The fact is that the lockdown significantly slowed infection... that is not even debatable. The next thing is that the vaccine is no longer experimental. There are literally hundreds of millions of administered vaccines, and the data confirms the vaccine's reported efficiency. The lockdown was not about you or my brother-in-law. It was about responsible behavior and doing the best we could to prevent the spread, not just to ourselves, but to others. In my area that was saturated with COVID (the highest reported cases per capita the country) mostly because people ignored recommendations, those who didn't get it were locked down and minimized their exposure. And now that my wife and I have been vaccinated, we feel the same freedom you do. It is absolutely untrue and irresponsible to say that the lockdown didn't slow infection rates. My apologies to Sgt. if this thread gets shutdown. Don't apologize.... you have your opinion, and I have mine. I suggest the vaccine IS experimental.... until the FDA 'approves' it.....(which means, by definition, the trials haven't been completed. It may be effective, and the side effects may be worth the risk.... I believe that's a personal choice......I don't get the pneumonia vaccine either....I know it's approved, and probably effective....but I choose to not get it....just like I choose to avoid the annual flu shots. Of course I also avoided getting the shingles vaccine....and shingles damn near killed me..... so as soon as my eye specialist said I could get the shingles shots, I did....my choice. Isn't it funny that the actual death rate is the US, (and much of the rest of the world) really hasn't changed much? Makes me wonder if the folks who 'died from CORONA' were gonna die anyway? Just a thought.

Since I don't have too many of the other 'factors' (age is about it) if I get COVID again, I'll do my best to weather it like I did the first time....I'll tell you for sure....I'd rather have COVID ten times than to ever get shingles again even once! Yeah.... well...I'm in my 70's.... and there are people with ailments a LOT worse than mine. My best friend in the world, (since we were about 12), got diabetes, went 100% blind, and lost all feeling in his feet and hands, (he passed away last October). I asked him many years ago if it was a real bummer to be blind....he said it wasn't as bad as not being able to play guitar anymore. So....here I am.... can't see well....but...still alive and can still play guitar okay, (some say I never could play very well).

The first one I felt a little poo—ey, and a day after the second one I felt like hammered dog s-hit for about half a day. Ok, thanks. Deb felt bad from both but the 2nd was worst she claimed. I had no reactions from either, It was like getting the flu shot for me. Now the pneumonia shot they give you later in life is pretty sore for me. I get very sore at the shot sight for about 3 days. Yeah, you should have no problems flying.
Digger
I had AstraZenekca and it knocked me on my bum for the whole of the next day. My usual aches and pains intensified a lot that day but back to normal after that. A small price to pay! She was in constant misery every day for a year. I was told since I never had the chicken pox that I could not get it? Guess they were right as before she knew what they were, she kept asking me to look at them to see what they were. I was touching them rubbing them, Never got them. Although Covid can and has killed millions, I think the older folks or senior citizens are mostly at risk. Younger people seem to mostly shake it off. Here, most of the older folks have been vaccinated already.

My doctors said about 4% of people never lose the neuropathy pain...so I guess I'm one of the 4%. On top of that, the vision loss is permanent....so Shingles kicked my butt. COVID was tough....but when it was done (about 10 days) I'm good as new! I have all my charts posted on FaceBook, (about 400 of 'em), and the newer entries are mostly 2 pages....because I can't read the smaller print. There are folks my age with worse ailments....so I ain't complaining, (after writing an entire post complaining!).

And from what I can find out, people who've had chicken pox as kids are more at risk of getting shingles later in life. Both, I understand, are caused from the same virus. I had the chicken pox when I was six, and now 64 years later, still haven't had shingles(knock wood!) I'll tell ya, when I go next month for my 2nd vaccine shot, I'll check into that shingles vaccine. Whitefang

If you've had chicken Pox, the virus still lives in you.... when you get older, and your immune system gets weaker, or stressed (or both) the virus can flare up again in the form of shingles. So, if you've had chicken pox, you're at risk to get shingles.... someone with shingles can give a non-chicken pox person Chicken Pox, but can't give them shingles.

I don't pretend to be 'tough' (I'm no longer in 7th grade), I just said I don't have the other factors that cause so much problem with the COVID virus, such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, obesity, and such....I only have age. I got it.... and got over it.... I have natural antibodies now, so there is not scientific reason for me to get the vaccine. There is also no scientific reason for you to fear me because I refuse to get vaccinated. I won't tell you to not get vaccinated....that's YOUR call...don't tell me to get vaccinated...that's MY call. I suggest my head is where it's always been.... I do NOT take things our government say as gospel, (you have to recognize our government drafted me, sent me to Vietnam, then sprayed me with Agent Orange...that has killed WAY more of us than Charlie ever did!)...so you'll have to excuse me if I'm somewhat skeptical.
