Judging is 50% CREATIVITY of the overall page and theme, and 50% SINGING. A lot of entries I saw and really liked were not on this list…. I am humbled and amazed and just plain happy. I got thru this playlist just now and I DO have some stiff competition... I listen back to my own singing and am never quite happy and always hear flaws and glitches.... other people comment "great feeling" and "passion" and so on..... I dunno what to think. Happy for the validation tho! I have never entered a singing competition before – and I recorded this live and outdoors via webcam, which gave it its own set of mic’ing and other issues, but…….. wow….. this is a cool moment for me!! Even just making the Finals feels really, really good. I stood out over 701 other entries to get this far…. I am amazed. From what I can see it looks like they are singing to a previous recording.... I thought it was supposed to be a live performance Anywhoo, there is this one young lady on that site that can really lay down a performance.... Certainly working on scales will help you center those notes a bit better, but your vocal style (Motels feel) has a nice desperation / sense of longing inflection that I truly enjoy..... To explain: The judging was 50% "Creativity" as interpreted by the staff and final 4 owner/Admin judges. 50% singing. I expect - my singing while with "feeling" and "real" .... there ARE some imperfect notes in there, I can hear them too, but I was getting sweaty and hot and tired out there in the yard and I was losing my daylight and my "oomph" so I kept the "best overall performance" video. As to the lip-syncing; Each member laid down initially the live performance to the track which you hear. So the vocal performance you hear is or SHOULD BE a live take, not mini-cuts or verse by verse etc as you might lay it down in ProTools etc. They THEN added in the "creative video element" -- (I think/suppose) as a "harmony" track. Whether or not it's been harmonized (multi-tracked/layered) should be indicated on the song title in parenthesis as "(harmony)." It's also possible they created the video, then sang along to their performance as they watched it import(ing)? However these guys also are better at things like iMovie or Win Live Movie Maker programs and APPARENTLY there is a way to cut video then import it as you are "recording" the track on the site, but, I did not & still don't know how to do it. I really liked for example girl #1 on that list (scroll back to top - she's first alphabetically) who turned the karaoke track all the way down and SLAYED a great performance with her guitar, LIVE. I have NO experience with lip sync'ing and while I thought about cutting some vid together IF I could figure it out by the deadline, I figured I would screw that up. There are some whiners on the Contest Thread in the forum they have over there, but I am NOT one of them. I am happy I entered - that in itself took GUTS for me -- AND even happier I placed Top 35 which is a Big Deal out there on that site. I had 0 fans when I entered and now I have 15 (last count) who "flagged" me which means they'll see me first when I do a new upload etc. I had 0 FRIENDS there when I entered and now I have at least a dozen chatting with me. Which is GREAT! Now, I feel some "belonging" if that makes sense, as when Damian intro'd me here and you were all so warm and welcoming. Duanev, EXCELLENT TIP to work on scales - I have not pushed myself in that department but AM trying real hard to stick those notes right in the center. It's my biggest issue (next to timing, LOL!!)..... but some producers in Nashville (not the type who could sign me, boo-hoo, LOL, but) have told me, Linda: TONE and FEEL can't be "fixed" in the studio in Post. Pitch and time - CAN. You HAVE TONE AND FEEL so just work on the rest and don't panic about it so much b'c we can fix that. BUT as an "artist" I have a HUGE part of me that revolts at the very idea of being FIXED..... I want to get there My-Self and be able to slay it LIVE with all four parts coming together for me. So I will definitely keep working at it. And on bad days when I feel down I go "well Kurt Cobain was off pitch a lot too...." ROFL Thanks for all the support! And, would have chosen different winners myself I think from the 35.... several videos truly impressed the socks off me a little more, but, I do feel the winners are deserving and I'm happy for them!
