cookieman15061
Every town has a band or musician thats had some national success and are considered music legends in that area if not around the country. Someone that showed us thats its possible to grab the brass ring even if its just for a brief time. Here in my little section of the woods it was these guys and they had a huge hit in 1970 with this one. The lead singer/ songwriter of that tune then became a success as a solo performer and had a top 40 song with this tune. and more recently we have The Clarks. They've been on Letterman twice and their CDs have sold decent nationally. Dub-T-123
Hmm. Well I know of a couple bands that went to my school that made it pretty big. The Adolecents went to my high school. If you don't know them they're a pretty influential and classic punk band. The Kottonmouth Kings also went to my school. I hate them but they're huge. They created the brand SRH (stoners reeking havoc). They're basically the kings of the bros. They are all about dirtbikes and smoking weed. And their music sucks. There are others but I forgot. We also gave you guys Richard Nixon. Oh yeah.

L5Larry
As GIANTRobot420 has mentioned St. Louis had spawned some pretty big acts and musicians with others such as David Sanborn, Miles Davis, Michael McDonald, to name a few more. But I think the question was about the hometown boys that had their 15 minutes. My favorite "local" St. Louis band in the seventies was a group called Mama's Pride. They got signed to ATCO Records division of Atlantic Records, recorded two albums in LA, and toured the country supporting groups such as the Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, Grinderswitch, and Gregg Allman At one time they were Gregg Allman's touring band. They would open the show with a set of Mama's pride tunes, and then Gregg Allman would walk out, sit down at the organ, and they instantly became the Gregg Allman Band. They still do a couple of weekends of "reunion" shows at a theater here, and still kick ***. Here's one of my favorite tunes of theirs: The other band of similar fate from here in the seventies was Pavlov's Dog. I wasn't a fan of that bad, but their story is very similar. They got signed to ABC Records, and were then sold to Clumbia Records. This was probably their biggest "hit". Most of the guys from both these bands are still here in St. Louis, and I have gotten to know a few of them over the years. In fact, I ran into the singer from Pavlov's Dog a couple of weeks ago at a music store. There were also some great bands around here during 70's and early 80's that never got "signed" (like my band), but kicked out some great music. rockstar232007
But I think the question was about the hometown boys that had their 15 minutes.I hear ya, but one thing I've noticed growing up around Detroit is, there's no such thing as "15 minutes". You are/were either famous or not, and if you weren't then nobody gave a crap.

Andre S
here are two songs by a local group called Orange Sky Can't get into the singer's vocals though. I think the guitarist plays a modded Wine Red LP Custom. and live These are by far not the most popular, but these guys are like...the only proper band like.....the others are just singers-like. MojoRedFoot
Hmmm.....well I was born close to where Tom Araya was born. He is from Viña del Mar, Chile and I am from Santiago. I currently live in Richmond where Lamb of God still resides. I grew up in Alexandria, VA/DC, home of national acts like Darkest Hour. Also I went to the same high school as Dave Grohl. I'm pretty sure he has a house in Alexandria (Old Town) as well. Those are the only music acts I can claim.
saturn
These guys used to rock the local clubs like Hammerjack's and Sandbar but are still going strong now. Here was their big video in 1989. They had a lot of better songs than this though.
rockstar232007
I so disagree with this statement I don't know where to begin. So I won't. What I meant was, aside from all the "big names" (Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, etc), if you weren't HUGE, you were practically nothing. The same thing still applies today, which is the reason the majority of the REAL "local heros" are still playing bar/club gigs, and couldn't get air play if their lives depended on it, which in some cases it does. You said a mouthful, brotha. Ann Arbor is a pathetic, shriveled up, not-even-a-shadow-of-what-it-used-to-be. There is virtually no remnant of any heritage of its onetime status as a center of rock and roll. Detroit, at least, still has a live music scene with a handful of cool venues. craigh
I grew up in Farmingdale, NY on Long Island. No one musically I know from my town except Al Weis who play on the '69 Mets. However the town south of me came Brian Setzer & Jerry Seinfeld. I did see Twisted Sister at a HS dance in '76 & they were bad then & after they had a hit didn't improve.
