I've got the sheri with p90s..

I switched to .010s a while back.. and frankly, it did make a tone difference, but I never noticed the

feel change much at all.. just as easy as .009s.

I haven't used .011's on a guitar in ages. sure I've got an acoustic and a classic..

but what I want to know is..

how's the bending? do they feel stiff? how long do you think it takes to get used to them if

they do feel stiffer? Do you feel it was problematic?

also.. what guage range do you guys find cool..

I liked the custom guage ernie balls I had on.. I think they were .011 to .050 or .052.

The P90s have plenty of bite on the high side.. so a little more oomph out of the lows might be really perfect.

Whatcha like on the low strings?

I'm too cheap to waste a set of strings just to find out I don't dig 'em. *L*

I tried a couple of sets of buckers.. even gibbos..

then I tried buck sized kent armstrong p90s.. hot output and never looked back.

some said.. well that's just a casino.. but it really is different sounding to me..

I'd venture to say I can sting as much as a tele with this thing.. all that maple..

still pumps plenty of air out the f holes for sure.

and I liked the p90s neck pup sound so much, I put on on my lp, too.

I think I've got two of them left.. chrome covered.. mine are cream on the sheri, chrome on the lp.

the chrome covered are just ever so slightly not as bright.. otherwise I can't hear a difference.

probably the metal vs the plastic cream covers.

I'm gonna try one in a tele, bridge position next.

probably with a strat in the neck.

I'm a real fan of both sheris and p90s!

When I received my Wildkat I was surprised how different the strings were. On some of the things I am working on right now I tend to bend the D and G strings a lot and it was noticable right away. It took a little more push to bend them. I usually bend with one finger, so I had to enlist the help of another finger. It took a little bit of time and I became use to them. Now when I go back to 10's I have to back off. My Washburn had 9's up until today and I felt I could bend those strings to the backside of the neck.

I also think they have better tone, but I only know 11's on the Wildkat, so I could be wrong.

11's (11-52) on the Gretsch's I own...all with Bigsby's. They stay in tune better, that way...have that wonderful "Gretsch" tone, and bending seems comparable, to my Gibby's, with 10's (10-46).

All my Gibby's have 10's, but I'm thinking about going back down to 9's (9-42), on the Strat and Telecaster.

Haven't decided, for sure, yet...but I may, since the longer Fender scale seems to make 10's feel a bit more

like 11's. The Gibson's will stay 10's. Love 'em, on those. The Epi's all have 10's, as well.

Yeah, Bigsbys crave .011s. That's what I strung my Chet Atkins (w/Bigsby). They won't stay in tune for me, any lighter.

I had .011s (wound 3rd) on my Epi Sheraton; now that I've changed over to an ES-335, I went for .012s. Fat is good. Skinny is bad (at least for archtop strings).

First time I ever played .11s was when I got my Casino a month ago. Some here recommended them (I play rhythm) and I must say they were right in their recommendation. Great, thicker tone for chord playing. Deep jazzy sound is there if I want it. Went with flatwound .11s (Chromes). Everyone who picked up my new guitar said they loved what the strings were adding to the guitar.

However, I have since gone back to .10s. The strings did feel stiff to me. Playing Lennon's lead work on "Get Back" was never a problem for me...until I tried it with the .11s. My fingers just were all over the place, slipping off the strings, not bending properly...real amateurish. Same with the intro lick to "Drive My Car." Never a mistake before, but with .11s...amateur city. I'm now using flat .10s.

I just got the studio done.. and like a fool I said it sounded brighter..

well.. sure.. I had tens and put on nines .. forgot all about that.

though I do think the bigs made a diff in the tone.

I'll wear these out and move to tens, then try elevens....

surprisingly goes back to tune though.. very nice.

thanks you guys, I have a pretty good idea of what the thing will be like. I'll probably stick with tens on this and try the elevens on the sheri.

My Fendertypes have 09s, and the Gibsontypes(incl. a PRS) 010s... except for a P90 LP which has 011s.

I like the tone especially for rhythms, but it's definitely not as easy doing hell-bends on that one. I'll probably change back to 010 or maybe try a light top, heavy bottom set like 010-52 or 010-56.

