kwalker201
I bought a mandolin yesterday at a local GC. Not knowing how to play it I practiced last night and today and attempted this cover. Gorilla sized hands makes playing this thing a challenge. I'm open to rocks being thrown at me. Recording was in GarageBand with just a beta 58 picking up mando and vocals on one track then followed with guitar on 2 track with the 58. https://soundcloud.com/misterk201/more-of-you
jedzep
Nicely done piece of 'Americana' mountain music. You got the fat fingers too? It didn't stop Leslie West ( or the late great Dan DelSanto ). What equipment did you use to record and load? http://frobbi.org/au...bros/index.html
Avery
I thought it sounded excellent, both your singing and playing. (although I know nothing about playing a mandolin, it seems like you're doing it just fine). Now how about some pedal steel?
MorrisrownSal
To think Keith picked up guitar in the last few years or so, and just picked up mandolin the last few days or so, and he sings like he does... lawdy. All sounds great. I'm with Avery, I want to hear you on pedal steel, and then on a Gretsch.
kwalker201
Thanks guys. While a pedal steel is on my bucket list. I can't wrap my head around 10 strings, 3-4 pedals and 4 knee bars. Mind boggling!! A Gretsch?
OldCowboy
Tell us a little about the mandolin! I can't claim gorilla-size hands, but definitely sasquatch-size, and have been making noise on the mandolin for a lot of years. Always interested to hear about what someone's picked for their first (or second or...) mandolin☺
kwalker201
It is a used Kentucky KM-150. I got it for 2 bills. Not knowing if I could play it well I just couldn't see investing a chunk of money at the moment. Picked it up Thursday night and with the ice storm going on this weekend it's been a good time to learn a song on it.

That's a pretty good choice for a starter mandolin, and evidence is that you're putting it to good use!

AnneS
Dang, Keith- you just started playing this thing?! You are crazy talented- lucky for us, and lucky the rest of the world, when it ever catches up. This is really nice; a real pleasure...
blindboygrunt
Busy weekend so hadn't much time to be listening properly Finally did and it's just terrific. Best thing posted in a while for me Been listening to a bit of hank Williams lately so I'm drawn to the lovely country melody on this song. Top class , not being polite for the sake of being polite. A round of applause from me boss Might dust mine down . No time lately and a bit of a lack of inspiration of late though. Is very depressing

kidblast
wow Kieth, that sounds great. I've tried to mess with a mando a few times, I've got small hands, I just couldn't quite get the knack... I'd like to try again tho, maybe this thread pushes me again. Nice job!
blindboygrunt
Are there different fretboard widths on mandolins ? Sals looked wider than mine
kwalker201
I better let someone with mando knowledge answer that one. I do know this one I bought is an 1 1/8 nut width. I don't know if that's standard or not.
