Deteriorating quality of Gibson case...! PIX

Hello

As some of you know, I just bought a brand new Gibson LP Custom.

It came with a Canadian made black case that doesn't fit the guitar

properly. The guitar sits inside crooked on an angle forcing the neck

out of the neck rest. I believe I deserve a case that hold and protect

the guitar properly especially a high end model like this. The brown

case came with my 1998 LP Classic is a far bette case than this new

case for LP Custom. I had expected a better case to be honest.

I just emailed Gibson Service for a replacement case. I'll update you

guys on the outcome.

Is this a common problem?

That my friend is not a Gibson case, (meaning TKL made for Gibson) if you bought this guitar new I think the dealer owes you an explanation.

The handle is not like that of a Gibson case, neither is the liner, it does not have the reptile pattern and the shape is all wrong as well.

My case for my Les Paul is holding up ok, and seems to be well made.

I notice a markable difference in mine and the one you have in the photos.

As example my handle is much better made. A really nice thick leather wrapped handle.

I also have a very nice silk like cloth that folds over the top of the guitar.

It lays very straight in the case with not a lot of excess room above the headstock.

Pretty much what I would call a perfect fit. I would suspect that since my Paul is a newer model, they have done some improvements since 98.

I still agree with you though that a case should up a little better than yours has.

Now their acoustic cases are a different matter. I just bought a new Hummingbird, and feel the quality

of this case is just horrid. It can't even come close to the Geib case that came with my Martin HD-28V.

The handle on the Gibby case is a poorly made plastic, "injection molded" type with inferior designed hardware

to attach it to the case. The lack of a combination lock on a guitar of this value is a joke.

Don't get me wrong it does have a hasp type latch for a little suitcase type padlock.

Now understand that if someone really wants to get into either case neither lock is going to stand in the way.

But considering how much these cases cost, Gibson could do much, much better on their acoustic case line. IMHO.

I have a 3 Year old custom shop with that case. My case has the same problem. It wont get any worse. Lots of them are like this. Sadly these cases are not sitiched round the seem but glued and that can tend to come away. Never seen a guitar tipping to one side in these cases.

Dont let it worry you!

Nice AXE!!

I stand corrected then...but I am very surprised, my low end Les Paul VM came with a very good quality case, fits like a glove. I also have an Epiphone Casino with a matching Epi case made by TKL as well and the quality of materials is not as good as the Gibson case but the fit is perfect.

That's a beautiful guitar, it deserves a better case...

If I received a custom with a case like that they would get it straght back. It doesnt seem the correct case for the guitar. My les paul case fits perfectly plus you get the shroud[ unless you removed it] and the gibson logo, sorry no contest my freind, and if it is the correct case then something needs to be said because its a bad fit. give em hell.

Yeah, looks like a Custom case to me. My 339 came in a case with a handle like that and the red velour looking interior.

I kinda like the handle better than the Gibson USA handles. See, on my USA's, the handle is a loop of leather like material with a flap of leather stapled around it. Looks nice, feels nice, but the metal rings that are riveted to the case that hold the loop that makes the handle tend to cut into the handle over time, chews it up some.

I had a shroud in the case that came with my 05 flying v, but none of my other gibby's have had the shroud (mostly newer).

Give'm Hell, I Shall!!!

This is just wrong to ship out guitars in a ill-fitting case like that!

Especially from the custom shop! Shame on them! :-&

I called them earlier today, and they tried to tell me to take it up

to the dealer who sold this. I told them that this is the case

Gibson shipped the guitar in, and Gibson is responsible. And then,

they said that the warranty doesn't cover the case. What a BS.

I sent them 2 emails with pictures so they can see it themselves.

If they continue with this crap, I'll have to speak to a manager

if they have one!

I have to say that I am very dissapointed by Gibson's customer care so far!

Will update you all on this as soon as I hear back from them.

Yes, that is the correct case for a new Custom. My CS silverburst came with the exact same case. The padding on my case is fine, fortunetely.

The real problem here is Canada. :-& Maybe somebody should go up there and tell those freakin' hosers to get out of their damn igloos and build a half decent guitar case!!

Btw T50, that's beautiful guitar.

You made me look at my cases.

My 1990's LP case brown w/pinkish shroud was made in Canada and is a nice case.

My '04 CS Goldtop is the same case as yours and is Made in Canada. My guitar fits nicely in it though.

Good Luck, that case doesn't look right.

Just checked my cases too... My 2007 LP Classic has a Canadian made case... The guitar sits well in the case but the head stock is almost touching the right side. My Robot Guitar has the special silver limited run case also made in Canada. The guitar sits Perfectly in the center. Looks like its a hit or miss type of thing. Gibson should definitely give their case making department's Quality Control a heads up...
