  2. Sure. I saw an interview with B.B. King where he claimed his first string "instrument" was a length of wire nailed to the post holding up the overhang on the small sharecropper shanty he grew up in and the porch. Whitefang
  3. I'm not complaining. Sure, we got bitter cold in my area. But nowhere near the amount of snow that was threatened. It was 10 degrees when I got up this morning. That's all I care to know. I can do without that "real feel" nonsense. šŸ˜› Whitefang

  5. Yeah, that EMENEE I mentioned had plastic frets. And at the time I had NO idea how to tune it or how to hold ANY chords. So I tuned the strings to sound like a chord, not sure which one, maybe C, and I'd change chords by placing my index finger over all the strings and go up and down the neck of the guitar. Like, I later found out, how JONI MITCHELL did a lot. And too, Richie Havens. But back then I never saw anyone play that way. Ahead of my time? Naw. Just didn't know any better. Whitefang
  6. Never heard Clapton's tone referred to as a "woman" tone. This needs further clarification. It's why I respect and admire anyone who plays slide good. I tried(and keep trying) to play at least halfway decent slide with no positive results. I remember seeing comedian/musician Martin Mull do a blues parody using a small baby bottle for a slide on a ukulele. Did one verse of a song he called, "The upper middle class white man's blues." I remember the lyrics: "I woke up in the middle of the afternoon; Looked out and saw both cars were gone/ I woke up in the middle of the afternoon; Looked out and saw both cars were gone/ I got so fed up and disgusted; I threw my drink across the lawn!" 7. Sure. It's the areas that very rarely get this kind of weather I worry about. We're pretty much used to snow and cold here in MI. of course usually in more moderation, but the heavy stuff we've dealt with a lot more often than in the more Southern states. I got a new furnace just the beginning of the year. Looks like I got it just in time. Trouble is, my car needs a new thermostat and I haven't the dry, warm space to work in it or the tools anymore either. And the repair places I trust due to Covid have only the owners doing all the work, no other mechanics and no way to run me home while I wait for them to work on my car and also no way to pick me up to get it back. 8. For a state that was supposed to fall into the ocean back in '68 California seems to be holding up pretty good. Whitefang
  9. Even "pretend" cowboys croon a nice cowboy tune. And check out Ricky's fancy designed instrument. (from RIO BRAVO..'59) Whitefang
  10. I have a glass slide, but rarely carry and flop my case around anywhere, so it breaking( and it's fairly thick glass) are nil. And LARS----- What the Hell is a WOMAN tone in regards to slide? Pretty insulting when you consider....... The more well known slides were used to play what in earlier times was called "bottle neck" guitar, and of course, that was played by using the necks of wine bottles or long neck beer bottles of course made of GLASS. I think too many music store salesmen are selling everyone a bill of goods. Before you know it they'll tell you to hurry up and buy their brass slides because due to supply chain shortages the companies that make them will stop production! šŸ™„ Whitefang

  12. Earthquake in California? This is news? But yeah, seriously, hope nobody on this forum from California got hurt. Whitefang
  13. EMENEE put some out too.... And Roy did it up right. This one is made of wood! Whitefang
  14. Oh. Top Hat guitar knobs, eh? And NOT------ Whitefang
  15. That would be "Strad" short for "Stradivarius", the violin wouldn't it? And not the women's clothing brand? Whitefang
  16. "Living For The City"--Stevie Wonder Whitefang
  17. I thought of sneaking one of those out when they closed the Clark St. Cadillac main plant. But it wouldn't fit inside my coat. LARS: I used the Gibson cream polish until it ran out. I had trouble locating another container of it so I now use the Martin polish in a little spray bottle. Works good enough. Whitefang
  18. I've been going through my library. Both CD and vinyl. Currently listening to..... w From '71. Well worn and sounds like it. Never had a CD reissue. One favorite track.... Whitefang
  19. "Suffragette City"--David Bowie Whitefang
  20. Well, I mentioned you should ask Wendy(concerning the Bach tunings thing) and you asked if you should know Wendy, leading me to think you didn't know I meant Wendy Carlos, who put out the CD I brought up. Which would be the only thing I thought you missed. Whitefang
  21. I just threw that in for a gag. When finding that LP at a thrift store some years back I was amused at the use of "base" to describe the instrument, in this case not really a "bass" guitar, as that's listed just below it. Also notice "as base guitar" is in parentheses, just after listing Nokie Edwards as playing lead guitar. I always said I wanted to be a garbage man when I grew up so I would only have to work on Thursdays. Whitefang
