ibis
I've just taken the scratch plate off my R7 Gold Top. I'm thinking its less country, more classic rock in the spirit of Duane Allman/Snowy White. I think I like it (her?) undressed. Before: Whats your views on scratch plates? Do you like yours naked or dressed?
ChanMan
For me it depends on the guitar itself. Your Gold Top looks great with no pickguard! I don't think My DB would look good with the pickguard... I'd hate to cover up that beautiful wood And the pick guard just can't be big enough for the Gecko.... ;)
Gutch220
I leave them on
Gibson CS
I leave them off... Too beautiful to cover up. Looks more rock n' roll.
Silverbursted
Silverburst - No pick guard (too beautiful to cover) Goldtop - With pick guard (to be historically correct) And I agree with Chanman, I don't think there is a large enough pick guard for the Gecko. Thundergod
It will sound strange but i find natural, quilt, and flame tops need the pickguard, and solid colors dont. Gues Im the only one.
daveinspain
I like the classic look of the pickguard not to mention it protects your guitar at the most likely spot where it could get damaged over the years with normal play. Thats what it was made for right? I like the look of a highly figured guitar without a pickguard. A guitar with a beautiful paint job, as in a special color or burst looks better, more modern, without a pickguard. It comes down to personal preference and if you want to protect the guitar from years of being thrashed by a pic....

Gibson CS
always gotta have a pickgaurd i guess you are either on the jimmy page side( pickgaurd) or on the slash side (no pickgaurd) OH LORD i would hate to start that again !!! haha
elvendio
I would say it depends on the pic guard. I got a custome one made for my robot here. http://bobbyleesignatureseries.com/
Tom99SS
Agree with Thunfergod, but go a step further. I put mine on as when I see a Les Paul in my head I always see the pickguard on no matter what color is it.
Thundergod
you are right tom... without one they just seem generic... with the pickguard on, well they look like a good classic rock machine
GuitarJunkie
Solid color (Gold, Ebony, etc.)... On. Wood (especially flame or quilt)... Off.
Geetar_Axl
Damn I get a Slash vibe from your naked GT, I keep getting tempted to buy a Faded Tobacco Burst (well, turns out photos arent doing them justise enough) and other colours...the naked GT one too now.. epinder
Damn nice looking guitar. I prefer the look of a Goldtop with pickguard on. It looks complete.
Aaresz
you are right tom... without one they just seem generic... with the pickguard on' date=' well they look like a good classic rock machine[/quote'] I couldn't agree more. Though I could not bring myself to drill holes. I also went with one of Bobbi Lee's custom designs.
RichCI
I like LPs with the pickguard left on; I think it really adds a nice touch to the overall design of the guitar.
