  1. It's always rough losing a pet, dogs give their all to us.
  2. Good deal! Uncle Sam comes through in the end.
  3. You did really good, congratulations!
  4. He ain't got nothin' on me. Dunt dunt duhhh Dunt dunt duhhh oh crap, there goes my pick...
  5. We're hard of hearing. You know that.
  6. You put your time to good use! I'm still fudging Smoke On The Water but I'm getting there.
  7. Or a J-40, that might be the perfect HD-28V companion as it's a similar sound in a smaller package for when you get too fat to reach around a dreadnaught.
  8. Amazon shipped me the wrong album so I had to go to the UPS store to return it. There was some young guy in there with no mask and it was great, an inconsiderate diseased human... A year ago I never would have thought like that.
  9. Yeah, the Martin's are sadly lacking in that iconic tone department. Maybe if I put a VariTone on mine?
  10. Hey, don't get the one I've been watching for the past two months, please! You probably won't, it plugs into an amplifier but it does afford an iconic tone... I'm using D'Addario 80/20 Phosphor Bronze strings on the HD28V with good results. You might want to give them a shot. The previous owner had some sort of Martin strings on them which sounded really good, too. The first time I played it and felt the bass rumble in my bloated, hairy white gut I was sold!
  11. It looks like you're going to have enough tonal options with those pick ups despite the lack of historically correct plastic bits. I really like the fretboard inlays, handsome guitar.
  12. Yes, I really did, ha, ha. It made me realize just how long I've been sitting here, waiting for things to return to normal. I think I've flipped a toggle switch to the bridge position 5,000 times in the last year for that solo. Oh, wait a minute...
  13. you flip a toggle switch to the bridge position and the guitar isn't even plugged in.
  14. I'll take the one on the right, please. Thanks!
  15. Look at a Marshall Origin 20, my Gold Top w/ P90s really sounds good through that. The cord makes a difference, too. A recommendation from this site was one of the upper end Rolands and I'm very happy with them.
  16. Congratulations! If yours sounds anything like mine you'll wind up with one HD-28V, a couple of beaters you don't care about and you'll stop thinking about other acoustics. The neck will take a little bit to acclimate to but you had a Lucille so it shouldn't present any issues.
  17. That's exactly how the one in this area is - bare walls and dusty shelves. The GC employees were great to deal with but it didn't look good. I know bashing on GC is a national past time but they've always been really good to me. They screw things up every so often but they make it right.
  18. Please, there was a riot at the local Guitar Center as they ran out mid-morning. After the cops left they took their off of the wall USA model beaters and jacked the prices up to Relic Level to prevent a repeat of the Angry Lynch Mob.
  19. According to their web site the non scratch n dent models are still there. It's kind of an academic exercise for me as I'm too cheap to pay for their regular old non beater historic series.
  20. Why a thread on pre-beat up guitars keeps wandering over to wars from the last century and earlier is beyond me. I'll pipe in, though: we owe so much to the British. If Hitler had beat us to the bomb, well, different people would be here but probably not us. Most likely our ancestors would have perished. It is really strange to see the rise of Fascism around the world. I've got news for these pinheads, your grandparents would tar and feather you and for good reason. They didn't fight them because they were bored. And now, back to our episode of Pre Beat Up Guitars (and the people who love them).
  21. A happy ending. I agree, Firebirds are pretty cool. This guy did it for me:
  22. I was thinking how embarrassing this whole fake old guitar thing is and if I owned the company I'd shut it that department down and try to pretend it never happened and then I spied the bit about how they feature chemically-recreated plastics. I must admit the error of my ways. Take my 10 Gs and make me happy!!!
  23. Got up stupidly early, played guitar, worked until 2 PM, worked on a murdersickle in honor of Daylight Savings Time, play guitar some more and sack out. I can't wait until Summer!
