SG FAN
What about Les Paul? Dude could shred, and well I might add. True, but not in the Van Halen, Rhodes, Vai kind of way.
Andy R
Randy Rhodes. You can say he wasn't a shredder, but I say he was one of the first. I get what you're saying but to be honest I almost hate to classify him in the same space as "A Shredder" Nothing against "Shredders per say" but Randy was just so musical and I don't really think he cared much about speed if it weren't contributing to the music. I would also kind of put Eddie in this same column. My Humble opinion!
Golem
` You read the topic! (unless you didnt ) now, who do you think is the best shredder? ` Every dead shredder is equally entitled to that honor. `

EVOL!
Can someone answer me this - why do all of the hard rock and metal shredders use that same lite digital delay on everything? Everyone from Buckethead to Satriani to Petrucci.

EVOL!
maybe because it sounds good But it doesn't and everyone in that genre does it. Reminds me of all of the hard rock bands using Mesa triple rectumfriers with their mids scooped. How many more guitars with this sound can a man take? surfpup
haha no offence buddy just getting my point across "in the best possible way" lol B) I know, but I'm not sure removing strings from the equation is the best possible way to make your point. What's the next step in that logic? Your licks would sound like s**t if you didn't have frets? Your licks would sound like s**t if you didn't have hands I have friends who shred quite proficiently. Yet they are the first to admit they are crippled without certain things... usually a flat neck, low action, lots of gain, and delay. Remove any of those and they are lost. Does that mean they are not talented? Of course not. But those are the "tools" they need to play the way they do. Meanwhile lots of bluegrass pickers exhibit similar proficiency without those requirements. I find that to be impressive.
