rct
I'm presuming everyone knows, outside of some thinking it was a music group[biggrin], that the "talk'n heads" I was referring to is the Dush-Bag (sp.) media types right? They are the ones that I really have no respect for with trying to create news and steering people to think the way the media wants them to, instead of just reporting NEWS. Aster The media, just like anything and everything else, has been and continues to be a jobs program supporting the private bank for the few owners and their boards and executives. rct
Aster1
And a platform to push their world views on the unfortunates that can "reckon" on their own IMHO. Really sad to even try to read the comics in the Newspaper. Oh well, you got to have something to put under the parakeets gravel in his cage! Californiaman
Funny - I thought this topic was about the band Talking Heads. Yeah me too. I almost broke out some Talking Heads. Either way, I figure it's time for a change, cause http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz1fl6u8ut0

Aster The "Media-fix" has been going on for a whole LOT of years...WE are doomed as far as continuing to be "the country" in which we were at one time, as the founders had envisioned us as being. That is,to mean, the greatest country, of all time. Liberalism results in cultural rot and decay.....as witnessed by the current "state of affairs"...Conservatism sure as hell ain't got us here! Between the two 'party's'....in consort with the agenda of the media, we, as a nation, have been hi-jacked. Hi-jacked at the expense of all of us, (tax-paying citizens) (we, the people) whom 'are' the government! Am I right? Am I wrong? Does anyone have a solution, or does everybody think...it ( country/system/govt) aint broke? Is everyone on Prozac, alcohol, pot, and other meds? Am I the only one with 'clarity' on this issue?....that's a scary thought!!! I am moving to Crankey Town!!!
surfpup
WE are doomed as far as continuing to be "the country" in which we were at one time, as the founders had envisioned us as being. I was hoping you were being ironic, but maybe not... It's true we can no longer be a country of gentlemen farmers who reap the profits of the labor of our slaves while denying voting rights to them - as well as to our women and the native Americans from whom we took the land. The past is, well, past. Our founding fathers (great men in many ways for sure) wrote the Constitution in a Philadelphia of roughly 50,000 people and no cars. They could barely imagine electricity not to mention the Internet. To believe that their way of life is remotely applicable now is not remotely logical. We ARE, however, a country who has extended voting rights to the formerly enslaved, those of native American descent, and women (in that order I believe). And that is certainly something. We have made great strides extending the rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" to ALL citizens and will, hopefully, continue to do so. The founding fathers did not envision this, but I for one think they would be pleased. As for the "talking heads" - turn them off. Research candidates on your own. The site "I Side With" - http://www.isidewith.com/ - is pretty good at matching you with a candidate (by which I do mean the lesser of the evils, unfortunately). As for the Talking Heads... not a bad band, but to me they always sounded a whole lot like Television (the band).

SmokeyGhost
Whoah. I think this thread about politics has just become political....naughty! naughty! Not voting is costly in this country as voting is mandatory. Yeah, true but I have noticed over the years, the informal vote (incorrectly completed or deliberately not completed) is very low overall (less than 2% of all votes cast) so at least the vast majority take some interest and exercise their democratic right. I'd vote even if it were not compulsory. Many, many people worked hard, and some died or went to jail, in order to afford us a voice in these matters. And I especially love it when the Electoral member is on a margin of less than 1%. Do they work their butt off for their constituents rather than the party in order to get re-elected. Lots of fun watching them sweat.
stein
Just remember, in a socialist/communist country, you can't leave. And you are lucky if you get anything like a "fair count" of the votes. So "I'm moving to Canada" might not work.

I say... more like 50%. Some opinions are right....some are wrong. Some are based on fact, some on ignorance and opinion. If you are happy with the 'status quo'...cool! (possibly you do not know anything better)! ....just a thought! For those of us who have lived through 'better times' and have come to realize that things are not as good now (thanks to Government/policy/idealogy change)....We can still hope and vote for a change....a 'correction' so to speak.
