Brian Krashpad
Last Saturday was wild. Went to church and got all my gear set up in the Fellowship Hall, along with my big bass rig I was lending our bassist, and then worked on getting the PA all connected. Two hours into that our band leader arrived and said we were playing... in the sanctuary! D'OH! So, I moved everything over to the sanctuary. Then, we're about to start practice, and our band leader says, "Brian, we have something for you." I'm totally puzzled. He gets out an Epi hardshell case and sets it on a table and says "Open it." I look at him like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? So I say, "I hope this is something you got for the church..." I open the case and it's an Epiphone Casino! The prior weekend someone had asked what my next guitar would be, and I said I hadn't bought a guitar in 2 years and wouldn't any time soon (I had tonsil/lymph cancer last year and though I have insurance, I've spent $7K out of pocket in the last 18 months), but that there was a sweet Casino on Craigslist. The nutters bought it for me! He said "It's for your birthday next month, but we thought we'd give it to you early so you could play it at Praise In The Field (our next out-of-church concert downtown in a couple weeks)!" I'm still totally flabbergasted. Seller's pics from cl:

Brian Krashpad
Thanks fellers! Sweet!! You are truly blessed man. One question what's the extra knob for? True dat! The extra knob is a master volume, like on Gretsches (only Gretsch puts it on the lower horn). However, right now the wiring is all squirrely. I'll get it sorted eventually, but it makes sound so I can work round it for now. In fact I played it again this last Friday night. I had never played an open mic before, and a kid from my church was doing a lung cancer benefit, in memory of a lady from our church who died from a lung cancer (despite never smoking and having been an Olympic-level swimmer) a couple months ago, whose funeral our church band had played at. I looked on it as the perfect opportunity to finally do a solo performance.

milod
The placement of the additional master volume may be a bit odd for the broad-brush strummer, but it looks to me to be just about perfect to crank with one's pinky finger - as Roy Buchanan and a number of other pickers have done on the Jazzmaster/Tele type setups. m

Thanks, I've been very blessed to have gotten back to be able to play and sing (to the extent you can call my vocals "singing," which is debatable, haha!). And I ended up losing about 50 pounds, so now I'm a lean mean rockin machine! I was also very fortunate to have been overweight before all this-- had I not had the weight to lose I probably would've had to have a feeding tube put in. That was something I really didn't want, so I'm happy that I avoided it. The Lord works in mysterious ways, ha!

Brian Krashpad
Thanks guys. I have it sitting on a stand here in the office so I can stare at it, haha! Or I should say "her," since I'm one of those guys who names his guitars. Under other circumstances I would've named a Casino "Cassie," for obvious reasons. But since I've already called my LP Classic that (a/k/a Cassandra, Classy Cassie), that name was right out. Since I received her on Black Saturday and first played her in public on Easter, she's "Mary," of course.
