What do you play unplugged?

If you're in a "low-noise" situation, and can't play an acoustic guitar or plug in an electric, what do you grab?

For instance, right now there are three little kids taking a nap, so plugging in isn't an option. Acoustic would also be too loud.

I've been using the Gibson SG. If I position it just right, it had a really nice feel to it.

I play my Casino unplugged all the time, but even that would be too loud at this point.

I was just thinking about this topic the other day. Since I got my SG Jr. , it has become the electric that feels the most comfortable resting on my legs sitting down. I noticed my g400 does not sit as comforatbly on my right leg as the Jr. does. The g400, besides being heavier, seems to always want to turn to the right for some reason. The Jr. stays in place. And the curvature of the body on the Jr. is not as deep as the g400 making it feel more comfortable also. And lastly, the Jr. seems to be a lot louder unplugged than the g400. So when I'm not reaching for the acoustic, it's now almost always my trusty SG Junior.

Following the advise of a friend, the first thing I did with each of my kids was to get them used to taking naps with the normal household noise. Result? They got their naps and I still was able to do what I wanted/needed to do. That included the playing the stereo (within reason of course).

Vox AC30 amPlug + headphones + <insert electric solidbody here>

...and often I use an Olympia Electric Papoose' date=' sith suitably modified electronics, because its only about 2 feet long and maybe 10" wide. Fits between the arms of my recliner perfectly! Because its designed to be tuned in "A", its just like playing high up on the neck of a regular guitar; and by adding an MP3 player to the Amplug, I've found a way that helps me practice alternate scales while I play along with Clapton in the correct key.

Pohatu, my brother complains all the time that he never has time to practice & when he does the rest of his family is asleep. I bought him a 'Classic Rock' amplug a couple of weeks ago & he really loves it. He mentioned that he's played more at home in the last two weeks than he has in the last 6 months.

I have one, too, & think they are cool as hell. Go for the 'Classic Rock' over the 'AC-30 (too clean, I've got one), or the 'Metal', IMO. They'll all blow your ears off in the headphones, and you can go anywhere in the house.

I've got to go on a 2-week business trip next month & those amplugs are certainly going with me.

I'll just grab one of my solid bodies and play through my Carr Mercury. It has a switch that alternates between 8, 2, 1/2 and 1/10th of a watt. I'll put it on the 1/10 setting and crank the volume all the way up! This gives it gobs of tone and keeps the dB's way down.

Casino or my acoustic... But I've been keeping my acoustic in DADGAD lately, so it's kind of become a "utility" guitar... Sometimes I use headphones out of the Vox, but I think I'm gonna hop on the bandwagon and get me an amplug like everybody else.. (I feel so... conformist, man..) I don't like being tethered to my amp at my head...
