  1. Thanks jdgm! We are getting close and very excited. Nov 9th will be 3 years since the fire. The shade to the left of the second photo is actually our neighbor. Looks like we barely missed the pot of gold! I wouldn't venture down there anyway. mountain lion sightings have been frequent lately (I'm serious). One grabbed a kid in their back yard in Calabasas recently (close by). Mom saved the child and the sheriff came and shot it. Won't take the chance!
  2. This AM. Rare Southern California rain last night. Almost finished house. I'll take it as a sign hopefully of good things to come. Here's another. I was sleeping this AM and Vanessa came running in after putting the dogs in the pen screaming get up, get up, grab your camera!! I don't think I have ever seen a complete rainbow in So. California before.
  3. Very sad news. I really liked conversing with him here.

Really cool, congrats! I too love black guitars. Chubbykins...yea
  5. When I was growing up in Arkansas, we would have called that a squall line. That would’ve meant a tornado was likely.
  6. Maybe it was John and George playing a Gibson acoustic that originally made me want to get one. I bought a J 45 custom in 2011 for my 51st birthday and have never looked back. I had a custom shop J 45 acacia and a five star quilt J200. I lost them all in the fire of 2018 that burned through Malibu. Now I’m starting over. I love Gibson acoustics.

Very cool. I too would love to hear it. I am considering a made to measure maple J 45. I played a Maple AJ once that blew me away. I figure the bird will sound different from a J-200
  8. Good call. I am certain alcohol played a role.
  9. Another pano. Waikoloa. I love the contrast of the white coral and the black lava.
  10. Just returned from Hawaii. This was 2 days ago. What a wonderful place.

    Evertune.

Exactly. The tuning "zone" which stretches across a range of string tension actually absorbs the bend as you surmised. It is possible to bend if you can tune the string towards the extreme range of the function tension but I wasn't able to do it successfully and I bend a lot. So I decided to tune to an open tuning (E), raise the action and play where I don't bend - slide. I didn't want to just throw it away. I sent in an inexpensive Warmoth parts caster and they (Evertune) mounted the bridge. Seemed a waste to sell for a loss so I'm trying to make do.

Thanks jdgm, the house is about 2 months out so getting close! I’ll post some photos

    Evertune.

A pasta pro set up is centered around the linguini principle.

    Evertune.

I have one. I wouldn't do it again. Worked well until I needed to change strings. Very difficult to get back in the zone. Can't bend (knew that going in). Had it changed from Eb to open E tuning for slide. Isn't in tune even pasta pro set up. I don't pretend to be anything but a decent guitar player. Should be for someone like me and more user friendly. There you have it.
  15. Our dog Brynn died in April. My wife flew to Korea and endured a weeks quarantine not being able to leave the hotel room. We adopted a Jindo dog from the Dove project which rescues dogs from the Korean meat trade. We then adopted 2 more. Meet, from left to right: Bridgette, Bella, and Bartholomew. 2 Baekgu Jindos (translation white dog) and 1 Hwanggu (Yellow dog translated). The big one in the back is Buster Brown, a local rescue, 9 years old.
  16. I've always been a music guy and didn't even listen to lyrics until someone informed me that the Dylan song they loved was world defining. My psychologist wife on the other hand judges a song by it's lyrics. We both think the goal posts are changing. What might have been offensive in it's extremeness at the time it was written help set the standard and therefore is no longer shocking or extreme through the glasses we wear today. Take any misogynistic violence encouraging rap song from the 90's. People became numb to it. On the other hand a song taken fairly lightheartedly as tongue in cheek pushing the boundaries bravado in the late 60's and early 70's would get you cancelled today. e.g. Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields, sold in a market down in New Orleans.....How come you taste so good. So yea there were songs that pushed the envelope but it wasn't the envelope that we have grown into. So Sparquelito, it's open season.
  17. As a cheat I tune down my A string to G and don't play either E. Middle position on a tele or P-90s and voila...Keef. Every year for the past 25 we end a conference that I am a part of in Graz, Austria at a gala party with a set of stones songs. All the usual suspects-JJF, B.S. HTW, also Start me up, Paint it black, Back in the USSR ..oh wait. Highlight of the year (except the last 2). Next year is the 25th. Anyone want to join, you are welcome.
  18. Sticky Fingers is classic. I have loved everything they've done all along. I've seen them live 4 times starting in 78 in New Orleans. Phenomenal very time. All Down the Line and Midnight Rambler live make me go nuts every single time. Certainly don't need to defend them, the proof is in the pudding. Look at what Keith and Mick have done...for 60 years. Comes down to personal taste doesn't it?
  19. Stunning. I can't decide whether it is thin flame like quilt or thick quilt like flame? Amazing. I am jealous
  20. J'ville Jam 1977. The V behind me was the ville in J'ville (Jacksonville, Arkansas). probably 20 people in attendance. I just got it 43 years later but I had a V behind me and one in front of me. I still have that guitar.
  21. Very very very cool guitars Philsr57 PhilT60
  22. it'll be a different beast. I hope you enjoy it. I love my 87 black with a maple neck. Jeff Beck describing a Strat: It’s a tool of great inspiration and torture at the same time because it’s forever sitting there challenging you to find something else in it, but it is there if you really search.
  23. Picked out plumbing fixtures for the new house. Almost finished with framing.
