What strings work best for a SG?

The title says it all. I've tried Ernie Ball, they never lasted two weeks, and Gibson strings. Gibson strings have lasted me a long time. What other brands out there are really good?

--The thing about Ernie Ball strings, 1, i bought them from a local pawn shop(best guitar store around here sadly) and 2 i had my string breaking problem on the stop bar tail piece at that time(which is now resolved)--

I'm on a tight budget too.

you're going to get a marshall amp of AT LEAST 100 watts eventually? Why would you EVER need more than 100 watts?

anyway, if you want strings that last, you'll have to pay for them. I'd recommend D'Daddario EXP strings or Elixir strings. These are coated and last quite a long time. Another route: get string care products like fast fret, which help protect the strings and clean them.

Now, when you say the ernie balls lasted two weeks, what do you mean? did they break after 2 weeks?

lol i don't know, 100 watts is a little bit of a dream really, 50 at least.

Yeah the strings broke after a week or two. I think it was my bridge problem i had a long time ago. I haven't tried a set of ernie balls since.

There's not a world of difference between a 50 watt and 100 watt amp' date=' half the watts does [i']not[/i] mean half the volume.

Not like i can afford either one at the moment anyways. I could be happy with my 38 watt amp if i could get the sound i want out of it.

i tried ernie ball strings once and they didn't last long for me either

so i went for elixir which was a little bit more expensive but on the other hand, they lasted months

after that i got a D'Addario set of strings and they're serving me well until now (they're very affordable, at least here in Brazil)

Wat kind and model amp do you have? Ever try pedals through the channels? They kept me from selling my fender hot rod deville 2x12 60watt tube amp.

Hmm My strings last until i can be bothered to change them, these guys who say you need new strings every week, well they obviously like all the treble of new strings, but the rounder tone of old strings is good too!

As for amps.. Get a tiny terror! and maybe a nice rotary/chorus pedal and you're sorted!

Anyone know the difference between The Ernie Ball slinkys and the Classic Ernie Ball strings? The ones that have rock n roll on the front.

Yeah, the Classic Rock strings are their pure nickel strings. As far as I know they make a pure nickel, or Classic Rock, version of all of their normal Slinky strings.

I used to use Super Slinkys and switched to Regular Slinkys. I then switched to the Classic Rock Regular Slinkys and have just recently switched back down to .09s and am using their Classic Rock Super Slinkys.

I love their Classic Rock strings, absolutely love them. I'm getting rid of my Epi G-400 SG for a Gibson SG Standard at the end of the month and the first thing I will do is to put Classic Rock Super Slinkys on it.

It' a Fender frontman reverb amp.

what watt? I have a 25r and the distortion is 300% better than my hot rod deville. great for young, hendrix,i bought a boss metal core that solved my Sabbath distortion search.

I'm pretty sure it's 38 watts. I'll have to look on the back of the amp. It sounds pretty good when i play my sg on it.

The best strings for my SG's are strings that are installed properly and in tune. Brands and their tone is as wide as the number of guitars available to use them. Gotta keep trying different ones until you find the ones you like the most.

Rewd.
