A delightful discovery

Okay.

So I have three dogs.
And they get out and run around in the rain and the dirt and the mud, and we will often use a waterless dog shampoo (a foam stuff, pleasant smelling, mild) spritzed onto a damp terrycloth towel, to wipe them off when they come in.

It leaves them refreshed and delightfully clean and dry when the wiping-down is all done.

The other day I inherited a black padded canvass gig bag (in all my guitar selling and trading) and it was a dusty, rough-looking mess.
I mean, it looked bad.
And the guy who had it for the past year chain-smoked unfiltered Marlboros.
So it had that "just got in from a gig at the Long Branch" aroma to it.
I almost threw it away.

But something caused me to ponder the dog shampoo product, and how it might make the canvass gig back worth recovering.
Sure enough.
I spritzed that foamy stuff onto a damp terrycloth towel, and scrubbed the gig bag down.
Wiped it down really good.
And I set it into a sunny room to dry for a day or so.
(And I threw the terrycloth towel into the washing machine with some other car towels. It was rude-looking.)

Don't you know that the darned gig bag is like brand new?
And it smells and feels great.

Score:
Me: 1
Funk and dust: 0

Just passing it on.
I'm gonna shut up now.
☹️

That is wonderful Sparky. You know, that gives me an idea, since gig bags are cheaper than cases, I should get a few for my Epiphones since they are stingy and never give you a case. Even my son, bought a Epiphone Custom (I forgot the other word?) Pelham Blue new for $900.00 he said and No Case! That isn't right.

Wow.  Even my old FT-145 came with what can only be called a case in the academic sense.  It was shaped like the guitar, had a hinged top and plastic handle.  But was made of some paper based material and lined with red paper.  Probably cost Epiphone less than a dollar to make.    So it seems your son wound up in better shape.  [wink]

And I had no idea Marlboro made a non-filter cigarette.  I smoked that brand for years and never saw them in the places I bought them.

I got a couple of gig bags a couple of years back from a fellow I know who imports MIJ guitars. They are useful for storing guitars in closet/wardrobes.

One is branded 'History' and the other 'CoolZ'. Those brands are Japanese domestic market only that Fujigen make (I got a CoolZ guitar from him too).

I still prefer cases for transport though.

I'm pretty sure he tears the filters off to improve the taste.

Depends on the model - my Epi Lucille came with a case.

So that's an Epiphone case huh? I wondered if they actually existed? I bought 3 Epiphone's, None came with a case.  I have the Rivera, a Casino and a Standard. My son bought their Custom Pro Epiphone and it never came with one. I'm wondering if the guitar shops keep them and lie to you and say, "It never came with one."m

You can’t stick stickers on a gig bag. I guess you can, but I don’t think they will stick to good.

Chief,

Perhaps you should contact our Grand-daughter. She does Sticker Consulting, when she's not playing "Roblox" on her tablet.

"Sticker Consulting"?  \:D/

Does one need to take some kind of course for that, or is it on the job training?  [wink]

Looks like my daughters missed their calling!

They used to have PHOTO BINDERS full of 'em!   [biggrin]

Whitefang,

Our twelve-year-old Grand-daughter don't need to take no stinkin' courses!

She has a God-given talent for putting stickers on things, like, for instance, her Squier Mustang Blue with Sparkles electric guitar.

Currently in serious negotiations with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame regarding donating it when there is no more room on it for even one more sticker.

If anyone would know about putting stickers on a Gig Bag, it's no doubt her.
