a different L-OO

Ross Teigen, the luthier who works on my guitars, is a superb craftsman who designs and builds acoustic and electric guitars that some might call "whimsical". He's also a great fan of smallbody Gibsons, especially the L-OO. Here's his interpretation of the modern L-OO. The construction details--wood, bracing, etc--are exactly like a 1930's L-OO, since he's also a restoration specialist who is fanatical about details. He also happens to be one of the few people who can accurately replicate the Gibson sunburst.

There's just something that's a little different about this one. Can't quite put my finger on it........

Sorry Nick. I'll have to report him to the authorities.

Hehe - not the first time I see the pear-shape idea on a western. In several ways it looks okay, even intriguing to me.

R.T. seems to have the touch and must be the right guy to ask a classic Q. 'bout what I believe many of us would like to know :

How much and what kind of sound in the shoulders of acoustics ?

The tiny bottom tip is top

never change a winning horse....guitar shape is good as it is, you have a few different styles and models, if you go too far away from those existing syles, models...FAIL.

The design must be VERY VERY strong if you want to show a total new model. This is a fail in my humble opinion.

I'm sure he's an excellent craftsman. It seems well made. But design wise, it really does not appeal to me at all. I am quite the traditionalist though.

I'm a big fan of 00 and L-00 size...but this one is not in any class of body size ever created. Hope it stays at one of a kind.

I suspect the total body volume is pretty similar to that of an L-OO, perhaps with a bit more bass focus. I've got a bit more of an open mind than most here. The guitar makes me laugh, and I'd love to hear it.

But no, I'm not going to buy it. I'm a bit more of a traditionalist, except for my forays into weirdness such as the one below, which is unusual, but perfect for its intended purpose.

I really like the Savador Dali-like L-00! My only concern would be that the waist may be too narrow to play seated. Otherwise, I think it is very cool and would love to own one.

I also plead guilty to corrupting Nick and encouraging him to buy that carbon fiber beauty.

Just hang a strap on it and play comfortably in any position. I like the little smile on the builder's face, which tells me there's a bit of humor afoot in this project. He's just enjoying his craft. Good job!

But, I'm too old to stand up to play and a strap looks ridiculous on a guitar when I play it sitting down. Better to commission a Salvador Dali L-00 with a larer upper bout!