My string of choice are D'Addario Jazz Light Chrome FLATWOUNDS... (even on a Strat) Supposedly they are .011's but I think they are a tad lighter than that. I love them, no scraping sound or screech and they really nail that old 60's sound. They are a bit harder to bend but it's really not a big deal. Brand new they just really bark, they take all the overtones out and you get to hear the real note. (IMHO)

I love them on my Tele.... I never cared for .009's, way too light and I know I am making the guitar go out of tune by bending them when I press down on the fretboard. They really shine on a semi or full hollow body guitar. Inexpensive they are not, worth the 8.50.... oh yeah.

They take all the annoying high end out, Love 'em...

A Sheraton with P90's? That slipped under my radar' date=' but I like the idea (I am probably the world's biggest Sheraton fan). Did it come with P90's or did you swap out the humbuckers?[/quote']

According to my '63 Epi catalog, it looks like the Sheraton came with mini-buckers....

and that Epi "faux Bigsby" trem arm/tp with the "e" logo on the wooden part,

which was also used on the Casino with P-90s.

i used flat 12s on my sheraton and loved it. sure they were a little less wiggly and stuff, but they added a fatness, warmth and some snappiness, especially noticeable in the first few frets. and when you move from the heavy strings to the light strings, they are easier to work than ever.

On my LP I use Ernie Ball Power Slinkys but with a 44 & 56 on the B & Bottom E - all top strung, whilst on my Dot studio I use Power Slinkys all the way through. Bending isn't a problem on either although you do have to put that little bit more effort in but the tone is so much fatter and warmer than with lighter strings.

I've also currently got 11's on my strat style guitar but they don't really seem too happy and I plan to go back to 10's for that.

I'll definately try .011s on both of them.. I think you guys ae right and the bigs will like 'em.. and I know I got a nice tone push off the .010s

.. and I know I liked the heavier bottom strings from a custom set of .010s.

If I find I'm too decrepit to push them around.. I'll look into custom guages and see if I can compromise.

My faves so far were .010s with a slightly heavier bottom.

I've been using Gibson 11 Humbuckers on my Dot. Anything smaller would give me fret buzz which was very noticeable when playing unplugged, which I like to do when I just want to pick up the guitar. Lately my thinking has been that I might give 10s another try, maybe it will be nicer to my tendinitis.

I've run as high as 13s at one time or another in the past' date=' but as my hands got older I opt for comfort and playability. Besides the little bit of difference I heard didn't warant the bigger strings. LOL...lets face it TWANG we aren't getting any younger.

also.. what guage range do you guys find cool..

I have 10s on all but my Gretsch and acoustic...got 11s on my Gretsch, but it also has the smallest scale of all my electrics. Take it back, just picked up a new Strat yesterday and it comes with 9s. I'll change them sometime this week to 10s.

I'm too cheap to waste a set of strings just to find out I don't dig 'em. *L*

I'll buy the sets with a heavier bottom if I can find them. Otherwise just a plain old set of 10s does fine. I tried going the indivdual string for a while, but at the time I also had over 20 guitars and it just got to be PITA. I do buy a handfull of the higher end strings just incase I break them, but they are all the same gauge. I'm cheap too :-s .

I've been using 11's for a while on all of my guitars.

I play my SG Custom more than any of them.

I picked up my Strat the other day

and the 11's on it seemed really stiff.

Could it be a 'Fender' thing?

Yes..and no as far as it JUST being a Fender thing. Big difference in scales between your SG and a Strat...24-3/4 VS. 25- 1/2.

The difference to your hand will be that weak feeling and maybe a couple cramps if you bend a LOT, as if you hadn't played your acoustic for a month or two and then played it for several hours. Lasts maybe a couple days. No biggee. Similar to learning a bunch of new barre chords all at once. Note: Every time I've gone up a string size for a period of time, I find I am much more accurate and faster if I go back to the smaller size. I think some guitars like big fat strings, and other guitars don't.

I like my guitars to fight back a little! 10's and up is all I use with a heavy bottom sets being my fav on a number of guitars. With a Gibson scale and low action 9's feel way too lite for my tastes.........the tone is just so much better with heavier strings as well. I like my strats with the action a bit higher than most as well......it's a personal taste thing...but no lite strings there either for me.
