Computer Tyranny

freak show

Recommended Posts

I'm probably asking this question in the wrong place, but what the heck?!? I'll ask it anyway... [biggrin]

The question is:

What are some great things a person can do, which don't require a computer?

I can think of many, but I'll only mention the most obvious: playing guitar.

I'm kinda kidding but do you really have to ask? Shut the thing down and go outside. Ideas will come to you. Do you have a workshop of some kind? Go to a library, a museum.

There is really no reason to be bored for any extended period. Life is what you make of it.

I agree with you completely. Actually, I got the idea for this topic from Fred's depression-thread.

Someone had said Fred should shut off the computer and live life. I agreed with this advice, but another member implied that computers were everywhere today and couldn't be avoided.

Read a damn book.

Go for a hike.

Play some pickup basketball (or other casual sport of your choice.)

Learn a new skill which doesn't involve computers.

Take a nap.

Go to a museum.

Go fishing.

Go to a restaurant you've never been to before.

Do the things that people in this world did before the invention of computers.

It's interesting, but I've actually decided that I'm going to bring my laptop home over spring break--and leave it there when I come back to school. There are computers in the library if I need to use one, and there's no shortage of things I can do without my computer.

I was going to say "touching myself", but it dawned on me I use a computer for that too. [blush]

Time to break out your vintage Penthouse issue with Madonna.

Actually, I have the issue of Playboy with Belinda Carlisle. Air brushed like you would not believe, but still very sexy.

Off topic, but I always wondered why people prefer celebrities to the beautiful girls that appear in mens mags.

Is Madonna more attractive than this?

1. Sorry, humor does not always translate on the internet.

2. Nude celebrities is a curiosity thing.

For most people, the internet will be the closest you can get to her [biggrin]

Especially if you have a restraining order [crying]

All kidding aside, I can see a time when you'll use some sort of computerized application 'stedda stomp boxes for most electric guitar stuff. But that's not necessarily connected to the internet.

The Web itself can be intoxicating, and not just for porn for young guys. Seriously, I was doing some hunting for historic stuff the other night at 10 and about dropped my storebought teeth when I really looked up and discovered it was past 1 a.m.

I used computers for roughly 20 years before being connected to the web. It's that latter that can be so absorbing, not the computer itself. Heck, you can spend a cupla hours just looking for something different in terms of strings for a guitar, reviews, specs...

An acoustic guitar, of course, need not have a computer, but even there it's easier to haul a song list, etc., etc., on a netbook or pad than paper.
