  1. It's certainly not ebony because its too coarse grained. 95% sure its Rosewood.
  2. Started to watch it last night. Fell asleep. I will watch it every night now. I suffer with chronic insomnia. So... is it any good?
  3. What are the main advantages of Gibson and why you chose this particular guitar? ES-339 Studio. because of its sound, maple neck, torrified maple fretboard. simplified controls. no pickguard. 57 Classic pickups. Smaller size suits gigging. Which Gibson models and colors do you like? L5 / ES-335 / ES-339 : wine red or natural Who is your favorite musician who plays Gibson? David Hidalgo What are your associations with Gibson? This forum / I have bought 2 Gibsons from new. I'm from uk. Play in a Soul & Ska band for 20 years. Also record original songs at home and in Studios. Retired 2 years ago. Music is the most important thing I do & has been since I was 16. Also do karate (18 years), walk, swim, dance & do photography.
  4. I saw this video was available, but didnt watch because its a pedal. Maybe I should after all...
  5. Good idea. Fujigen mostly build 3 different versions of USA type models, they do it for other brands and their own FGN. From memory, the price points are roughly this: £460 basic model £750 intermediate £1,200 top spec The price differentials are significant. Gibson's Junior / Studio / Classic-Trad / Standard would work too I reckon
  6. I'm glad. 😄 Sorry if I spooked ya!
  7. Dm5av, you are evidently in turmoil still. You are are coming to terms with what the guitar is and dropping comparing it to your pre-conceived expectations. That needs to run its course. I have played neither Dove nor J200. I used to want a J200 in my youth when I was into Michael Chapman. A local player I knew also had one and it did have that low booming sound. I've carried the sound of that in my head for nearly 50 years. Is it realistic now? I dont know for sure, but I know how you feel about it.
  8. The live recordings we collected are wonderful, though the sound always feels different because of the lack of volume. I would not abuse my neighbour's peace and I dont want to destroy my ears with cranked earphones. The Dead played pretty clean, but they got the bite using volume. It would resonate through the ground and up through your spine. It made for a sort of'natural' distortion. Maybe we should hire some halls and party to cranked up live tapes.
  9. Well you could check to see if the fret lifted by pressing it down. Maybe even clamp the fret down carefully & watch to see if anymore oozes out. The account I related earlier. I didnt watch all of it & I suspect he resolved the problem somehow (with some cleaning method?). Check if you have a problem 1st. Hopefully not, but if so I will try to find that vid again. Good luck
  10. Glad to know what you are doing in the background. The mod approval idea is great; -bet it keeps you busy though!
  11. I understand the loyalty thing. Its worth being patient & forgiving usually, especially when it reinforces their bond to you. People here are being encouraged to support their local small grocery stores more as a 'thank you' when we needed them during lockdown. I tried, but last week I got overcharged at the till & didn't notice. A bottle of wine & a 4 pack of beer cost me double. I wasn't offered a till receipt. My fault for not paying attention, but it showed up on my bank statement. I wont be going back there.
  12. Sarge, your pizza has all of us drooling. I haven't eaten pizza for years (its a weight control thing) but... yeah! Want a slice or 2 now. 🍕
  13. Still my favourite player. No one else can reach quite as far inside. The Dead would likely still be my favourite band too if they were intact & current.
  14. More swimming (last 2 days in the sea) . As Cherry's guest this time at her gym. Used both indoor and outdoor pools. Finished off with the jacuzzi & shower. Its the best way to cool down. Its just been so hot lately. My son & his fiance just got a hot tub for the garden too. Slept downstairs with the air con unit on last night. Put Ry Cooder on low. Went through 5 hours worth of albums.
  15. I hope you'll be happy with it. It looks nice.
  16. Well I'm glad it came right for you in the end. We all deserve to be happy with the guitars we have. It took a long time I know. 🙂
  17. That Mockingbird is a nice looking beast. I have two guitars that I want to shift. I'd like to think I could settle for the rest, but well, y'know.
  18. It looks better now. Nice work. I like maple fingerboards. Especially wide flat ones.
  19. I dont know but I suspect regool's guitar is over oiled. I researched lifting frets a couple of days back, and a video I saw showed some frets that could not be glued into place. The reason was because under them was some green gunk. Not only was the oil partly responsible for the frets lifting, but it was preventing any glue being squeezed in. If I used any oil (and I dont), I wouldn't let it sit for any length at all. I'd smear a drop on & wipe it off again.
  20. That's the finish I like too. Congrats & welcome to the forum Jim.
  21. Whats the lettering on the tuners? It doesnt seem to be gotoh, kluson, deluxe or gibson .
  22. cesargb means pictures of the guitar. the profile, the headstock, the controls etc. More is better. A pic of whats under the TRC is helpful too
  23. I don't know what you have, but you appear to be right about the serial number. Whats the lettering on the tuners? It doesnt seem to be gotoh, kluson, deluxe or gibson
