  2. I remember the boy's bathroom( it was called the "lavatory" back then) in my elementary school( built in 1918) had a very good reverb effect to it. And I recall reading somewhere that in their early years, while still performing under the name of "Tom and Jerry", the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel used to rehearse in such a "lavatory" in one of the buildings at one of the colleges they were attending. And mostly because they too dug the effect it gave them. Acoustic jams can often be more fun than full electric. I think it's the sense of intimacy they yield that does it. Whitefang
  3. But you know, That isn't always the case. What I like about them is mostly the movies are story and character driven and not a lot of vacuous CGI driven eye-candy. Like that Transformers drivel and Marvel comics "live action" tripe. But true, like movies from any time period there are great ones and real stinkers. Plus there's a lot of great lines in some of them. Like in the original IMITATION OF LIFE('34), African-American actress Louise Beavers, while on the terrace of a lush apartment where she lives with her business partner(a very white Claudette Colbert) looks up to the floor where a very fancy party of theirs is taking place. Remarking about the band they hired for the occasion, she says to the person she was talking to, "Those boys play alright for white boys." And DINNER AT EIGHT('33) gives us this great parting line from Marie Dressler to Gene Harlow.... Whitefang
  4. Ha! There used to be a hardware store in Metro Detroit that back in the late '70's spurred record sales of snow blowers with the guarantee that if there was under a certain inch level of snow that winter they'd give a full refund while letting customers keep the snow blowers anyway. Unfortunately, that winter had a record LOW snowfall and everyone of the snow blowers they sold that winter were fully refunded. And the store shortly went out of business. As luck would have it, they thought because for the three or four winters before that Michigan endured record levels of snowfall they figured they were in the clear. Whitefang
  5. Hell, it's going up to 34 degrees today here. 50 tomorrow and will be in the mid 40's the rest of the week. Whitefang
  6. "Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag"--Country Joe and The Fish Whitefang
  7. I too, once had a large collection of straws. Mostly lifted from hospital rooms my wife was in whenever she had to go in for low hemoglobin. Now I have NO idea where they wandered off to. My daughter said she thinks it has something to do with Karma. Whitefang
  8. I spend a lot of time watching TCM(Turner Classic Movies). Believe me. Superfly isn't really all that old. This morning they're showing a string of Constance Bennett movies from the 1930's. And a word to the "kiddies".... A movie's age isn't necessarily a sign that it's "crappy". There's lots of movies now playing in theaters and being streamed that are plenty "crappy". Whitefang
  9. I always said that when you reach a certain age the years become only six months long. Or so it seems.... Whitefang
  10. This sounds pretty rough and raw, but it's honest. This pair, the man called himself Jawbone and his wife Jolene used to make their living traveling around the Texas/Louisiana area busking for a living. Jawbone was once a member of the "Talk Music" forum I'm a member of until his sudden death a couple of years ago. The cause of his death is still unknown to the forum, and as he was also the primary caregiver for his wife Jolene, who had multiple health issues, her fate also is still unknown. As they could afford computer service and a means to record meant their living on busking and odd jobs was doing pretty good. It was rare indeed to see Jolene without sporting some kind of hat. 11. They can be costly, but if you can swing it, try one of these..... Since I shelled out for one of these we've haven't even had the threat of a power outage. I've been trying to get the neighbors to contribute funds for an expression of gratitude. Whitefang
  12. My wife told me her ex had the annoying habit of filling their garage with a lot of useless old crap. And gave the equally useless excuse, "Could probably use it someday." When someday never came she went to U-Haul and rented a trailer and paid a couple of neighbor kids to help her load it up and got rid of ALL the useless crap he was saving for "someday". But she wasn't amused when I told her I thought that was a good idea of what to do with all those shoes of hers one day when she was at work. Whitefang
  13. A fierce African native tribe captured two men from a safari that they claim desecrated sacred relics. Taken before the chief they were given a choice of punishments. "You have desecrated our sacred ancestral property. You can choose your punishment. Your choices are death, or bungee. Which do you choose?" Well the first man says, "As I assume bungee isn't death, then that's the punishment I choose." The chief says, "He chooses bungee so it shall be bungee." Then claps his hands. A very tall and burly native steps out of a hut and removes his loincloth to reveal a Penis that was a quarter inch from touching the ground and as thick as his neck. With little coaxing it was soon fully erect and hard as stone. Then the native proceeded to sodomize the first man savagely . When he was through the first man lay on the ground moaning and in a fetal position. The chief then says. "Place him in a hut until he recovers then set him free. He has had his punishment." Then turned to the second man and asked, "Which punishment do you choose? Death, or bungee?" And the second man says, "that bungee is the most most savagely humiliating thing I've ever seen done to a man. I would prefer to die rather than suffer that indignity. So I choose death." So the chief then said, "He chooses death and so it will be. Death. Death by bungee." Whitefang
  14. Since my mini stroke in '14 for some reason I started getting all kinds of crap in the mail. Address labels, Christmas cards( Not from family, but unused cards from various charities trying to guilt me into sending a donation) . I've got enough ballpoint pens to supply my city's entire school system. Also dream catchers, rosaries, and neck chains with either religious or other type pendants on them. And key chains. The only thing I get that I do throw out are the wall calendars. I usually get close to two dozen a year, and toss out "last year's" calendars. Then it starts all over again. I haven't bought Christmas cards in seven years. I finally used up all I had this Christmas, but I'm sure my collection will build up sufficiently by next Christmas. Same with birthday cards. And yes, it's because I too, can't abide throwing away anything that's useful. and I keep trying to give some things to people who might be able to use them too. When my wife died (five years ago this coming December) My daughters helped me unload much of her stuff( she was their step Mother) which consisted of.... One five drawer chest of drawers with each drawer stuffed full of various clothing, one small cabinet that held 15 pairs of jeans. Another six drawer chest of drawers that held her pajamas and sweats, most of the space in three closets of dresses, blouses, coats and jackets. Whew! My younger daughter's boyfriend has a daughter from his previous marriage that works at a Salvation Army store. She was mighty grateful for the donations. I offered my wife's sisters to come over and take whatever clothing they liked(as they all were the same size) but they said they each had their closets and chest of drawers so full they really didn't have room for anything else. But I still have most of her jewelry which isn't going anywhere. Whitefang
  15. I've always liked the looks and feel of Hagstroms. No, never owned one, but tried out a few back in the "day" at music shops. I once told the tale here that I ran across a '72 Hag Viking at a pawn shop. Nice price too. But within the ten minutes it took me to go home and get the scratch somebody bought it. Whitefang
  16. "Bet On The Blues--John Denver Whitefang
  17. And I saw a sign that said, "Dangerous curves" and almost wrapped my car around a pole while busy looking all around for those women. Whitefang
  18. Yep. Him and his fellow SCTV alum Catherine O'Hara. Whitefang
  19. "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"--The Animals Whitefang
  20. PSSSST! Here's a hint...... No matter WHAT that groundhog sees, there's ALWAYS six more weeks of winter. Whitefang
  21. I've never seen it listed on the cable guide where it shows what's on the CBC channel we can pick up in Detroit. If so, I'd check it out. If it's HALF as funny as Schitt's Creek, then it's probably TWICE as funny as anything produced in the states. Whitefang
  22. Ha! I was my 2nd wife's third husband and my ex also remarried, so both men AND women are replaceable. Whitefang
