Whitefang
Yesterday I finally got my copy of the Martin Scorsese Dylan documentary NO DIRECTION HOME. It could have reached further into his career and life, but I have no real complaints. A lot of interesting old photos and footage. Throughout the 50s through the 70s they were a behemoth in not just the recording industry but all the electronics industry in the UK. Pretty good documentary, well worth watching. Where did you watch it? Netflix, Amazon ect? And don't tell me you watched it at your house.
Sgt. Pepper
I started watching one yesterday about English Punk Rock. They talked to Bob. Geldof a lot and it was not to good. I did't finish it, and probably won't go back and watch it. It was on Amazon. Can't remember the name.

I did learn The Boomtown Rats were an Irish band. I didn't know that. Edited June 25, 2023 by Sgt. Pepper

The only one of us who can remember if he's seem it saw it the other day. Could be due to old-age senility, of course.

Sgt. Pepper
Watching a 7 or 8 part doc called 1971 - The Year That Music Changed Everything. Just finished episode 6. Each one is 45 mins long. Really good. It’s also about what was going on at that time in the world. Vietnam, Kent State, Angela Davis, Attica State Prison, the 3 big rock stars that died at 27, Manson, ect. I was 5. Edited July 2, 2023 by Sgt. Sgt. Pepper
I watched Leon Russell - A Poem Is A Naked Person last night. All I can say is WTF? Edited July 7, 2023 by Sgt. Pepper 1
SteveFord
If you want to watch a boa constrictor eat a young chicken or a guy eat a beer glass, you'll enjoy A Poem Is A Naked Person. Mad Dogs and Englishmen, The Concert For Bangladesh or The Homewood Sessions it ain't.
Sgt. Pepper
Also a guy catching scorpions in a pool with no water in it. George Jones sang a nice song in Leon’s recording studio. And what about the young girl singing Joy To The World at the wedding. Edited July 8, 2023 by Sgt. Pepper

Sgt. Pepper
I watched part of a doc about Wham! the other night, after the Leon train wreck. I knew nothing about them other than their music was awful, and that George Michael was a sexy sexy man. I hope I’m not gay now. I need to finish it. I hope the group doesn’t break up I won’t be able to take it. Edited July 9, 2023 by Sgt. Pepper 1
Sgt. Pepper
Damn Wham! did break up. What a shame all that catchy dance music and sexy outfits. The other guy had it made. Every girl wanted to sleep with them and George wanted the hotdog and not the bun, so that was just more chicks for the straight guy. Oh and thanks Wham! for that awful Xmas song. I saw the trailer for Fanny. I will watch it one day. Well Guns is a bit one sided in its presentation. That grade A super A-hole paid his entire band throughout the entire Covid no concerts allowed shut down.

The equivalent of the assumed amount of concerts they would have missed? Just they’re bills? But just ghost the guy who was your drummer and probably friend for decades.

surfpup
While not technically a documentary, I just watched CBGB from 2013. It's a fun bio-pic of Hilly and the rise of the CBGB venue. The soundtrack is excellent....

He told me tons of stories. He said Stiv Bators was the best as far as the whole package he saw there. He said The Ramones were clowns, and Blondie was just awful live. I started watching Fanny. Sgt. Pepper
Finished Fanny. It was good. Their music was meh. If Todd Rundgren produces your album an it doesn’t sell that may be your sign. He produced a lot of people and they had huge albums.
