I've received all manner of junk(and not so "junk") in the mail in envelopes marked, "Free gift inside". Several pounds of address labels, And so far a dozen and a half 2023 calendars. Dream catchers, key chains, rosaries, calculators, Enough ball point ink pens to supply a high school, two tote bags full of tote bags. All within the last four years. Some I use(like the ink pens) And some I've donated(like the rosaries to a nearby nursing home). I tell folks that I get all this stuff in envelopes with "free gift inside" on the envelope. I know they're hoping they'll guilt me into sending them money, but if I do that, the "gift" is no longer "free". So I'm keeping them honest. Whitefang

Didn't you just repeat my response to your post of yesterday? Well...... "Tennessee"--Charlie Daniels Band Whitefang

In desperation a man asked a friend where he could "get some". His friend scribbled an address on a piece of paper and said, "I guarantee this place." So the man beat a hasty retreat to the address and knocked on the door. A gruff voice asked, "Whaddya want?" and the man said, "I wanna get screwed." So the gruff voice told him, "Just slip $50.00 under the door." The man did as asked and stood there waiting. After five minutes passed with no response he banged on the door again. And again a gruff voice asked, "Whaddya want?" And the man answered, "I said I want to get screwed!" And the gruff voice then asked, "What! Again?" Whitefang

I still use the one I made in Leather crafting class in high school. Whenever I use one that is. I've stopped using a strap because there's really never any need for me to stand up while playing, And over the years my added girth makes it look like I'm playing a Guitarron. Whitefang

Really gear, the Chuck Berry recording was called just "Memphis" too. And I'm not sure The Beatles ever covered it. But so........ "All The Way From Memphis"--Mott The Hoople Whitefang

This reminds me of something my oldest daughter did that made me proud.... And this was several years ago..... She was trying to enjoy a few drinks with some friends in a bar and some "loser"( as she put it) kept trying to hit on her. She did make some small talk to be polite, but also kept calling him "Tommy". At one point he got a bit upset and said, "My name isn't "Tommy", it's Dave. Why do you keep calling me "Tommy"? And she told him she just assumed it was his name as it was printed in big letters on the front of his T-shirt. He laughed and told her, "No. That stands for Tommy Hilfiger. You know, the fashion designer?" She acted impressed saying, "You mean you know a famous fashion designer well enough to borrow his clothes?" He laughed and said, "No. I bought this T-shirt. I paid THIRTY BUCKS for it!" She gave him a puzzled look and asked, "You mean you paid that much money for a shirt with somebody else's name on it? What are you..... some kind of moron?" He wound up calling her a b!tch and stalked off. Whitefang

And also remember when Cadillac was one of the few luxury cars that came with AM/FM stereo 8-track players as standard equipment. I started working for Cadillac in Nov. '71 and my job was across from the paint repair line and the foremen got mad at me fro bringing in my 8-track tapes to play in one of the cars at lunchtime. Whitefang

But Yamaha introduced their "silent" guitar around 2000-2001. And it was around that time I saw someone play one in a trio performing at a Canadian casino. Whitefang

Sure. It isn't nice when your wallet is completely empty. But y'know, I do need a new wallet. Problem is, that everyone I've seen so far no longer has those clear vinyl(or whatever) sleeves for photographs. I guess they figure EVERYBODY is dumb enough to put ALL their sentimental photos on some friggin' phone. Whitefang

What visual entertainment are you watching recently?
Whitefang replied to Mr. Gibson's topic in The Gibson Lounge
Yeah. I guess that was his Alfred Hitchcock moment. We first got cable TV around '81 or so and a lot of those flicks were hitting HBO and the other premium stations. My kids taped most of them(VHS player/recorders hitting the market at the same time) and watched them so much they could recite the dialog by heart along with the actors on the tape. "Sixteen Candles" was another one they wore out. I don't think I've ever seen a Molly Ringwald where she didn't cry over something not that important. Whitefang -

I once had a '67 Plymouth Belvedere. And phone numbers in my town used to start with either Warwick or Dunkirk. I remember the one when I was really young. WA8-0688. And speaking of cars; You're getting old when you remember your Grandmother's Henry J. Whitefang

What the government gives PBS and NPR is a mere pittance compared to how much federal funding goes to other federal funded projects. Some of them worthwhile and others some senator's or congressman's pork barrel. The rest of their operating revenue comes from donations gathered from their seemingly never ending pledge drives. And they're clever enough to schedule the really interesting stuff during those times. Whitefang -
Fitting that when you buy the Gibson wallet it'll be empty. Just like any other wallet after you buy any Gibson guitar these days. Whitefang

I never heard of the pencil in the nut slots thing. I'll have to give it a try. And I forgot to mention that before I treat the fret board with the lemon oil I give it a good going over with wood cleaner. Whitefang

What's funny to me is I remember an interview with Jagger back around the late '70's in which he sounded off about old rock stars still trying to do their thing after it was clear they were past their prime. I remember him clearly stating.... "I can't see myself still shaking my bum singing "Satisfaction" when I'm 40. By then I should just hang it up and enjoy my retirement." But we wound up seeing him shake his pruny, bony a-ss and singing "Satisfaction" . Never too late for a debut. And at least we won't have to keep putting up with news about your latest tour 50 years from now. Unless along the way a good taxidermist is found. Whitefang
