HNGD...Yep, Another One! Now I have "Twins!"

Well, I went up to Wichita, to E.M. Shorts, to get

some (minor) work done, on another guitar...and while that was being

attended to, I decided to take a look around. Wanted to see the new '60's

Tributes, they just got in (15 of them). All, very nice, as you'd

expect, but I made the mistake of looking at another Gold Top, picking

it up, and fondling it lovingly...and noticed it has (YES)...a Stunning,

2-piece back, center seam. Looking, turned quickly into BUYING! Most of

the others, had (nice) 3-piece backs, etc. So, there was no stopping me,

when I found this beauty!

See what you think....

And, finally, "The Twins!" ('50's & 60's LP Studio Gold Tops)

Both, are amazing players, and...of course, awesome P-90 Tone.

And Yes, I am definitely "Crazy!" LOL

Cheers,

Thanks, guys! The necks on both, are Great! I've never had much, if any,

problem, switching back and forth on different neck profiles, so it's no

problem, for me, at all. They are Both excellent players, and needed NO

additional "set up," whatsoever...I did lower the action, on the bass side,

slightly, but only for "my" preferences. Intonation was perfect, and the

fingerboard is a joy, to play...love this "Pleking" stuff. ;>)

They (E.M. Shorts) still have several Gold Top's available...just in case anyone

is (still) interested. And, there were some really nice "Honeyburst,"

and "Cherry Bursts," as well. When I bought my Gold Top, yesterday, they had sold

4 already. 3 out the door, and one to be shipped. So...

Very nice Studio...so how many guitars does that bring up to now?

"2-Bits,"...so, pretty constant, number wise. I've traded ones,

I wasn't playing anymore, for ones I do play...a Lot. The trade

guitars, were NOT "Les Pauls!" (Smile)...in fact, they weren't

even Gibson's. [smile]

Arghh! I want one!!! in Goldtop!

The streaky back, reminds of the grain found in mahogany used locally compared to the grain on my Les Paul. Is Gibson using a different species or something?

Is this the second run Henry mentioned? I wonder if these are limited. They would look sweet with a bigsby!

so awesome CB.....i dont want to sound extremely stupid..but how can you tell how many pieces the back of a guitar has? or how many pieces the maple top has? Do you just have to look extremely hard for the seams?

Actually, it's pretty easy, most of the time...even with the best matches.

But, the easiest way, regarding the back, is to look at the back end/edge,

(where the strap button is)...you'll see where the seams are, pretty quickly,

that way. Of course, on guitars painted with solid colors, you can't really tell,

unless there's (sometimes) a bit of a line under the paint...usually on the

less expensive brands, or models.

Looks great, congrats! I would love to date one of your twins one day. [biggrin]

I don't know, R9...you may be a little "Rich" for their blood!

Compared to your R9 Les Paul's, these are like the "Servants' quarters," with a shiny coat of paint! ;>) [biggrin]

But, I love 'em, all the same...they "fit" me. LOL Yesterday, I played

the '60's, pretty much, all day...today, it's been the '50's version. I

(honestly) can't say which I prefer.

Two important questions have not been addressed!

1. How much did the 60's Studio Tribute cost? (what was the tag price as well).

2. Which has more sustain? The 50's or the 60's?

1. Mine was the same price, as my '50's Tribute. (*prices seem to vary, a bit, depending on dealer)

2. They have the same amount of sustain (mine do, anyway).

*Call or E-mail my dealer, E.M. Shorts (Wichita Band & Instrument Co.), for their selling price.

Order Line: 1-800-835-3006 or E-mail: wbic@wichitaband.com

(Attention, Lance, or Cody.) They do ship "International," but shipping and Customs are additional.

(And...NO, I Do Not work there, but...I Have purchased a LOT of gear, from them, over the years, even

when I lived in Los Angeles.) [thumbup]

Beautiful pair of Lesters, CB. Like twins a decade apart! [thumbup] Is the only difference between them the neck profile?

Thanks, Surfpup...Yep, that's the difference, in the models...just the neck profile. Well, and no "Orange Drop" caps, either.

But, I have to admit, the '60's versions, I've seen, besides mine

(the 15, that were hanging in my dealer's store), didn't have as

much "relicing" as the earlier '50's versions. Not sure if that's

a change in spec's, or just "luck of the draw?"

Well, the 50s models are ten years older. Ten years will do that, you know. [biggrin]

Picked up a Goldtop myself, after months of frustrated hunting for a 50's. I'll agree with the thinking of less relic work on the 60's versions. All of them I saw at Daves were about the same. BTW - they are going fast. In the 90 minutes I was at Daves, they sold all but one of their initial shipment of 6, including mine! Like yours, mine appears to be a 2 piece back, with a slightly off center seam. Not as heavily figured as yours. Would love to have twins like yours, but may have to settle for twin 60's, thinking of adding a Honeyburst, or maybe a Tribute SG.
