  1. I have played a couple of Kingpins and been very impressed. That was a sensible deal. One out, one in. I have been considering doing just the same. I've identified a couple of guitars that I could part with. Its a devilishly handsome fiddle you got there Mr. S. Better looking than any Tele IMO.
  2. An untapped market! The vegan guitar (I would rather have a zero-veg guitar myself). BTW, I just read a report that states that hide glue has no cold creep. I'm not sure if its true or even possible.
  3. Not even the first responder complied! 😄 Actually you got a much better hit rate than I expected. 1/ Andres Segovia As a young boy in the 60s, I heard this wonderful music on TV. I didn't understand it, but loved it anyway. Those early impressions are still with me and they inform my playing in small way too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFnJ1APJREk 2/ Jerry Garcia The finest musical experiences I've ever had were at Grateful Dead concerts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q42PtuXslI
  4. As much as I enjoy it here, I wouldn't wanna be sat in on a committee with you fellers! 😜 One thing is certain, if any one artist was identified as Greatest of all time, it would disappoint more people than it would please.
  5. Well I am now confused. I must have been using P90s with the wrong rig, because that sounds super excellent. Better than those HBs most of the time, and where it counts too. I'm going to have to rethink P90s again. They can sound good on solidbodies. I also had turned away form black guitars. So why does that one work? I'm sure its the gold trim that sells it. The satin finish also makes a big difference. Really good choices there BD.
  6. Its only been a couple of days since they announced they were carrying Fender stuff. Well, that's all good AFAIC.
  7. Good. It still doesn't excuse the seller wanting extra for the cert. Its of no further use to him. What a nonce!
  8. I never noticed these before. They look like they should work pretty good. I'll look out for them. Cheers !
  9. No. I dont shred 🤣 ! I do have the recording. It sounds horrible. Like someone has dragged the whole of the phrasing to the right by enough BPM to make it just not fit the backing anymore. The lag first occurs at 4.45 through to 4.52 It Doesnt Matter What I Sing I should really have faded it out at 4.10 and abandoned the rest. Later recordings with thick pointy picks work just fine.
  10. Sounds like you need an SG. Never owned one, though I have always loved the looks. I do have a 339 (with 57s). Sustain? One nice thing about a semi-hollow is controlled feedback. That's plenty enough sustain for me.
  11. I knew I had entered a new life phase (in my 60s) when women seemed approachable and even to warm to me. Until the dread realisation hit home that they no longer saw me as a sexual threat 😞 . It hurts man...
  12. Make some strong coffee, sit down & check yourself out in the mirror man. 😉
  13. True, though my preferred tone was a heavy (sometimes medium) Gibson triangular black pick. I used them for at least 25 years. That only applies to electrics though. I found Blue Chip TAD40 to be a slight improvement though. Maybe 10% or 15% I reckon. I have never used picks on acoustics. Thumbpicks sometimes when my thumbnail is missing; otherwise its fingers all the way.
  14. You are the most astute fellow here rct. You may, or may not, have yet reached the critical realisation that the uk is entirely digital. The maps/atlases are wrong. There is no mainland uk. There is just empty water between Ireland and Scandinavia. We are an invention of the Irish; the product of their imagination. They desired one thing more than anything, more than happiness, money, immortality or potatoes. Tired of fighting among themselves, they desired an enduring external oppressor, and the legend of Britain was born. We all went to Hogwarts retrospectively. As soon as the Potter #1 released, we all had the update. I now have fond implanted memories of Hogwarts just like jgdm and Rabs. All 63 million of us live next door to Helen Mirren. Helen is due an upgrade BTW. She is starting to pixelate around the cheeks. Bill Nighy is almost all pixels now poor devil. Oh yes, and all the British bands you've seen are holograms too.
  15. This wont mean anything to many (so ignore it) but...My pick research and experiments concern one technique only; alternate picking (feathering, speedpicking etc). Everything else can be done with cheap thin picks. Quick alternate picking cannot because you get lag. Any deflection in a pick will translate into lag. It may not seem noticeable, and I only realised it when listening back to a recording of a solo I once made. I thought at first it was software latency, but it turned out to be physical delay. It spoilt the recording. This realisation came a few years ago, and I have spent most of that time trying to find the best pick to accommodate quick alternate picking. The pointed tips help most of all. Bevels help too, though they need not be 'handed'. Thickness is vital. The next part is just my opinion/experience and can't be verified anywhere else:Though thickness prevents pick deflection, I have recently realised something else. Pick bulk and size (mass) absorbs string vibration. This translates into smoother picking. My largest (homemade) pick is certainly the smoothest speed wise.
  16. Fine. See about lowering the bridge and setting the guitar up. Do you do this? There are plenty of online videos to show how. Otherwise, get a tech/luthier to do it for you. I've just seen pictures of your guitar on your other thread. Smart looking Goldtop!
  17. That'll sure coax you to play. Heartiest congrats sir!
  18. A bespoke case (like one supplied with guitar) will always be snug fit. I cant cant fit any guitar with strap attached into one of those. You will find aftermarket cases have more room but they need to be tried out. Don't mail order one blindly. Obviously too much room and the guitar will slide about inside and that renders it pretty much unusable. An attached strap can help steady & isolate the guitar. But straps can be of varying bulk. Headstock: You're right; this is most important. It has to be elevated & supported at the neck.
  19. I cant keep my breathing out of any acoustic recording. I once seriously considered wearing a full face motorcycle helmet to remedy that.
  20. um.... what is going on with that neck pickup?
  21. Friday On My Mind - The Easybeats possibly my favourite ever pop song. Its been covered a number of times but never equaled.
