What Amp Setup Do You Use & What Style of Music?

I know there's an older thread on Best Amp/Guitars but I'm curious what amps everyone is using and what style of music do you play? Photos too please?

I play rock, hard rock, metal for the most part.

I'm currently using a Behringer GMX 212 Modeling Amp, 100 watts stereo into two 12" speakers, and I have to say that for the money it kicks *ss!

GREAT sound out of it and pretty loud!

I don't use any "pedals" so to speak, I have the midi board that goes with the amp, but only use a little reverb and sometimes the chorus FX (although the amp has 100 built in effects). BUT I have like 4 completely different amp settings (voicings) at the touch of a footswitch, not to mention channel switching and volume pedal, which makes it pretty versatile.

I have a Peavey Classic 50 4/10. I play Psychobilly, Rockabilly, Punk, blues and a little Jazz. It works pretty well, and has a great warm tube sound at a fraction of the prices that Fender is selling their 59' Bassman RI at. It not only blew Fender Hot DeVilles out of the water (main competitor at price) but other Fender Amps I tried out like the aforemetioned Bassman but also Vox's I've tried out like the AC30 (IMO). The thing is built like a tank it was made in 1992 and sounds great, the tolex is falling apart but who really gives a f$%# about that?

Only downside is that its heavy as sh@#, weighing 70lbs, and I've always lived on a 2nd floor so... that is sometimes a pain.

The thing has been played through a sand storm, a rain storm, intense desert heat 120 degrees, dropped, kicked over, jumped offa. The thing takes whatever you can throw at it and says "thats the best you can do?"

A list of my gear is in my Sig. I mostly play covers of 60's, 70's & 80's (rock, hard rock, & some metal) Definitions of genres of music has sort of changed over the years. My Marshall has 3 channels clean, crunch & super lead all controlled by a 5 button foot switch.

play classic rock, alternating, hard rock , a lot of originals. Some hard, some soft, some in between.

Since 2004 I've been using a Vox ad30vt. Last year I built a 2x12 cab for it, and added a external cab jack. Killer tone, or should I say tones. I tried every modeling amp in GC and this was by far my favorite. Suits me perfectly. Couldn't imagine not having it.This is the only pic I seem to have of it, behind me .......

I'm a classic hard rock player, which means that my tonal range is electric blues / hard rock / classic rock / classic metal. I use my H&K Edition Blue 30R (see my sig below) but I get my tones from my 2 pedals: the Crunch Box & the Luther Drive, using the clean channel of my amp. The dirty channel is not bad, it's somewhere between the Marshally crunch and the American drive sounds, but my pedals are simply far superior and versatile...

Great solid state practice amp, for anyone interested!

I was using a first edition Peavey Classic 50 watt, but I traded it and through a series of trades via Craigslist, I ended up with a Carvin X212B (X100B in 2X12 combo form). 100 watt with switch to go down to 25 watt, or 50 watt. It does EVERYTHING. I'll use a Boss DS-1 as a booster on occasion. If it's good enough for Vai and Zappa, it's good enough for me...

I keep telling myself I'll take some pics of all my gear, but I never do...

Here's a stock picture if you've never seen one before, and a bunny with a pancake on it's head.

I had one of the Carvin X100B heads and two 4x12 cabs about 10 years ago. VERY reliable setup! Sounded good and VERY LOUD! Was as good or better than the old JCM800 Marshall I traded in on it (the JCM didn't have channel switching and I needed that). I like the idea of the combo version. Need to check one out!

Zappa used the full-satck live in the 80's and Steve Vai recorded "Flex-able" with one.

I'll take some pics tonight! I promise!!!

Nowadays I play Electric Blues(light to moderate o.d.) Country(clean or light o.d.) Some Classic Hard Rock(moderate to heavy o.d.)and Boogie (light o.d.).

Since I don't gig anymore, and just practice, record, and jam with a bud or 2, I'm more than happy with the tones & volume output I get from this lil rig............

GarysCam104.jpg

I use it with my LPs (Gibson,Epi,& Agile) my MexiTele, G400,Flying-V(Gibson), & SX SJM '57 w/P-90s.......but my absolute favorite tone comes from moderately o.d.ing my Sheraton II through it..........it absolutely SINGS!!

I like pretty much all genres of music and I dabble in all of them while playing the guitar. If I'm in a Jazzy type of mood I'll play one of my big bodied guitars through either my Fender Vibroverb or my Fender Bassman. The former is a better option as the 15" driver really fleshes out those deep fat tones. When I am in a Hard Rock, Heavy sound zone it is time for the Fender Twin or the Carr Mercury. Both amps are full of gain and in the case of the Twins 100 watts, well, you can fill a stadium with dBs of guitar licks. The Epiphone BC 30 and, well really all of the Fenders are great for blues tunes. The BC 30 breaks up fast and easy on it's clean channel so it is wonderful at getting those classic rock crunchy tones..

Well, my style tends more towards blues and jazz so my setup is with a Boss OD-20 for the more serious fuzz tones and then I predominantly use the reverb in my Fender Super (have always likes Fender reverb units). Don't get much into the chorus, flanger, etc. yet, but I'm kind of a purist. :-)

Oh, and I play both my Epi Sheraton and my Strat through it.

I mainly use my Marshall DSL half stack. I ditched the Peavey Renown for a Vox Valvetronix VT-50, much more versatile for my needs. I've changed the order of my pedals since this pic. I mainly play rock and blues type stuff in my church worship band. I mainly play my LPs thru it, but I play my Strat, Sherry and Dot too.

I married a Fender Pro Jr amp chassis with a Fender Bassman 2X12 cabinet that a friend had cut down to square dimensions for a 15" speaker so I made a new speaker faceplate for 2x12s (Marslands) cut the notch in the back for the knob faceplate and cutout 2 back sections so it would be open backed not closed as it was

My pedalboard is a Ryobi drill case with thin plywood base inside and cutout foam for holding everything. The rubber feet for floor slippage screw right into the plywood in the base and secure it. The lid has removable pins for the hinges to get the lid off. Build yer own!!.

A simple amp with little to go wrong I get great tone clean and cranked for some dirt with my Dots humbucker's really clean with my G&L strat and either works well with a tube overdrive pedal giving me great tone so that Jamming friends don't hesitate to use my amp at jams sessions.

I am mostly an acoustic fingerstyle player, but I love to pull out the electric gear and crank up as much as anyone. For my fun, I play mostly blues and classic rock tunes on electric guitar. I run my Casino or Schecter C1+ through my Fender Blues Jr. I have a small collection of pedals that add some additional fun. I have an old Vox wah pedal, a Boss BD2 Blues Driver and a Fulltone FB3 Fatboost for clean to crunchy leads. My favorite pedal is probably my Boss RX20L loop station. I use it for both acoustic and electric stuff.

When I want to play blues fingerstyle, it is almost always my 1964 Gibson LG1 ladder braced blues machine I use, but I can really pick any of these three acoustics and count on having a great tone through my Genz Benz Shenendoah 200 Watt Stereo acoustic amp.
