tortoise guard on sheri

TWANG

Recommended Posts

I had a spot of trouble with a neck screw hole. and replaced this with one that fit correctly.

so I wound up with this one.. and I like it a lot.

I had changed to cream, but no gaurd material really matched my pickup covers, which I had hoped would work out.

I still like the cream a lot. So I suppose I'll be swapping back and forth now and then.

But here's two different looks for the sheri.

vote. what's better cream or tortoise shell or none!

(throwing in a b/w/b one, too.. but was unfinished in that pic..)

Hope my resizing worked this time.

Twang,

That tortoise shell just works for me on that guitar! It sets off both the pup surrounds and the natural color of the Sheri. The creme looks okay ... just a bit bland for my tastes. The black is just wrong IMHO.

Damn! Now I want a flippin' Sheriton! :D

I agree about the black.

Another guy I know from here has black.. you know him, too. *G*

But he's gone all black on his and that makes a lot of difference.

I like the cream.. I like no guard at all, too..

But lately, I find myself drawn to that darn tortoise guard...

Partly I think because it's not as dark as the stock stuff.

And partly because it doesn't have to match anything.

Mabye because of all the gold and light colors, too...

but it does look sharp.

I like the cream too.. since it's so non sheri. *L*

Oh well. got 'em both so..

maybe I'll use the tort with .011s and the cream with .010s!

Heres a spin on the choices, if you like it naked (No pickguard) then buy a transparent one so it doesent get scratched.

alternatively try a transparent black one, kind like the dark fire one.

in my professional opinion gogo naked. because its different. and lets the natural finish come threw. its really nice, a good example are some of the high end prs's.

where did you get those pickup rings?

I don't remember. WD or All parts. I think they both have them.

The plastic tends to wear too easily.

If you look at the top tort guard pic on the neck pup, around the adjustment screw you can see what I mean.

I'm going metal next time.

But I will have to conform them to the sheris arched top.

I'm gonna go on record that I think the Epi pickguard shape is just plain ugly. I much prefer the Gibson shape, especially the short style (like the one a nameless member made for me). Yeah, that's the ticket - short 335 tortoise with tortoise pickup rings.

I voted like this:

I also changed out the pickup rings for creme (don't miss the gold speed knobs!). If I had to have a pickguard, I'd go for the Gibson shape, as Ron G suggested...but I don't rest my hand on the pickguard, so I tend to take them off because I think they look lopsided.

There's just no denying the clean looks of this thing with no guard at all.

Shows all the wood.. the f holes give it a balance.

Even with some gold worn off it looks great.

The cream rings do a lot for the look that way, too.

Mine is like.. overstated elegance, and yours is like understated elegance.

*G

I do like the sheri shape guards as well as the giby style..

but I wanted to keep mine epi so.. both guards I use are sheri shape.

Haha. Thank you. Mine is also somebody else's dumplin' now, since I traded it off after I found a blonde ES-335 for a really good price.

Had I kept it, it would now be sporting a B7 Bigsby. =sigh=

Put me down for tortoiseshell. I think it looks lovely on the natural Sheraton. I went naked with mine for a while, I could see the point that some others have made about showing off the whole top, but after a while I decided that scratched guitars are not pretty. The tortoise look is the classiest option in my opinion.

The cream isn't too bad. I'm not a fan of the black.
