Multiples of the same guitar

I don't.. One of the basic rules that I hold myself to when I'm buying a guitar is that it has to be significantly different from any guitar I already own... I really couldn't get excited about buying another Dot in a different color, for example.. I've already got one that I tricked out the way I want...

I'd would like to have another Casino in VS, but I'm holding out for an Elitist... Apart from that, once I have it, I don't want another one...

It depends, I wouldn't want 4 Les Paul standards all basically the same, but....if the body is different wood, and you use diffenrt pups and different neck profiles....hell I have several mutt strats and all of them are entirely different sounding and have very different playing feels. Different neck radius, different fingerboard wood, different body wood, different pup configurations, different switching options......

Guilty as charged! Sentenced to "no more guitars!" (For awhile, anyway...LOL!)

Mine have been purchased, over the last 45 years, and though I have sold or traded

in the past, I always regretted it, sooner or later. So, now I don't do that, and have

too many guitars! But, when I try to think about selling any of them, it's like selling a kid!

Crazy, for sure...but true! I have 6 LP's, but all but (2 double cuts..different color and hardware),

are different...tone and appearance. Would I get another LP...probably not! Unless it was

a unbelievable deal, on a "Collectable" for an investment. But, I prefer to PLAY my guitars, and

not be one of those "investment only," folks. Plus, the rest of the "herd" is all differnt makes,

and models (Gibson, Ric's, Gretsch, Epi's, Fenders, Washburn-acoustic 12-string, etc.), so they have a tone,

and playability, all their own.

Some people like the novelty of a different color or different variation of a different year model.

There's some who like something of a particular batch that they have to have two of them in case they stop making them that way.

Some professional gigging musicians want the same exact sound onstage and want the same exact guitar as a back-up.

Some people like to to use different string sets on different axes.

Some people don't want to have to walk up or down a flight of stairs, so they have the same guitar on each floor.

Some people buy two of a collectible guitar, hang onto one to play, and leave the other one dead-mint with the intention to later sell later at a profit to pay for the keeper.

Some people are Siamese twins and just need two guitars and want them to match, like their clothes.

I've considered getting multiples of guitars mainly for one to be a beater or traveler, and one to play exclusively at home. Aside from that, all of my guitars are mainly different in music style.

Fortunately for my wife, I cant afford any more guitars...at the moment.

It's an addiction. I often look for "Guitars I don't have".

It's the old' "Grass is always greener on somebody else's guitar" thinking.

Every guitar I have is different from every other guitar I have in sound, feel, or playability.

Why?

I have no idea...... Just to have , I guess. And, they look real cool hanging on the walls.

Like I said, and has been said previously, it's an addiction. I'm SURE we can all understand that.

Variety variety and more variety-

Kind of like French Fries:

There's:

Mickey Dees, BK, Jack, Frozen, Curly, microwaveable, ovencooked, deep fried, restaurant syle,

garlic, In and Out, Chili Cheese, with skins, southern...

@ the end of the day they all serve the same purpose- great with a burger!

O:)

Unless there's a significant difference, I can't see myself buying a duplicate guitar...

I have a Squier Strat, and Fender Strat, but they're very different. I keep the Squier around, partly because I don't plan on ever getting rid of a guitar, but also because it's a nice backup.

I would consider an Elitist or John Lennon Casino, in addition to my standard.

Vintage doesn't count... I'd like to buy a vintage Casino or ES-330 if I can ever afford it.

It can be argued that all strats' date='LP's,SG's, Casino's etc...sound basically the same. Why then do so many of us own multiples of the same(or REALLY similar) guitars. I'm guilty....how 'bout you guys?[/quote']

That's pretty funny stuff right there!!!!!

For me it's a control issue. I have very little. Like has been said allowing for differents setups, electronics, color and finish options, etc., If I had money to continually spend on guitars, I would need a couple of buildings to house them all. I don't think too many of us would turn down a deal, whether it was on a guitar we already had or not !

I don't have two of the same model right now. But currently I've got a LP standard and am very seriously considering getting a prophecy LP GX which i consider to be basically the same guitar except that it better pups for metal and it has 24 frets and only 1 volume knob and tone knob. So to anser your question I think it really comes down to tweeks in color, hardware, neck style, and how much you can put into your guitars.

I have one main guitar ( LP Ultra ) and a back up ( Fender Telecaster ). I never kept two of the same. The only reason I'm keeping guitars for, is to play them. I used to have more, hanging on the wall and never played them...I got rid of the ones I was'nt playing. I'm really not a collectionner. I will probably buy a Gibson LP Standard pretty soon, and I will then keep the Tele as a back up and get rid of the Ultra. I don't give them names, just in case...lolll... They are my tools for gigging, that's all.

I'm trying to work towards that too Norm....I think it's the right attitude...at least for me. Although they do make nice wall art...thats not what they are for!
