"As of today the zero tolerance policy is in effect.

You will be banned if you break any of the rules. This is now to the point where I am getting 3 complaints a day because of members on this forums. This will stop now or we will be forced to close down sections of the forums.

Thank you.

Shadow."

Just sayin'... if you haven't noticed the post. Would hate to see an area shut down as opposed to just dealing with the offenders.

But that's only my opinion.

I agree, ChanMan. Some of the cowboys here need to cool their heels a bit and calm down. If this board disappears, I'll find somewhere else to as I'm not going back to the LP board to answer another 10,000 questions about serial numbers and if some guitar on Ebay is a fake or not. They may be Gibson guitars, but they're still just planks of wood with strings and pickups in them and there's only so much you can say about them until you get to a silly level of minutiae.

I don't get it. Short of threatening another person, why do people get so worked up over disagreements that they complain to the mods?

Aren't most of us adults? Shouldn't we be able to handle another person disagreeing with us and just move on?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been around forums & chat rooms long enough to know that this too shall pass. The general "mood" of any group of people will ebb & flow from day to day. You deal with it in real life. Why do you complain about it on cyberspace?

That may not be the issue at all, Wicked1. There was a rather objectionable Disney pic posted yesterday. That type of thing cannot be, and should not be, tolerated.

I'm not on a moral soap box. I just want to see folks act more responsibly. This is a public forum. Don't do anything here you wouldn't do in your front yard.

Well...

I'll say it again, I dislike seeing nastiness among people I'd bet would be darned good neighbors if they lived next door to each other, politics aside.

Here's a fun one - former US Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle wrote a note on Senate stationery to my wife praising her Korean food as the best he's enjoyed anywhere. It hangs on the wall in our kitchen.

And he's quite aware she was a GOP county party chairman. (She has been, btw, an exceptional cook.)

He used to refer to us as South Dakota's "political odd couple." Actually that's him and former GOP Gov. Bill Janklow, but we won't go there.

One can break bread and find points of great concurrence and even strong personal friendship with those one disagrees with on national political issues.

In fact, I find that far easier in ways than imagining myself playing guitar behind a rapper.

Seriously, I think there are many political issues in Anglophone nations and others that might have citizens on this forum that very seriously affect musicians at various levels specifically as musicians. I think it may be interesting to see how frequently we agree.

I didn't complain to the mods either. When I was a mod at a MUCH bigger board community than this, the people who complained to me actually got on my nerves because at least half of the time it was because they didn't like somebody's opinion, not that the person who they were complaining about broke any rules. But, since I was a mod, I also understand where Shadow is coming from - who needs the hassle? It's a corporate web site put up by Gibson guitars and I'm sure they wouldn't like potential business partners coming here and seeing some of the BS that goes on, it'd be embarrassing.

This isn't the wild west, it's a moderated, corporate web site and will continue to exist only if Gibson feels that it helps them sell more products. If they decide that this board no longer serves that purpose or worse - is counterproductive - they're going to shut it down and that's all there will be to that. And don't think for a minute that 20 or so people who were regulars here complaining about it will get it turned back on either.

It seems to me, especially the last few days, that some of the trolls are working overtime to get the Lounge shut down. That would be a pity, IMO.

Hate to say it, but I'd rather they just ban the offending parties than shut the whole thing down.

I didn't see the objectionable picture. (Worked Sunday night, slept all day Monday). And I totally get what you're saying. There are things that are against the law that should not be tolerated--child porn, personal threats, etc.

I wasn't trying to accuse anyone of "going to the mods" either. I'm just saying I don't understand why people can't act like adults even when they disagree. I've been in that position myself where people come complaining to you just because they don't like a person.

I *know* all of us have friends or acquaintances that we don't hate who disagree with us on certain issues. If we can handle that face-to-face, why can't we deal with it online? That's all I'm saying....

You don't know the discussions I have with my neighbors!!! LOL

That was the problem I forsaw (if that's a word?) with the Complaint policy. I knew it would become an issue with the mods having to sift through a pile of complaints trying to determine what was legitimate and what was someone just trying to whine or get back at another poster.

Regarding the objectionalble Disney picture, I might be wrong but wasn't that posted by one of our moral Christians? =P~

That was pretty much the way I saw it as well. I would much rather see the bar set and any offenders promptly taken care of.

As far as who posted it, I think that is irrelevant. The fact that some one DID post it is quite germane. Doesn't matter what one's politics or religion is... if one simply can not obey the rules, one should leave. If one does not have the honor to do so, then one should be assisted.

Again, only my opinion.

That Disney thread was obviously removed for a reason. Forum rule number 2:

Do not post anything that is considered pornographic, obscene, or contains excessive reference to violence and/or explicit sexual acts. This includes representational artwork as well as photographic or video media and includes linking directly to such content from the Forum.

I don't know either ma'am, but some guys in here certainly can't take anyone just liking something they don't or not liking something they do. They are just big babies that have to start bullying anyone that doesnt comply, and that has to stop.

The mods are here to protect us from the right wing hate speech. If the superstitous' date=' flat earth, right wing haters could get with the program, there would be happiness and love in the forum. Just sayin'[/quote']
