I'm itching to buy a Strat or Tele...

Interested in a mint condition 1999 American Standard Strat in sunburst finish and a rosewood fretboard? Or a '52 reissue Tele in butterscotch with a Texas Special in the neck position?

I already have an '89 Strat, an Epi Dot and a Squier SuperSonic. I want somethin' new!

More GAS than cash.

Multiplied by playing sax, flute, wind synth, guitar, bass, and keyboard synth.

A little cash strapped by living a happy life as a professional musician (read: underpaid) but I can justify most purchases because I use them to earn a living.

Right now I'd like one each of:

* ES-339,

* SG,

* USA Strat,

* Parker PG12SB (one fine looking guitar),

* circa 1960s King Super 20 Silversonic tenor sax,

* Kurzweil PC3x synth,

* Synthophone,

* and next week's winning Florida Lottery numbers ;-)

Do you think it's curable with a great guitar' date=' or will you just want more?[/quote']

Good comment. Some might think that if you get the best of every guitar, you won't need any more. There is so much to choose from and they're all different. Same with amps, pedals, etc. I've thought the same thing many times.

Thanks, JG... (I'm blushing right now..) But you know, I don't really consider myself a collector... I mean, I look at guitars as tools... And I want to have a guitar for every application.. My goal is to have as many tonal "colors" in my palette as possible... I won't try to kid you, though.. I get GAS for guitars just because they're beautiful too!
