  1. Ozzy has been on US television quite a bit in the past 10 years or so, reality shows with wife Sharon, and another with his son. I can't understand a word he says when he's talking, but can understand him perfectly well when he is singing. It's the opposite with a lot of rock singers.
  2. Not enough strings, but those curly headstocks usually came on Mandolins.
  3. I have bought at least six guitars from Sweetwater over the last seven years, and the inspection process worked great in each case. Never saw a blemish or had any playability issues with any of them.
  4. I have a nephew who is left handed and he started to learn guitar in his late twenties or early thirties. He plays left handed. I told him perhaps it would be easier to learn right handed as the chording etc. would be done with the more dexterous hand. He said he felt the strumming and picking was harder than forming chords and playing notes so stuck with left handed playing. Ten years later or so he got into the ukulele fad and decided to learn that right handed. I think either way is fairly difficult to learn guitar so whatever way you start out and practice the most that is how you will remain most comfortable. I have to agree with RCT, that strumming and picking are very important and often not given enough attention.
  5. Guess I'm just a slimy ****** bag
  6. What do you mean by "aren't also musicians"?
  7. Chicago dog for me. Vienna all beef wiener on a steamed bun with yellow mustard, green relish, chopped onion and tomato, a slice of kosher dill pickle on top and celery salt. In Chicago it is against the law to put catsup on a hot dog, and most hot dog joints will throw you out if you ask for it. They have it on hand, but it's only for the french fries!
  8. There is an expression often used in music that "less is more". In other words don't clutter up an arrangement with a lot of unnecessary notes or fills - keep it simple and it will sound good. With these types of guitars the saying would be "less costs more". I can't understand anyone paying $6400 ($6200 for the TV yellow) for this guitar with one pickup (a P90 no less) and a wrap around bridge? Oh well, to each his own, but this would not be for me.
  9. Without photos it's hard to tell what you are describing. Take photos, put them on a free photo hosting site (like Imgr) then you can copy and paste them to this site. I have owned about 12 Gibson guitars since 1965, both acoustic and electric, and have never had the finish "flake off" as you say, nor have I had a white substance on the fretboard. Unless this is just trolling for some reason post some photos and maybe we can help you.
  10. Glad you found the black pick up covers that fit. I really didn't care for the white ones as they just looked out of place. As to the knobs I'm glad the black speed knob didn't work as if you had put those on, I would have had to report you to the mod police. I know it's your guitar and everyone says you can do whatever you want with it, but I'm sorry it is unlawful to put speed knobs on a 336! It looks great now and no further fiddling about needed. 🀩
  11. I could never understand paying a premium for a guitar just because someone famous owned it. In this case paying about 100 times as much as a regular J200 - crazy to me?
  12. There seem so be no ethics in business anymore in general, so I agree with you on that. However, since you played the guitar for three years before finding what pickups were in it, I'm guessing it sounded pretty good to you as it was? Really nice looking top by the way. I notice in your photos that you have clipped the wires so I'm thinking that you are putting different pickups in it now? What are you going with, if that is the case?
  13. Ugh, that would really bother me. In reality it probably is not a big deal - at least you can't see it when you are playing. If it really bugs you, you could put a little glue in there and clamp it down but then you could get some messy squeeze out etc. Probably best to ignore it if you can.
  14. I picked up D'Addario NS micro clip on tuner a few years ago. Somebody had a sale and I got 2 of them for about $20. They have been reliable and pretty easy to see even in bright light conditions. I'm so old I played guitar before electronic tuners existed. We used tune to the piano - which was rarely in tune itself!!
  15. Nice looking Epi. Be careful transporting it though as the case looks a bit too big and the guitar will flop around in there.
  16. Doesn't matter what type of case the guitar is stored in it should still remain about 45-50% relative humidity. Need a hygrometer to tell humidity level of the guitar - if it is too low you would need to humidify it.
  17. That is a pretty cool old dog. Bet it has some stories to tell. Maybe not as many as that accordian next it?
  18. Showtime's "Man Who Fell to Earth". Book was written back in the 50s or 60s, then David Bowie starred in a movie version in the late 70s. I am usually not a science fiction fan, but this story supposedly takes place forty years later. In the most recent episode they figured out that the key to their power source for a ship to take water back to a dying planet was sound waves from jazz improvisation.
  19. Great song Ann, I think it rings particularly true for those of us that were draft age during the Viet Nam War. WWI, WWII, and Korea may have been noble causes, but Nam our government wasn't very straightforward about. Glad you were able to write again after a dry spell - it was worth the wait.
  20. Amazing - that guitar doesn't look 7 years old leave alone 70! We can all see that it looks fantastic, and you said the neck is comfortable for you to play, so what does it sound like? Hopefully it sounds much better than the average $20 guitar 😜
  21. I'm old enough that electric guitars from my year of birth (1950) weren't very good. There may be some cool archtops from then, but the solid body electric, as we know it, hadn't been produced at that time. There are a few really good sounding acoustics from back then, but people that have them generally aren't selling, you have to be really lucky to get your hands on one that is playable and doesn't require a second mortgage on the house or a tone of repairs.
  22. I appreciate your sentiment Sgt., but "happy" isn't really something we should wish for Memorial Day. It is a day to remember those who died protecting our freedoms more of a somber mourning day. I went to the grocery Sunday and there was a young fellow bagging the groceries at the end of the check out counter I used. While he was putting my groceries into bags he asked the lady working the register "What is Memorial Day?" I found this sad as obviously our school system, and his parents weren't doing a very good job explaining why the store would be closed the next day and he would not go to school.
