eBay's Selling Policy

Recommended Posts

I've been a member of eBay for 18 years, have thousands of transactions and 100% positive feedback.

Because I haven't sold anything in a while they are now holding my funds until the seller acknowledges receipt of an item I already shipped!  It's only a $70 item.

I contacted them and oh yes, that is our policy, we are following it.

Moral of the story: don't sell on eBay.

S-hit is crazy. I was on Reverb then got off, and then got on again. It used to be you were paid, then you shipped. Now its you are told the person's funds are available, you ship the the item, and when tracking is uploaded, that is when the funds come my way. I hate Flea Bay. Reverb is a pain since Etsy bought them. Brad1 posted Sweetwater is going to start a gear selling section. I hope it is better than Verbs, but they are a business and they will want their cut as well for the use of you putting your gear on their site. I would be fine if Reverb said every item is $5 to 10 list and they get the money if it sells, but I think they take 10%. It used to be 5. Sell a Noel Gallagher for 15k and you give Reverb $1500 of your dollars.

Reverb does the same thing where they hold funds until the item is delivered (for unverified sellers). I get that the point of this thread is about how you’ve already been a seller for so long but it’s just a security measure that makes ebay more secure. As a seller I feel very secure on eBay and very insecure on reverb based on my personal experience

They must have gotten wind of my secret crack cocaine habit and sexual peccadillos.

I knew when that Eye Witness News van pulled up right as the Escort Service Van unloaded  in my driveway it might come back to bite me.

So what if they were dressed as nuns, it's nobody's business.

Sweetwater started theirs a while back.. Not sure how it’s working, or about Fees etc.. Just that it’s been in existence for a while…

I’ve been selling on eBay since 1999 and I’ve never seen it so dead as this last year. Granted, I’m a bottom feeder and I’m happy to pick something out of the trash and sell it for $2.00, but lately even that has been hard to do. As to guitars, I’ve sold more on reverb lately. I’ve had guitars sit on eBay for a week and get 14 hits. I’ve been shopping for a pre cbs Jazzmaster for close to a year and there’s literally none on eBay, all newer stuff.

You have increased fees along with inflation where buying used today sucks. There are no deals out there. I see guitars that cost way more today than they ever were new out the box… it’s like used cars too… I haven’t bought or sold anything since COVID with respect to gear except one guitar - and that was an experience all the way to having the guitar show up on my porch with a huge gaping hole in the box and the “excellent” condition guitar was anything but - thanks Music Zoo (Poo) on Reverb. It was becoming a mess and now it is a hot one. Maybe other people have better experience, but all I see as a buyer is overpriced crap when I search for stuff I’m interested in. But the seller now having funds locked before confirmation BS is whack. You risk shoving your $2-$3k crap stuffed in a box for some low-rent to throw it - literally - on a truck across the globe and hope to get some coin from it all, but have to wait for the scammer to not receive it… great policy guys! The biggest losers are the sellers on both these corporate entities. Once you want something, remember you’re the small fry here. You get screwed a little more at a time each time. Perhaps what they call a grift…

The thing is too that people are probably raising their prices too because of the cost to list going up. We all loved eBay, then went to Reverb, now they are both “not fun” to list on. Compound this with how our world is today and you get what you see today. I choose to do what I said, not go to these sites as an avenue to sell and don’t pay for things that I really don’t need.

In the end, it just costs more to list something today. This is just my rant and my gripes with those avenues. And yes very ridiculous to do what they are doing to Steve imho.

Fees are at 7.5% instead of 10 like at Reverb.

Reverb used to be 3.5% IIRC.  Now it's 5%.  Of course, then there's the charge for using a credit card -- another 3+% AFAIK.  I haven't been selling anything lately, and really, I don't plan to.

I don't know why I thought it was 10. So Reverb is a tad cheaper. I just looked it is 5% on Verb.

Yeah, our government. Broke away from England cause we were sick of taxes, now look at us.

No, we weren’t sick of taxes. We were sick of being taxed without representation.
I couldn’t let that go. I have a teaching credential in History. 🙂

The straw that broke the camels back. Was when the US side decided  to implement a Import tax and shipping.

Shipping was pretty much double the amount  . from what the average sale amount.    The tax was added whether you bought a 5.00 item or a 1000.00  item.

most US sellers had no idea that this was added to there selling platform. It was automatically added.   It was the sellers option after the fact to opt out of the import /shipping set by the broker for ebay.

anything related to this shipping/import was sent to a certain broker hub. Then the pay for twice shipping to our door.    Just a big scam and money grab.

when we see a set of strings on ebay for 7.99. Check the import /shipping fees.   You could buy a box of strings up here and then some.
