Duende
I wrote this piece for two very dear friends from Jacksonville, Florida, USA - Lewis and Belinda America is in three movements; Fanfare, Scerzo and Presto. The fanfare is a tip of the hat to the great landscapes and the cinematic views I have enjoyed in America, the Scherzo was written thinking of the busy traffic and also music of the south and the Presto was written thinking about America of the 1930s also the Great Gatsby! They are just impressions but I am interested hearing if Americans can hear any of America in it! cheers Matt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_32SBOCdH0
Big Bill
WOW Matt that was GREAT!. I was able to point out some Delta Blues and Blue Grass. I'm sure there's more, however my ear is limited. I really enjoyed that.
JimeJ
Matt - although I am not qualified to respond with musical intellect, I could not just listen without saying something. So, thank you for writing the piece. Its good to know that people enjoy our wonderful country and its great that you think enough of America to pen this piece even with the chaos that we sometimes suffer. I don't usually listen to classical style music, but still enjoyed it....You are obviously a talented player and here's hoping that you continue to progress to your fullest potential........J
Duende
Matt - although I am not qualified to respond with musical intellect, I could not just listen without saying something. So, thank you for writing the piece. Its good to know that people enjoy our wonderful country and its great that you think enough of America to pen this piece I have visited your country seven times and four of my best friends live there. I love the contrasts in America and have enjoyed my experiences there very much! Thanks for listening! Matt WOW Matt that was GREAT!. I was able to point out some Delta Blues and Blue Grass. I'm sure there's more, however my ear is limited. I really enjoyed that. YES!! I included a blues grass referenced in the second piece! That was a wave to Chet Atkins and the great American cross pickers Matt
BigKahune
Bravo ! Wonderful. Loved all three movements, and I could hear in the music the descriptions/inspirations you mentioned. Your playing is great, as usual. And a fine recording too. I see you've mentioned on YouTube it's a work in progress. Well, I think it's going great. You should expand the length some. Very interesting and at the end I found myself wanting a bit more of last two movements. Thanks for sharing. B)
djroge1
Great job Matt! I loved that last chord you played... what was that? So did you get to meet Sir Neville Marriner while you were there? How cool would that be?
Duende
Great job Matt! I loved that last chord you played... what was that? So did you get to meet Sir Neville Marriner while you were there? How cool would that be? No, but I met James Galway as he was playing 4 hours afterwards!! It was such an awesome day. I met my three friends after and we had a celebratory drink after too which rounded the day off perfectly! That chord was the James Bond chord! When I was playing my adrenaline was pumping like the clappers!! I made loads of slips just through sheer nerves. Bigkhaune, I had it recorded by a guy who specialises in live classical music recordings. I will definitely want to use him again. Matt

pippy
Absolutely wonderful piece, Matt, and such a generous gesture to dedicate it to your friends. Did I detect some Aaron Copeland shades in there, BTW? Awesome in the true sense of the word. P.

Duende
Hi Bill I have actually done an arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner for guitar and am going to post it here when I get around to writing it out! I have also done a sister version in a minor key. It actually sounds much better in a minor key too in my opinion! Here is a bit of the minor version Star Spangled banner in A minor -0----------------0-----5-----8---7---5-------------------0---------------8----7----5-----4------2--4----5----0--------- ----1---------1---------------------------------4----4------0------5---5---------------------------------------------1------- ---------2---------------5-----9---7---5-------------------1---------------9----7----5-----4----------------------------2-- --------------------------------------------------4----4------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------0---------------0----------------------2--------------------------------------------------------------0---------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------0----------------------------------0-------------------------------

saturn
I don't know that I would have made the "America" association without your prompting, but once I listened for it, I can hear it. Very beautiful and as-always, brilliant playing.
milod
Well... I just dropped a note on my "history and philosophy" e-list for the guys in the UK to listen to the youtube piece and, I hope, have the opportunity to hear you playing live. A guess that pretty much says it all. m
