Whitefang
Big debate about this when I was in high school('68) It was weird times, gotta say. Whitefang
Sgt. Pepper
Yeah what a stupid thing. I started to watch a doc on it years ago. It was so bad after about 20 mins I was done. I saw Paul in 2015 and he was alive, unless it he was replaced by an Anamatronic Disney Robot. Edited February 7, 2022 by Sgt. Whitefang
Heh! There was a guy in one of my classes that was totally convinced it was all true! I hadn't seen him once out of school(graduation and all), and sometimes wondered WHO he thought recorded all that music in the '70's under the Paul McCartney moniker. Billy Shears? Well, since there's been tons of film footage of McCartney in concert, and the guy doing all that singing surely LOOKED like Paul, I suppose Apple Inc. must've shelled out a FORTUNE in cosmetic surgery fees to get Shears' look just right! RBSinTo
We here in Ontario knew it was nonsense very quickly after it first appeared. On the cover of the Sgt. Pepper album, Paul has a patch on his shoulder that supposedly read OP_ ( sorry, I forget what the last letter was claimed to have been). These three letters were supposed to be a Britsh medical shortform for something like "dead on arrival" or somesuch, therefore "proving" that Paul was dead. In reality, the patch was from the Ontario Provincial Police (known throughout the province as "the OPP"). He likely got it from an officer when they were escorted from the airport into the city on one of their visits. The whole business was just silly. RBSinTo Research reveals that during a visit to Toronto in 1964, four OPP arm badges were presented as a unique gift of appreciation by an OPP Corporal at Malton Airport to one of the three of The Beatles on Tues. Sept. 28. They were waiting to board their chartered plane bound for Montreal. It says one of the 3 Beatles. Must have been when Ringo was sick and the other guy (Jimmy Nichols) was drumming in his place or a type-O. Edited February 6, 2022 by Sgt. Mr. Natural
You mean Paul Mc DID'NT die?! He's still alive?! Actually I was in high school myself in the late '60s. I remember that whole hullaballoo. And I remember the stink after John was "quoted" out of context to the effect that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. jdgm
I've always felt the modern madness and....darkness....really started - or got going - when Lennon was murdered in 1980.

His career has been a little iffy since he disbanded Wings, but I’m sure Macca as of right now lives and still breaths. The Paul is dead BS may have been the original Fake News. When I was in high school, Russ Gibb ran a video class and had a mini production studio there. Cool class, easiest passing grade ever. https://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/brian-mccollum/2019/04/30/russ-gibb-detroit-grande-ballroom-paul-mccartney/3635010002/ I liked the Bbig Ssur - was a great guy and helped a lot of the “losers” make something of themselves.

Ah, yes. I remember when Uncle Russ, for a project and story for The Detroit Free Press posed as a Dearborn high student in the early '70's. Probably helped him get that teaching gig. And I spent a LOT of time at Uncle Russ' Grande Ballroom back in the "day". 22 hours ago, RBSinTo said: We here in Ontario knew it was nonsense very quickly after it first appeared. Paul wearing the dark suit and barefoot walking across Abbey Road, supposedly an indicator of his being dead as it's believed that decedents were buried without their shoes, and usually barefoot in their coffins. And all those clues in lyrics and bits of recordings. "Just silly" is putting it mildly. Whitefang

The barefoot thing is BS as when my mother passed I need to get clothes for her to be buried in. I specifically remember asking the mortician do I need to pick out a pair of shoes for her, and they told me "Yes". There are 3 sticks over the flowers that look like a guitar on the cover of Sgt. Pepper, and supposedly it means only 3 members were still alive. Paul is also out of step with the other 3 guys on Abbey Road and his ciggy is in his wrong hand, indicating it was not really Paul, but a righty. The poster included in The White Album, Paul in in a tub with his head half in the water supposedly indicating he drowned. The Walrus was Paul was the Beatles going along with it. A walrus is supposed to symbolize death in some cultures. That is all I got right now. If I l remember more I'll post 'em. Edited February 7, 2022 by Sgt. Whitefang
The singing might not be too difficult since dozens of Beatle tribute bands have a "Paul" that sound spot on, and the playing bass lefty need only the "clone" to mime the left handed playing while an off stage unseen bassist plays the actual notes. The fake Paul can actually be trained to make it look like he's actually playing left handed AND hitting all the right notes. It's been don on other instruments by actors. Like; You didn't think Richard Dreyfus was really playing this piano, did you? (go to 1:00 in) Whitefang
Sgt. Pepper
So you can't just get a guy to stand there and look like Paul and have the vocal and bass parts sent thought the PA, and mime to it like some bands do? The tricky part is finding a lookalike who can also play all the Beatles bass parts lefty AND sing like Paul. That IMO is nearly impossible. They actually have look alike's out there. Deb and I saw Beatle look alike's in Branson way back in concert. Of course, we were too far from the stage to be able to tell how much makeup they wore but they had the original look with the Beatle haircuts and all. They sounded just like them and played the same instruments. I guess, they played in front of the President at the time as they won an award for the best look alikes. Even John chewed on a piece of gum while he played. Deb told me that was his trait. But the show was like going back in time and seeing them for real.
