  1. There's the answer then. DON'T buy a Martin, Gibson or any guitar off the rack. Have them build one for you to your specs. Should cost nothing more than chump change, right? 🙄 Sure. ðŸĪŠ But I didn't notice Lars, your offer to aid others here financially in order for them to live up to your exacting standards. Most people don't have houses built, they buy what looks good and sturdy enough for them at prices they can afford. Having every or anything built for them at certain specs is beyond their income level. Most people didn't grow up in the construction industry or study architecture in school, or are instinctive enough auto mechanics to draw up a list of exacting specifications for a car they wish to order. The first car I bought brand new and ordered from the dealer dealt with typical "specs". Color of the car and interior, and any other available options. Most people back then only did it that way. Not knowing the exact wood a guitar was assembled with might not have any negative affect in it's tone or durability. The buyer's ear will determine how good it sounds to THEM(they're the one buying it after all) and with attentive care will probably last a lifetime. Whitefang
  2. KUDOS! Had I tried working on that, by the time I was through it would look like a "before" photo. I wouldn't have the patience for that kind of project. I admire anyone with the skill and patience to do that sort of work and do it well. Whitefang
  3. Word of advice 40; You CAN get the photos in your phone printed out at any CVS or Walgreen's. That way important family photos won't get lost forever if something happens to your phone, like getting stolen or seriously damaged or whatnot. Like my sister in law, whose only pictures of her great grand daughter were on her phone, which fell unnoticed out of her purse and not noticed it was gone and wasn't to be found in the mall parking lot which she thought it might be where it fell out. Sure. Her Granddaughter sent her more pictures(she lives 140 miles away in Northern Michigan) but it's not the same. Some of those pictures were taken in her home and with Grandpa in there with her too. Those and important phone numbers of old friends she hasn't written down anywhere else so she couldn't contact them to let them know she has a different phone and new number. Most of the old gas stations I shot were "mini marts", which were there when they were still gas stations. A few became discount flower shops, one is now the Park Tire shop, one a foreign car repair shop. Another became a Mickey Shore car audio shop.(Mickey Shore was a popular local DJ back in the "say"). Over the years some of them became SPRINT and T-MOBILE outlets. In neighboring Southgate, MI is an old gas station, built in the '30's of an art deco architecture style that was recently repainted and still sells gasoline. And only one stall for minor repairs. Not sure which oil company ran it originally, but it's been a Mobil station since I can remember. Whitefang

  5. Either in haste or my old man memory is hinky, I recall posting(or maybe I forgot to click on "submit reply") a question about whether Sitka spruce is really superior for tone than the many other spruce woods, or is it used because it may be in better abundance that the others? And that I don't know just what kind of wood was used when my 50 year old Epiphone FT-145 was built, but the guitar's tone is just fine with me. And(Sgt. Pepper might like this) a buddy of mine was kind of envious because he said it had better tone than his '67 J-45. Whitefang
  6. I wouldn't mind seeing that photo. Once for an adult night photography class I did a series of photos called "Out Of Gas" which were photographs of recognizable former gas stations repurposed for other businesses. Ah, but when me and the ex split she dumped the photos before I could get back to retrieve them. Whitefang
  7. Well Rob.... Clicked on the posted image to see it enlarged or some better look and it went to a screen that informed me that to continue I had to log in to FaceBook. No thanks. 😝 Whitefang
  8. "My Eyes Adored You"--Frankie Valli Whitefang
  9. Maybe it was my cheap "Meijer Thrifty Acres" computer speakers, but it sounded like a hollow body electric trying to sound acoustic to me. Whitefang
  10. Billy Crystal once did a routine about that. His daughter ran up to him all excited and asked him, "Hey DAD! Did you know Paul McCartney was in a band BEFORE Wings?" then he went into his "old Jew" mode... "Sit down dollink, and Papa will tell you all about that old good time band, the BEATLES. *hack* *P-too!*" Whitefang
  11. spec·i·fi·ca·tion /ˌspesəfəˈkāSH(ə)n/ noun 1.an act of describing or identifying something precisely or of stating a precise requirement:"give a full specification of the job advertised"Similarstatement, stating, naming, identification, definition, ... more Powered by Oxford Dictionaries Whitefang
  12. "Pretty Little Angel eyes"--Curtis Lee Whitefang
  13. The lead guitarist in a band I was in would do that to "kick off" our beginning to The Amboy Dukes' "Journey To The Center of The Mind". But couldn't do that early Nugent solo justice. Whitefang
  14. Those Doves have always been great looking and sounding guitars. Sadly, THIS is the only Dove I have....... Whitefang
  15. Not even those Fishman or LR Baggs units they put in many models? Whitefang
  16. "Angry Eyes"--Loggins and Messina Whitefang
  17. Sure. I've been telling myself that for years! Some day I'm going to convince me! My only setback was a mini-stroke nine years ago(already?) that's still affecting my dexterity and endurance. I occasionally squeeze on a small sand(fake) filled plastic sack made for stress to work on finger strength. A little sand filled stress ball. My brother thought they were silly. His idea of a good "stress ball" was a shot put. You relieve the stress by throwing the shot put hard as you can at the head of the a-sshole causing your stress! Whitefang
  18. Except for the split diamond on the head stock and the tailpiece it looks more like a 350. Most Johnny Smith images I find look like; With no dials on the body notice. And the 350 images I find are like; Apparently the OPs guitar has been modified. From what I'm not sure. Whitefang
  19. Me and a buddy (back when we were 15) used to hitch hike to a country club where we were caddies. That'd be 1966. And true too, I haven't seen a thumb out for more than 30 years. Or even this
  20. Ah, sweet youth. In my time we had to (as Zappa eluded to) sneak Dad's bottom drawer magazines out, or another buddy's Dad's Redd Foxx LPs out of hiding when the folks were out. 😛 And then learn of the miracle cleaning power of------ Whitefang
  21. "like" Peter Kay? I've never heard of him. And he seems to be an "acquired" taste. Whitefang
  22. Wow. Sure sounds like Norco is needed in your case. My wife(for some reason that slips my mind) took Norco because Vicodin for some reason wasn't available. Problem with that was a nephew of ours kept faking back pain in efforts to borrow some from her and a sister of hers who was also prescribed it. Both my wife and the sister are gone now, and the a-hole nephew is left without a source. But hang in there Crow. I'm pullin' for ya. Whitefang
  23. Soft Machine? First time I heard of and heard them was as one of the three opening acts for Hendrix in February of '68. And they were good. But at that time Kevin Ayres was their guitarist. Holdsworth didn't join them until sometime in the '70's. But as to the featured band, yeah, great chops, but the clip seems to be more about their wanking on Latin themes. I'll have to hear more from them to make a better informed opinion. Whitefang
  24. It was Kismet. How many times did Gibson hit the skids since then? There is the preponderance of a particular beetle that threatens the large areas of Ash tree groves. I think most bats now are made of Maple. Past Montreal and Red Wing player Mickey Redmond, who does the "color" for Detroit red Wing games still often refers to the sticks as "lumber". Probably more out of habit. And I never liked the sound of a ball being hit by an aluminum bat. Doesn't sound "natural". Whitefang
