HNGD for me! -- updated with pics :)

I got my very first guitar today! It finally arrived from Musician's Friend about an hour ago. It's freaking beautiful. I tuned it and have been strumming the most god-awful sounds you've ever heard. I can't wait to start lessons. On the bright side, I can play the hell out of "Mary Had a Little Lamb". O:)

The serial # denotes that it is an 08 model made in Qingdao, China. That was a little disheartening, as I 've heard nothing but bad things about the guitars from that plant. But, it's the most beautiful and best sounding guitar I have ever played. Anyone here happen to have an opinion on the Chinese factory vs. the Korean?

Anyhow, this is a HUGE day for me and I really couldn't be any happier. Once I've finished terrorizing the neighbors with the racket coming from my home, I'll take a little time to get some pics posted here. Off to make some noise...

ps. (sorry) It is an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Honeyburst Plus Top

Congrats! I got my first (well, second but the other one doesn't really count since I never learned to play it). guitar about a month and a half ago. It was almost brand new... built this year at the same factory. I thought this factory was supposed to be very good.

Anyway, which guitar did you get? I got a cherry Dot and it's a pretty good looking guitar. I started lessons three weeks ago and am having a blast making lots of noise (some of it not too bad) every night. Pretty soon I will be upgrading the electrics but for now I'm getting to know the guitar.

Pretty soon you will graduate to Jingle Bells and London Bridge! O:)

Congratulations and have a blast!

First, congratulations on the guitar!

Second, you have been told misleading and IMO false info on the Quingdao plant. I have an '06 Epi SG from that plant (EE) and it's a fantastic guitar. Most everyone I have heard that has a guitar from that plant thinks the same.

I have heard no "bad things" about the plant at all. After all, it's the only Epiphone owned plant outside the US AFAIK.

So there is good reason for the high quality of guitars coming out of that factory.

Third, When are you going to post some pics so we can all see this lovely guitar of yours?

The SG/G400 I use to own may have come out of there, someone here might be able to confirm that. Mine was made in China and it was flawless and a real looker. When I sold it, the person that bought it sent me a thank you letter stating that they bought it for their daughter and they were not expecting something so well built and having a great finish.

If you are happy with it, who cares where it is built? You got yourself a good one and enjoy.

It's hard to "predict" based on country of origin. I've gotten no turkeys from Korea (I'm 7 for 7 there), and have bought 5 from China. One of the Chinese-made guitars was a bit disappointing, but my Epiphone Riviera is extremely nice.

Quing Dao is THE factory, for Epiphone, these days. That's all they build, there. So, most of what I've read,

and my (limited) experience, would indicate great quality, coming out of that factory. But, of course, there are

bound to be some "turkey's" even among the peacocks! But, I wouldn't worry, about guitars coming from that

factory, in China. It's in their and the customer's best interest, to produce the best products possible. That was

the main reason for building it...so they'd have better control over QC. I'm not sure, about this...but it seems like,

from what I've seen, that the specs are getting closer, to the originals, too. Not so "Generic," if you know what I

mean? Could be my "wishful thinking," though? LOL!

I will agree with this ONLY due to the fact that you specified "these days" since Elitists are no longer being made.

P.S. Les Paul's are so damn sexy it's almost like porn!!! I love that honeyburst!!!

Thanks for all the great comments. It sure is a relief to hear what you guys have said about the Chinese factory. I tend to put more stock in the opinions of you finely aged gentlemen in this forum. It's some of the others where I've heard the bad stuff, but I believe those tend to cater more towards some of the younger fanboy generation.

I'm loving the guitar. It plays great and sounds wonderful. I spent most of the morning getting down the intro. to Simple Man by Skynyrd. I finally have it memorized. Now the hard part is making the transition between the four chords sound smooth, but it's coming along nicely.

You are wise to do so.

BTW, great looking guitar! My LP (my avatar pic) was made in Korea. And while I like it, I still like my G400 (EE) better. Just seems to be built better.
