  1. So I am working out some Christmas songs for an intimate party of family and friends. The usual suspects, Santa Clause is coming, Rudolf, Blue Christmas and Have yourself a Merry etc. I find the Hummingbird is a little too loud for a small gathering so I am using the fingers instead of the usual pick. The screws on the ceramic adjustable bridge on the guitar become extremely annoying after only a few songs. Hmm, says I, why have a never noticed this before? So being the pack rat that I am, I sprang from my couch to cure what was the matter. Away to the garage I flew like a flash, tore open the tool box and and sized up my stash. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but two miniature white rubber thingys of who's purpose was clear. I spoke not a word but went straight to my work. Thinking "Why had I not thought this before. You are such a jerk." So then in a twinkling my task was complete. My palm was now comfy after just a small tweak. They all heard me exclaim as I played though the night. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! Merry Christmas everyone. Holiday Hoser
  2. The only new Gibson I had I parked on it's stand in front of my bass players Ampeg during band practice and let the low notes shake it to it's core. Not sure if it made a difference but she sure got a ride for her money. I hear Metallica has a new whiskey called Blackened and they take the casks of whiskey and punish it with huge speakers to force the whiskey in and out of the wood of sherry barrels they use to age it so I must have been on the right track.
  3. Reminds me of the joy the first time I strummed my '64 Hummingbird. Broken in just like I like 'em!
  4. That's why your the King. Happy Christmas
  5. Try the new Santa Cruz Parabolic Tension Strings. The tension is adjusted by making the windings of a larger size wire and the core smaller. PROS Great feel and the sound is excellent. CONS kind of pricey and the string is a little harder on the finger tips But I think the volume across all the strings is worth it. Supposed to last a long time as well. About $18.00
  6. Check into something for use in a walk in humidor like a cigar store. Not cheap though.
  7. Caught a great movie last night. The story of Blaze Foley as told by his good friends Townes Van Zandt and Zee. Lots of Gibson cameo appearances and even Kris Kristofferson as Blaze's dad. Eathan Hawke directs this heartbreaker of a life of booze and the trials of a country singer.
  8. My girl Sam. Never saw an acoustic from her but this is really good!
  9. I don't like how he is eyeing that teen girl )%
  10. I use a rosewood shim under my ceramic bridge ditched the spring thing and think it translates to a fuller sound. Still love the click of the ceramic but with trial and error got it to just the right thickness so my action is perfection with great break.
  11. I could put the Elvis in the J200. Thank you, thank you very much.
  12. I always enjoy my guitar a little more after a little hemp! I had a hemp doormat but he cops confiscated it saying it was a gateway rug.
  13. Very nice Sal! Who is the good lookin' young man in the picture? HH
  14. what do you think ? Stripped down Hummingbird? Nice work Lindsay!
  15. Many nights around the campfire until the ranger tells me to go to bed.
  16. I agree Jinder, My Bird will definitely overpower my voice if I'm beating it like an orphan (what's he going to do tell his parents?) But back off just a tad and my voice fits right into the mix.
  17. Damn that's nice but I always thought they should spray a little stain on the inside so it didn't look so "new" Binding is a little bright for me as well. Nothing 50 or 60 years won't fix. congrats
  18. My uncle had an Every Brothers acoustic in the early '70s that he got from somebody who owed him money and every time I would visit him in LA I spent hours playing it. I only knew a few chords at that time but he assured me that when I was older I could take it home with me. The next summer i went to stay with him I asked him where the guitar was and he pointed to a beat up Sanger flat bottom ski boat in the garage and said "It's right there." I never really got over that guitar and it instilled a lifelong love for Gibson guitars. I've had a few new ones over the years but my '64 Bird is the love of my life and I never felt the need to get anything else after she came into my life. (Thanks Norm) The funny thing my uncle's last name was...(wait for it) Martin. My dad always said a "A boat is just a hole in the water that you pour money into."
  19. Do father and son! Always makes me think of my Dad. And my son. God, I love them both...
  20. I think the Christmas gauntlet has been thrown down by Mark and we should all record our favorites for this Xmas season. i am working on mine though they a little "spicy" I must say. we will see how long the PC youtube will take to ban them. Merry Christmas to all my forum friends! here is last year's
  21. I was just thinking to myself that my hummingbird is the perfect representation of who I am - old, beat, worn out, dried out, not the best looking, amazing tone if I get off my arse and play it, jurassic, etc. I am thrilled to have found my counterpart and hope we last 'till next Thursday. :)
  22. I'll bet that fancy bracelet makes some mighty fine scratches. Maybe he and Jane Fonda can do a Trump hating duet together.
  23. My '64 has a wider neck as well as a L5 fingerboard so you really never know what was going on on a Friday, dope smokin' afternoon.
