Thundergod
I aint telling :- By the way, we should have a poll about this, who thinks it's better to strat with a strater pack and who thinks it's better to start with the guitar of your dreams. And while we are at it, who thinks starter packs are a waste of money and just another excuse for makers to make a little more $

bonzoboy
Eppy Casinos and SGs are a good choice and not too expensive the G400 Custom is an exceptional guitar and as someone stated a few posts back the Casino can be played acoustically.I have a MIM Strat I paid $290 for and it's a great guitar also. You can pick up pretty decent new and used amps for$100-$200 also such as Vox Pathfinder 15R and some of their lower wattage modeling amps. The better the guitar you learn on the more inspired you'll be. But if you don't buy the crap first, then you have no way of knowing how nice a Les Paul, for instance, really is. It took me 20 years get my Gibson. I played a lot of crap during those 20 years. During those 20 years, I played on and off. I never fell in love with my guitar. Now I play every day...without fail. It might be 20 minutes in front of the TV unplugged. Or it might be 2 hours in the basement with the amp. I've now got to the point where I doesn't feel right not to play when I have the down time. I give most of the credit to the LP. It just feels great to have it in my hands.
Thundergod
Epi G400 guitars are a good option (thanks bonzoboy for bringing them into the thread). I used to own one (worn brown finish) and it was a great guitar, well worth the price and more.

NeoConMan
I'm serious. Less than perfect gear can be a real handicap. I quit screwing around in 1993 and bought my first REAL American guitars. After years of cheapo, used, imported, laughable junk and one decent Kramer I finally spent the $$$$. Got myself an American Standard Strat in Tobacco Burst and a Les Paul Standard in Ebony. Never looked back. Being a single man, I could do such things.... As for the original poster (Welcome, by the way!) I get the feeling his intentions are somewhat different here. That would be a subtle understatement for those of you hip to the charade. Same old game, 10th inning...

RichCI
I'm serious.Less than perfect gear can be a real handicap. I agree to an extent but I don't one needs to lay out big money for a good quality guitar to start with. There are a lot more options for great value guitars that aren't crap that weren't around when I started out. Today, if you spend three or four hundred dollars on a guitar, you can buy yourself an instrument that'll last a few years or even longer before you start to feel like you really need to upgrade.
