HNGD TO ME!!!

Finally got my hands on a new guitar. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on a Riviera but I bought a Sheraton! It's awesome! Never played such a beautiful guitar. But it's super duper heavy. Does anybody know how to make it lighter?

And I plan on buying a frequensator bridge from Parts is Parts. Are the string holders removable? Because in the picture it shows the holders flipped around. Here's the bridge is you don't know what I mean. (Link)

Thanks for the help guys!

Congrats on the new guitar.

To answer your question yes you can move the Frequensator and hook the short and long side how you want it. It was designed to be adjustable and you can put the long side on either the heavy or light strings to get a different tone. I have always left mine stock with the short side on the heavy strings and long side on light.

You actually brought up a good question. I know there are a few other guys that have them and wonder what difference they found, I'm sure slight, if they ever changed them around.

Why couldn't you buy a Riviera... I own a riviera with Gibson Mini Buckers... Cherry red finish.. Man, what an incredible guitar with tone to die for.. and only for 600 dollars... What year is your Sheraton ? Maybe you have a mahogany center block like I had in my Korean made 1999 Dot... No ****.. They will sometimes throw mahogany in there...

It's heavier than my junior. Well because I'm a skinny guy and I can't really support much weight, I think the sheraton is pretty heavy. But it's so fun to play and it's to beautiful to look at.

And to brianmayeux, if I found a riviera for 600 bucks I'd jump on that deal on the spot. I searched everywhere and I was stuck between the sheraton and the valensi riviera. And I got the sheraton and am very very satisfied.

I was lucky enough to buy my Riviera new for $500 with case at the local guitar shop... But thats because people in Arizona don't typically play hollow or semi hollow guitars and the Riviera had been hanging on the wall for two years...

The rivieras with the full size humbuckers would be basically the same guitar as a Sheraton or ES335... However, I bought one with the mini buckers... The sound you get from my guitar is very unique and very special... Its kind of similar to a Gretsch but not exactly... Its very warm with a hint of twang...

I love to take the Riviera to blues jams... Everyone at the jams wants to play it after hearing it...

Don't get me wrong... Sheratons are great guitars.... If you want that 335 sound...

I would personally put gibson pickups in it... But some of the stock epi pickups are good... Some are really bad...

Thanks for the acknowledgment Captain Obvious.

You're welcome. And as obvious as it may be, if you feel the weight now, at your age, add 30 years to the mix and consider how it will feel then. When your body already hurts all over, before you pick up the guitar. At least sit down to practice or rehearse. Serious advice.

HNGD to you, it's a beauty!

Really, there isn't anything you can do to make it lighter. One of the reasons I love my Casino is that it weighs somewhere around 6 pounds. The first time I picked up a Dot in a music store, I was surprised at how much it weighs.

One thing that can help (also obvious) is a soft, wide strap. I used a 3 inch cloth strap on my Fender P Bass (when I was playing bass a lot) and it helped the shoulder quite a bit. The soft cloth worked better than leather.

I've always fantasized about sticking Velcro on the back of a guitar and the front of my jacket, so I can just pick up the guitar and stick it on me, but I'll never do anything like that :-k

I hope the new axe gives you many years of pleasure.

Yes. Learn to play seated and rest the guitar on your leg.

Sitting down doesn't work for me with a Sheraton. I'm used to smaller solid bodies and can't get used to the huge body of a Sheraton. Apparently this is a common problem which is why Gibson came out with the ES-339. It looks like a 335 but is the size of a Les Paul.

Even so, I love my Sheraton II, I put GIbson pick ups on it, love the feel, craftsmanship, smell, etc. Just can't play for two hours straight.

Now Eastman makes two smaller 335 type bodies, for that very reason. Gretsch did the same, with a Jr model, but they didn't sell well.
