  1. I see. Unlucky! Yes I am aware of stainless grades. In the aircraft industry, it always used to be referred to as 'corrosion resistant' for accuracy. Never stainless. Salt air too eh? I hope you dont have any aluminum hardwear then.
  2. But are your uncoated strings stainless steel as the Polywebs are?
  3. I get that. When I was a kid and looked at trees. all I could see were catapults ;)
  4. Really, I think Scottish artists are 2nd to no one. a few examples to make the point: John Martyn Ian Anderson Maggie Bell (& Stone The Crows) Jack Bruce Bert Jansch Mark Knopfler / Dave Knopfler (Dire Straits)
  5. Rubber 'beer' washers (Fender) are my preferred strap keep but then you cant remove the strap. Not a problem until transporting in a bespoke case. Because they wont fit inside attached. My new Heistercamp strap meant looking for strap locks again. D'addario said that if you forget your 'lock' strap, the pins would still accept a regular strap. While this is true, the strap with locks attached wont fit other guitar pins, so you are stuck with using it on the same guitar. Neither do they sell separate strap pins for that purpose. I would rather not buy a whole new set just for a coupe of Daddario pins. Larry, it looks as if your locks are perfectly good. They are likely made of recycled alloys but that is entirely fit for purpose.
  6. After entirely giving up on straplocks (in favour of other methods) I recently tred some Daddario one. Yes the do protrude less but they still feel slightly weird.
  7. Dont forget caber tossing. No other people in the world could ever have conceived of that sport, er.. passtime,.. um.. activity! BTW Wild Turkey. I tried this when I was on my sojourn in USA. It might be the least pleasant experience of the whole 8 months.
  8. While I admire TV Yellow and Goldtop finishes, I cant imagine me using one. It would be like wearing the wrong outfit somehow.
  9. I missed that one. I've never heard one close up but I'm amazed at the the rich tone that they produce.
  10. Hopefully Gibson will expand those range of finishes in the fullness of time. Good to hear that your local stockist is back with Gibson again.
  11. I opted for Hummingbird & D35, though in reality I only need one steel string acoustic.
  12. wow, quite a list of guitars. I have to agree with the consensus here and say play some guitars now. I wouldnt worry too much about what will sound best with your amp, because they they should all sound great, though of course different.
  13. I like the look of lot 15, the 40s Gretch archtop. Though it wouldnt have a truss rod of course.
  14. I'm glad for you Rabs, but I cant help but join the chorus on this one. Be careful. I worked in a machine shop for 13 years. That bandsaw pic sent a shudder down my spine when I saw it. In my 30s I was using one like it to cut an odd shaped bit of aluminium extrusion. With one hand on the workpiece (to keep it from juddering - big mistake) and another using the push stick. The blade grabbed the workpiece and flipped it over causing a crush injury on one of my fingers. Compound fracture of the finger end. Couldnt play for about 10 months. I wasnt sure it I would ever play again for a while. I still have an odd shaped finger but I am so glad it works!
  15. I'm not going to disagree with you Big Bill, but I have heard advice to the contrary when using polywebs. Its well known than Scott Grove has acidic skin and uses Polywebs also. If you have acidic skin, washing them wont help much. More than that, wiping the strings will abrade the coating. He pings (plucks) the strings hard to 'clean' them (though not on this vid link). Tekboy: I often use polywebs because they last well, but prefer the sound of uncoated strings. I dont find a huge difference, but its there. Mr Grove also prefers the sound of uncoated strings. BTW though the coating is only on the wound strings, the unwound strings are stainless steel and so still corrosion resistant.
  16. Right. That is my concern, that stuff will become screwed. Good to know it worked out for you. I have Photoshop & Premier Elements 13, which is intended to remain of this PC as I dont want anymore Adobe upgrades. I got Fishman tripleplay last December and it has never worked adequately. An expensive mistake. Though its claimed to work with win7, the necessary 3rd party softwares dont work; so very misleading. I was going to try using it again on Win 10.
  17. Thanks for that. I have had it in mind to buy another laptop, and leave win7 on here. But this gives me the choice I thought had expired. hmmm... decisions
  18. Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (10-46) D'Addario: EXL110 (10-46) are about the same. Dont care for the packaging.
  19. Neck dive: I've just got a heavy 3" Heistercamp strap. Initially I was disappointed because its uncomfortable (very thick and very hard) and unsuitable for the guitar I bought it for. However I tried it on my Ric 650, which neck dives. The suede backing on the wide surface solves the neck dive surprisingly effectively.
  20. I would love to try one. The specs are very attractive to me and I think they look terrific. The 43 neck is wide enough so it seems a good playing surface.
  21. Yes, I would only ever use bare fingers on nylon. It really the steel strung flat top I'm considering for this. I use all 4 fingers to pick with.
  22. Most of the time I have to, because my nails break easily. My nails get worse the older I get. I used to build them up with varnish and tissue paper, but it just occurred to me to try fingerpicks again. There are new ones out there. I will try the Dunlop brass 20s and see how they feel. I have used the clear ones (but the pictured ones here look a different design). Propik Freedom Tone is noted. Thanks. Someone on The Fretboard forum suggested these too. The perfecttouch set would be the last option . They look interesting and great quality, but I wouldn't want to order the wrong size or type and have to re-order more at $50 a set. Thanks for the responses guys. Very helpful!
  23. tried posting a vimeo vid here. Cant get the image to display / embed ?! This is the link though...
