NeoConMan
Monday is not a holiday in the USA. We've become so secular and politically correct that all references to Christian holidays are ill-received.

FirstMeasure
Monday is not a holiday in the USA. We just celebrate it on Sunday, it's called Easter, they simply celebrate it on Monday in the UK, for whatever reason.

I see this one heading the same way as the MLK thread that everybody around the world thought was a great observation of American/business culture - except the Americans who got all pissy and butt-hurt..... FirstMeasure
Actually, I wonder now, is Easter Sunday and Easter Monday the same holiday observed on different days, or does the UK celebrate Easter Two Days In A Row?

Nick Beach
Monday is not a holiday in the USA. We've become so secular and politically correct that all references to Christian holidays are ill-received. Everyone gets off Christmas. Is the birth of Jesus not considered a Christian holiday anymore? For the record here in NC good friday (today) is a holiday, so all the state employees get off. NeoConMan
Everyone gets off Christmas. Is the birth of Jesus not considered a Christian holiday anymore? Hah! You tell me.... All the advertisements from all the stores who want your money make all sorts of references to "the holidays" and such without ever uttering or printing the word "Christmas" anywhere. Staff can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore. Look for it this year. Everybody's off, and will gladly take long vacations while expecting to be paid, but do they actually observe the Christmas holiday? I think the Jews are the last ones to still give their holiday much regard.
Californiaman
Today in America, Wall Street is closed in observance of Good Friday. A solemn day indeed. The day they beat him for the iniquities of all mankind. The day they mocked, ridiculed and spat in his face. The day they hung a crown of thorns on his head. The day they made him march through the crowded streets carrying his own cross. The day they took his hands and feet and nailed him to that very same cross. The day he died for the sins of all mankind. Jesus, the son of God. The perfect sacrifice. No. Monday is not a holiday here in the states.

NeoConMan
Would you piss all over the birthday cake at a child's party if you didn't like their activities? Or would you just quietly leave for something more suited to your liking? Nobody says you have to stay and drink the Kool-Aid. THAT is what it's all about, and you benefit everyday from the better nature of those who DO believe. Hate it all you want - somewhere else.
