I voted today rather than mail in my ballot. I like to be part of it on election day, proper. I like the little sticker. Hoping my vote will be one of many in favor of dragging this redneck backwater of a state I live in into the 21ST Century.

I hope so too brother [thumbup] Thanks for making me laugh [biggrin]

A noble cause indeed!

I don't know where ya' live, but if you say it's a "redneck backwater of a state," I believe you. [thumbup]

I dropped off Mrs G's and my absentee ballots, as usual, today. She uses it because she travels a lot, I just find it more convenient than waiting in (albeit small) lines. I don't recall ever missing an election I was eligible to vote in. I don't understand the people who don't vote, but continue to b itch about things. [confused] And those local elections? They're probably as, if not more, important than a lot of the national stuff. As the old saying goes, "if you don't vote, don't b itch"! And thank you to all my fellow citizens who took the time to make their opinions known today. [thumbup] Stepping off of soapbox now. [flapper]

BTW - B itch without the space comes out as *****

I totally agree with that!

I've missed a couple of elections, for good reasons, but today there are 4 amendments to our state constitution. Most important election in many, many years so I cast mine. B)

Absolute truth. Especially as regards the local elections.

Yup, I vote early and often. Got to the polls at 7:30am. Hope my vote will help drag my State & Country back away from the clutches of socialism & entitlement. [thumbup] Jobs for all, whether you want to work or not (unless you truly cannot work due to a real mental or physical condition)! Or served you years in the salt mines already then you have contributed IMHO.

JG2, I can't tell what backwater-redneck state you are speaking of. Didn't know we even had either of those features any longer. [confused]

Our county actually had a vote several years ago as to whether we should split the county into two separate counties.

Yup. Go figure. It failed miserably.

At issue this time around is something proposed by the south Santa Barbara residents (God bless 'em for their zeal).

Anyone familiar with California knows that we do have oil in this state. In fact, here in the tiny hamlet of Orcutt, there once was the largest producing oil well called Old Maud. It was the stuff legends were made of.

Anyway, Proposition P was written by the southerners and is designed to kill all fraking in our county. It's so interesting to see so many No on P signs and bumper stickers and commercials—I know, paid for by oil money, yeah...yeah... yeah...

But what they refuse to educate the south county folks on is the fact that the University of Santa Barbara and the County Court House and Government Centers were all paid for with oil revenues.

What we do up here in the rural north county is use high pressure steam to extract thick, heavy oil from deep in the ground. Sometimes, the stuff that comes out with the oil, is cleaned up and shot back down deep into the earth too.

So... to get to my point. North county is solid on No on P, while south county is Yes on P. It's crazy. But it is very important.

Our county is very rich in oil. It'll be interesting to see what happens on this one.

If I didn't see Iowa under your avatar, I'd say you lived here.

Students kept asking me all day long...

"Are you going to vote, Mr. Mo?"

"Yes. I'm your history teacher. If I don't vote I go straight to hell" [biggrin]

Love it. My students actually watched me fill out my ballot.

They couldn't see it of course, but they knew what I was doing.

Question: Mr C, are you a Republican or a Democrat?

Answer: That all depends on who's running and who's the incumbent.

Rumor has it Maine will get about a 60% turnout. Hot topic is a referendum about bear hunting. And I am quite opinionated about the governor race. As is my wife, who works for the state.

I feel it's our civic duty. I sometimes leave items blank if I'm not well informed and haven't come to an educated conclusion. For example I didn't vote on any of the bond questions or the local elections (city council, unopposed sheriff, etc). I only vote on what is poking me in the ribs.

Anyone who chooses not to vote.... when things aren't going your way, I don't want to hear your beak rattlin'.
