Epiphone as Therapy

A few days ago, I posted a question about the Swingster and, when I mentioned I had kind of the ultimate Epiphone collection, someone remarked I should post pics. So, I took a few quick pics today to put up (sorry about the quaity, just used my iPhone).

I say this was therapy because this collection came about as a result of a really bad time that fell on me around four years ago. I don't want to bore everyone with the details of it right now but if anybody really wants to know what happened, feel free to ask, I have nothing to hide. Anyway, instead of taking up heavy drinking or some other self-destructive behavior to cope, I dug out this old $99 I had collecting dust and started teaching myself to play. In the meantime, I developed a real appreciation for the instrument and decided I wanted a variety of nice guitars to play.

Now, I know there are people out there who say Epis are just second-rate Gibson wanna-bes. Well, that's ok, I like them anyway (so much so, I don't have the heart to remove the protective plastic on some). So, here's my "crappy" Epiphones collection...

First some acoustics....EJ-200, Limited Edition Hummingbird, EJ-200CE (my daughter who also became interested claimed the one on the left...

Next, some Beatles gear..... IBJL Casino, EJ-160E, IB 1964 Texan

Les Pauls.... Limited Edition Custom, Limited Edition Custom Classic, Ultra II

A couple of standard Casinos and a Limited Edition SG 1966 G-400 (my daughter claimed 2 out of 3)

The latest one.... Limited Edition Swingster

Sorry about this but three Fenders made the cut....standard Telecaster, VG Stratocaster, and Deluxe Nashville Power Tele (my daughter takes the standard one).

These things have done us a world of good. Again, if anybody wants to know why, just ask...

Whatever the reason, I think most of us understand exactly what guitars are capable of doing to ones psyche. I have long called guitars my "Stress" relief. Sometimes just walking by my music room, especially during the summer months when I can leave my acoustics out on stands along with my electrics, I just stand and smile as my body just relaxes a bit.

Picking one up and playing it makes it even better and having a variety makes it the best!

Congrats on a beautiful collection. You have a very lucky daughter. I have four kids, 3 boys and a girl. My boys are all Drummers! [confused] My daughter is my lone guitar player and at almost 16, has become quite good. She knows that all of mine will someday be hers but she still has picked out two favorites... my Taylor that was purchased the year she was born and my Gibson Advanced Jumbo because it just sounds so good when she plays it and sings! [biggrin] She has yet to try much electric, but I recently picked up a great 1996 built Casino and just had a whole new wiring harness installed. It sounds awesome.... I think she may fall in love if she picks it up to play.

Welcome to the group... you obviously LOVE your Epi's!!!

Welcome to the forum Nicobravo. You have a splendid collection of guitars. Anyone who says Epiphone's are Gibson wannabe's really doesn't have a clue. I just got done banging on my Prophecy SG EX and I can't find anything gibson could have done better as far as quality on this SG or my fave the Prophecy SG GX. If it feels good, plays good & sounds great who really cares if you paid $500 or $5000 dollars for your axe! The only thing different from Epi to Gibby is a Gibby might hold it's value better in some cases but not all! Keep on Rockin in the free World!

Rewd.

Very nice family of gits, and a daughter that plays with as well. Life is good, and you have done something good, with the fickle winds of fate.

I play and trade and learn, and totally love my Epi's.

I'm losing my hearing day by day, so I refuse to spend a fortune on guitars, as they will eventually leave me anyway. It's the here and now that counts for me.

Nicobravo, we all have bad hurts in our past, and if buying and playing nice gutars

is a "Vice" that you have fallen into, you're in good company. Welcome To the Forum!!

Out of pain comes some of the best, most honest music ever played and recorded.

Enjoy your daughters' interest in music, and your beautiful collection.

Never apologize for having those "Other Guitars"!!!

Very nice collection indeed! I am most jealous of that VG strat, I wish I would have picked one of those up..... You are missing something from your Epi collection and IMHO, it would strongly behoove you to get!! An Elitist of sorts, they are amazing instruments and any Epiphone enthusiast owes it to him/herself to get one!!
