  1. I once saw a '72 Hagstrom Viking in a pawn shop that some(kid I'm assuming) put a huge plastic reflector with an American flag on it on the top of the guitar's body. Looked like Hell, but I was willing to buy it and go through the expense of having it removed and the finish repaired. But by the time I got back with the money(ten minutes) somebody else had already bought it. Whitefang
  2. Hunting knife? Really, what game does anyone hunt with a knife? In MI, we have a gun season(for deer) and a bow season. But, no knife season I've ever heard of. Whitefang
  3. Actually, I think putting stickers on your case or guitars is kind of juvenile. When you're young a lot of stupid and silly sh!t seems cool. A long time ago, when a Downtown theater was showing the WOODSTOCK documentary, they were handing out stickers . I was still young thinking enough to think putting it on my guitar( a cheap Kalamazoo KG) would be cool. But just a short year later I couldn't believe I was that stupid. Whitefang
  4. We thought he was great. Turns out this (almost signature) sketch had various changing people play the gorillas. Sometimes the ape on the left was JACK LEMMON, other times FRANK SINATRA. The ape at the piano was often Ernie's wife EDIE ADAMS. The middle ape was always Ernie. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you.... THE NAIROBI TRIO Whitefang
  5. "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman"--Aretha Franklin Whitefang
  6. He was a character, played up "gayly" by ERNIE KOVACS on one of his several TV ventures. Percy would be the host of a poetry recital show. Whitefang
  7. Right now? The TV's on in the background. Some old Stewart Granger flick. Last night it was Beethoven's 5th concerto again. The Berlin Orch. conducted by Karajan, Alexis Weissenberg, piano. Whitefang
  8. Another sad loss for music for sure. RIP David. Whitefang
  9. You know you're getting old when you can remember who Percy Dovetonsils was. Whitefang
  10. "Girls, Girls, Girls"--Motley Crue Whitefang
  11. Cons? You mean like shooting your personal banking information out into cyberspace where the possibility of some scumbag getting ahold of it is greater? Or where returning something that arrived defective or the wrong size or whatever is way more of a hassle than getting your lazy *** into your car and driving the ten minutes to get an exchange or refund? Of course, that's only if the item was a gift, because you're probably gifted with sense enough to do your best to buy yourself the right size of clothing, and if possible, check out something for defects before taking it to the check out. Right? Whitefang
  12. Don't play guitar with cheap jeans? I usually play guitar with my fingers and a plastic pick, but I'll try to keep that advice in mind. And my guitars don't wear cheap jeans. Aeropostale Khaki only. Whitefang
  13. '62 sounds right. That's about the time I started taking a genuine interest in the sport. And which explains why Sawchuk was the first goalie I saw wearing the face mask. But because of general disinterest among the greater Detroit area, it was easier to watch Wings games when they played either Toronto or Montreal. That way we could pick up the games on the VHF channel coming out from Windsor, Ont. just across the Detroit river. (CBC). But by '65 a UHF start-up channel started carrying the games. But we had to get a sort of adapter to hook up to our TV in order to get the channel in. Not all televisions at the time came with UHF capability. Whitefang
  14. Then you're the same age as my brother would be had he still been with us. And that was one of his favorite shows. I remember watching it too, although I think the last few years of it or so. The show first aired on TV(it was on radio too) a couple of months after I was born(July, '51) and ran until 1959. And I think my brother was more infatuated with the twin Cessna than Penny. 15. We had a local "outdoors" type show("Michigan Outdoors") hosted by a guy named Mort Neff. And a sort of travelogue type show where erstwhile nature film makers would show their 16mm travel films hosted by a guy named George Pierott. There WAS the "Gordie Howe hat trick" which was a goal, an assist and a fight. And Terry Sawchuk was the first goalie I ever saw wear a face mask. "Tom Terrific" was seen on "Captain Kangaroo" regularly. Along with CRUSADER RABBIT And...... COLONEL BLEEP! Remember this intro....? Whitefang
  16. Loved the "Love for crumbly pastries" line. On a TV show from the mid 2000's called "The Middle", the wife on the show had an obsession with the Royal family. She even rented an extra large screen TV to watch the Royal Wedding(William and Kate). Plus scones to have with tea while she watched. She walked into the living room to see her husband eating the last of the scones. He defended his action by saying, "I should have thrown them out. They were stale and dry." And she told him, "They're SUPPOSED to be stale and dry. They're BRITISH!" 😜 Whitefang
  17. "Goin' Downtown"--Joe Jackson Whitefang
  18. Les Miserables was no quick read. But well worth the effort, eh? So was his THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. Just started my re-read of Ken Kesey's SOMETIMES A GREAT NOTION. Whitefang
  19. That photo along with the title does the trick! Whitefang
  20. In 1966? Cripes, by that time my school district quit having those drills. All we had were the occasional fire drills. But 1966 was my first year of high school, and the new high school building(as "new" as 1961) was constructed with a lower level fallout shelter and the walls were plastered with posters instructing us how to get to it, if the need ever arised. But yeah, I remember the "duck and cover" under the desk drills we had in grade school. We also had another drill for tornadoes should one ever come along. They called for us to go out to the hall and(since the school was built in 1918 there were no lockers an those walls) crouch down under where our coats or jackets were hanging down where the floor met the wall. But I don't think a tornado would have done much if any serious damage to this building.... Goodell elementary school, Lincoln Park, MI.... Looks to be around the later '40's. Whitefang
  21. Saw a couple Gibsons. That genre could use some lessons in album cover art design. And yes folks, they are legit LPs. Whitefang
  22. The more unusual LP I've seen, but a handsome one nonetheless. But I'm just chiming in with an opinion on it's looks. I'm really not "expert" enough to venture a guess on it's actual heritage(pun not intended). But I'll second that welcome to the forum, Enzo. Whitefang
  23. "The House Of Blue Lights"--Andrews Sisters Whitefang
  24. The only reason I can see why your idea wouldn't work on "social media" is.... You spelled everything correctly. But I do understand it's only an example. Whitefang
